ANOTHER NEW GROUP IN TOWN?

Got an e-mail today about a meeting sometime in August at Lake Erie College.
"PAINESVILLE ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE"
Does anyone out there know who these people are and what they want to do with the old school buildings? I for one thought we crossed that bridge, guess not.

ANDY FLOCKS TOWN MEETING THURSDAY

With all the thing going on I almost forgot to mention Andy Flocks Town Meeting at his home this Thursday at 7:00p.m. The address is 871 Hine Ave. just about 200 yards from N St.Clair St. Please bring your own lawn chair.
With as many of you commenting on this site. I want you all to be aware of what Andy does during these meeting. You can ask questions about services, problems, general questions about Painesville. If Andy does not know the answer he writes them down and sends a copy of the questions to the City Manager to get the correct answer. No names or addresses are used just the question. When he gets the reply from the manager he will read the answer at the next town meeting, or if you ask he will call you with the answer. With as many hits on this blog. site thre has to be alot of questions that need to be asked. This is a very informal setting to get to meet other people in town that you can share ideas with. Hope to see you Thursday at 7. Meetings are always held on the last Thurday of the month.

BIAS IN PAINESVILLE?

Recently it came to the attention of a Ward councilman that a store on E. Washington St.started an outdoor restaurant called "SENIOR". Also putting up a canopy, and a large number of tables and chairs in away that it blocked most of the sidewalk where people couldn't get by. A resident ask an employee if they had permission to block the sidewalk from anyone? The employee stated that the owner had permission from the city. The employee and resident had a little verbal argument and the employee called the police. The police came and explained that the resident didn't handle the situation properly and should have called City Hall. Being Saturday he then called a councilman. After being told there was no violation, and after a final question from the resident, the Police Officer stated "My Hands Are Tied".
The owner of the store feels he is being singled out because his clientele is mostly Hispanic. He is not.
My question is would we let an Italian, German, Polish, Irish, French restaurant block a city sidewalk? I don't think two or three tables with a couple of chairs would have been seen as a problem, but this seemed over the top. What do you think?

SHOULD PAINESVILLE HAVE A MAYOR?

Should we change the form of government in Painesville to a Mayors form of government. I have heard pros and cons on this issue and just want to know your thoughts. Please do not view this as a slap at the City Manager, she could run for Mayor with her experience.
Right now 4 council people can hold all the cards on decisions on running the city. Just remember this would not be an easy undertaking and you woulds need more than 5 or 6 people to do it. I am just tired of the City of Painesville motto being "Our Hands are Tied" city. We could at least one public figure to go to, instead of the run around we seem to get now.

QUESTION '67 AND '68

The Harvey High post really brought some strong comments out. The one that caught my eye was the one addressing "Political Correctness" Guess what form of government and country was the first to use that term? and why?..................................
Congressman Steve LaTourette has secured grant monies for 2008 [$75,000] to be used by ther Painesville Police Department to investigate suspected gang activity and other crimes and prevent such activities from becoming a problem in the city. Now call city hall or your Councilman and ask what the money was used for? You will be surprised with the answer and you than should make another call to Congressman LaTourette's office. hint; H.G.T.C.Y................................................
Someone keeps leaving posts that I delete due to language, this person can not write a sentence without refering to the Kings consent, I think you all get the drift. Well he claims that the Grassroots Rally Team had there meetings at Jalapeno Loco in Mentor up until the time the restaurant got raided by "ICE" someone in the group please tell me this person is nuts? ............................................
A resident in the city has suggested that Community Officers, Detectives use Hybreed vechile instead of a standard police car. Somehow watching a Detective arrive in a Toyota Presis {or whatever you call them] take some of the importance away. "Just the facts Mame, do you mind if we plug in until we leave?" The chuckles on the radio this is "Detective ----- in pursuit of a ...." I guess we all have to do our part to save gas, right "Blue Eyes.".................................................

"STORM CELL"

I forgot to mention that before the council meeting ended last night,[very late] Three well known local citizens went in front of council to transfer a liquor license for the restaurant in the New Market Building. The plan is for a sports bar with a Lake Erie Storm theme. Great idea and plan to open around August 23, just in time for the football season. We need to support people like this to bring business downtown.

HARVEY HIGH SCHOOL

More good news. I've been e-mailed that starting this school year, student will start their morning with "THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE" Great news its been over 20 years.

WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN TO.......

What will become of Harvey High School? Steele Mansion? Bitzer Furniture Store? Colony Lumber? Hotel Downtown? Any ideas? The list seems to grow daily.

PAINESVILLE "4-H" CITY ??

Went to council meeting tonight, didn't get out until 10:45p.m. listened to residents and came to a strange conclusion. We might be a 4-H city.

1. HOPELESS
2. HELPLESS
3. HOMELESS
4. HOSTILE
Watched it all unfold tonight and City Council better start listening to each other and residents or it will only get worse. Council passed the Resolution for WRRSP funding and maybe the people down at Millstone/Gristmill can go on with their lives. I hope in the future they have enough insurance, and all lawsuits go away.
A resident on Grand River Ave. called and explained what happened with the petition on there street. It just seemed like poor judgement for a councilman and policeman to go down there the day after a petition goes out. Their reason was to view an abandoned house that been like that for two years whats the odds? Really don't these councilpeople ever talk to each other? The trees at the end of the street will save them more damage then a new storm sewer, just my opinion. Some left happy some not. Someone in the future should suggest that using WRRSP, NOCCA, ECT. spell it out so people now what the letters stand for. OH! and the place was packed.

