"MAN IN THE MIRROR" michael jackson

No message could have been clearer
Take a look at yourself and make a change

Well like most of you I received my Painesville magazine in the mail today.
It's really strange how a community puts a newsletter like this out? That or the editor has never been to Painesville?
Al I ever hear is diversity, diversity, diversity yet in this magazine there seems to be a lack of it.
If you didn't know any better you would think you were living in Leave it to Beaver's fictional Mayfield?  Our town appears to be lily white?
No Hispanic's mentioned as well as only a small side shot of an African-American sitting at the Fish Bar. And yes an ad for the Y.M.C.A. featuring a Black family.
Opening the front page all White? Introducing 'new' families both White. Who do you people think your kidding?
I believe this is all done on purpose as to not show Painesville's diverse community, and that raises the question why? Just maybe someone's ashamed?
Lets show our diversity innovative ideas like Burlap fences to name one, also explain to resident's and other's what you have managed to eliminate this year such as the parking garage.
What's it's been seven years looking for a developers to High Pointe's that was I believe a 'shovel ready' project?
Least not forget the Urgent Care Center we were promised.
Maybe a story on city worker's dealing with using a port-a-potty in weather like this? After this much time they should do their business up at City Hall that might speed-up the process?
Well at least AMP-OHIO will be happy with a 4.5 million dollar contract for a solution without a problem.
Let's make that 'temporary' surcharge on our water bill permanent. As if no one seen that coming.
Grocery Store, please.

As we move into a New Year with a new budget and more new promises good luck to all my fellow residents.
Just keep reading the magazine.

"DOWNTOWN" petula clark 2.0

Don't hang around and let your troubles surround you

 Instead you can just leave?

Fine we added a Bait Shop, Bike Shop and probably a Brewery to our downtown have we lost anything along the way?

It has come to my attention that our Congressman David Joyce, happens to be closing his Painesville office in the New Market Mall and moving west to Mentor?

Now don't get me wrong but the Bait, and Bike shop's are nice but honestly Painesville loses some esteem when you lose a congressional office? But wait We lost a hospital, and a county health department that weren't even on a public transportation route why not a congressman's office?

Did city administrators and/or, Downtown Painesville Organization know this was happening? Did either ever have contact with the congressman's office? Ever? Just maybe this move could have been avoided/prevented?

Painesville is the county seat and therefore it makes sense his office would be located close by. Were all the demonstration's in Veterans Park the reason for the move? Rent prices? Will we ever know?

Just another cavity to fill in our illustrious Downtown. Maybe we should spend MORE money on those two blocks?  Quick Monica more flower pots! Police on horseback or Bicycles!

"I KNOW YOUR OUT THERE SOMEWHERE" moody blues

I know I'll find you somehow
Somehow, Somehow

I received a different request from an old Harvey Class of 68' classmate, our foreign exchange student Ingebjorg Birkeland from Norway.

She badly wants to reconnect with Riversides Class of 68' foreign exchange student, Gloriela White.  Her American family was Mr. and Mrs. Paul Anderson on Middleton Dr.  her American sister's name was Pat.

Anyone know anyway to contact Gloriela please email;

ingebjorg.birkeland@gmail.com

It would be a nice Christmas Gift to get these two reconnected.

Senior Center and Senior Housing coming to the 900 block of Mentor Ave.?

On agenda for Planning Commission December 14, 2017

"DOWNTOWN" petula clark

Just listen to the music of the traffic  in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty

How can you Lose?

Look I'm actually happy that these new businesses have found a home in Painesville.
the bait shop makes sense due to the river man fishing stuff is expensive! The bike shop good idea more and more adults are biking for transportation and exercise.

A Brewery in the old Dollar Bank (Citizen Saving) would be a big lift for making Painesville a destination. It must overcome building repair and breweries aren't cheap. Parking issues must be resolved sorry  people don't like to walk much. Also competition like the new Brim in Willoughby are chasing the same clientele.

Yes these businesses are destinations like Silvestro's Depot, Bistro 70, Steele Mansion and Rider's Inn. None of these establishments rely solely  on Painesville resident's.

Painesville resident's are looking for that place to buy a shirt, socks, pair of shoes and pants. Along with REASONABLY priced groceries and fresh vegetables. v(Are you listening Harry?)

Sadly I don't know if our Downtown can survive as a "destination only" location with so many everyday items ignored.

Passed the building on N. State that V.D. want's to make a Hispanic kitchen. Seems it appears the idea is to fill the underground tanks with concrete