CHILL OUT WEEKEND IN THE 'VILLE

This weekend is "PARTY IN THE PARK" this event is not put on by the City, but by Painesville City Improvement Corporation They have changed there name recently so it might be "Area" now. This group of people fund so many great things in town I can't start to name them all. Three days of free music, good food and beverages at reasonable prices. See neighbors ,old classmates and possibly meet some new friends. A community gathering enjoy and have fun. If you know or see someone from "P.C.I.C" let them know how much you enjoyed the party.

I'VE BEEN GETTING ALOT OF RUMORS IN THE FORM OF NEWS ITEMS LATELY. HERE ARE A FEW, IF ANYONE KNOWS THE ANSWERS OR LETS SOMEONE KNOW WHO DOES PLEASE LETS CLEAR UP A FEW OF THESE... WE ALREADY KNOW I'AM AN ARROGANT,IDIOT SO LETS JUST CUT TO THE CHASE.
1. TWO PAINESVILLE POLICEMEN WERE SUSPENDED FOR TWO DAYS WITHOUT PAY BY THE CITY MANAGER BECAUSE OF THE WAY AN HISPANIC WAS TREATED?
2. THE REASON THE HOSPITAL, AND PAINESVILLE SCHOOL CAMPUS WERE NOT BUILT AT HEISLEY PARK, DIAMOND CENTER, WAS THAT IT WAS USED FOR UNDERGROUND PROPANE STORAGE. WHEN LAKE UNDERGROUND LEFT THAT LAND OVER A MILLION POUNDS OF PROPANE CAME UP SHORT IS IT BAD ACCOUNTING,OR LEFT IN A CAVERN DOWN THERE ECT.?

STIMULUS/ SCAMS

If you know of any senior citizens who may be due a stimulus check from the feds. make them aware of calling city hall and getting advise on how to receive a check.
An article in Wednsday News-Herald advised Painesville residents that the Fire Dept. was not calling collecting for M.S. or any other charity. Beware of anyone you give money to over the phone. The Fire Dept. has a wonderful smoke detector program that all residents should be made aware of.
On another note... this Blog. has been setup to share and promote ideas about the city. Sometimes someones toes might get stepped on but that comes with the turf. Disagreement is expected but no one is just an "idiot" If a person has a different view, thats all it is. The arrogancy on this site surprises me ie; The Police knew..You don't have to be told.. ect. Its not important to know how someone dress's to take out the garbage! Mr. Rellik God Bless you.. Rellik spelled backwars is killer.
Everyone post new ideas to discuss

Wondering

Painesville City Schools Board Meeting:
Monday July 14,2008 next school board meeting. Wonder what the meeting will be about? As I sat in on the June meeting I kept hearing about budget shortfalls, caused my the State of Ohio, property taxes , ect. Heard about rising costs [fuel] and close to a million dollars in lost revenue.
Wonder if this is the right time to ask for a levy in November? Everyone will be checking out the new building when would be a better time to ask? The only reason I bring this up it seemed the groundwork was being laid at the last meeting. How do you feel about this, any thoughts?

RAMBLINS' II

WOW! I hit a nerve. Great comments, and I'm glad its not just me. Did Tony step on someones toes? He's more good free P.R. then just about anyone in town.
"Selective" seems to be the way we view a lot of thing that go on in town. Here's one, major construction on a home at 597 N.St.Clair St. wonder if they have a building permit? Some nationalitys don't seem to concered about documentation. Maybe someone will ask. I see this all the time. I was told you need a permit to put in a new water heater is this true?
One thing else Painesville residents should wonder about. We were told when Lake East closed there would be an Emergency Room left in town. Well now it's an Urgent Care Facilty. {Nowhere near the same thing] Wonder where it will be downtown? The old Rite-Aid building? Somewhere else near the square? Hey everyone knows downtown is dead, who said it had to be downtown? Theres a vacant lot across from Kurly Cone why not put it there? Just a thought I heard.

RAMBLINS'

Did you ever notice the people in line at the store with W.I.C. or with Food Stamp cards are better dressed than you? Get into nicer vehicles than you? One woman stated to her friend she was on her way to get a pedicure. most don't speak English.
People think I want to hear their chose in music 3 blocks away? They get out of their cars with it shut off, but the sound system stays on.Then go into a store where they can't hear it, than look at me like I'm nuts for asking them why they left it on.
Where did all the butterflies go? When I was a kid they were everywhere now zilch.
People that use the emergency room like a doctor's office. Then tell the nurse "no compranday english". Well Pedro how did you sign to get that Ford F150 with the custom rims?
People with Harleys that want me to know at 1:00a.m. they don't have to go to work in the morning.
You walk into a store and you realize your the only one that speaks english? Why are they pointing at me.
Someone on Section 8 can't afford rent, but have $150.00 Nikes?
AND will someone please tell these boys to buy the right size pants.and PULL THEM UP!

GRISTMILL MILLSTONE

I have removed the blog. comment about the dispute about the amount of insurance the Condo Association had. I cannot find any proof that this was done. A city resident also commented that the illegal immigration problem was a federal problem and was the main reason that city officals did not pursue the problem. Well he also stated natural disasters were a federal problem thats why we had departments like FEMA. No city should be involved in the people recouping their loses at the expense or cost to the city. Its seems we can pick and choose what we get involved with.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FUN AND SAFE 4TH OF JULY. ENJOY THE LONG WEEKEND. GAS PRICES THE WAY THEY ARE MARDI GRAS SEEMS TO BE IN MY PLANS. WHATS EVERYONE ELSE DOING?
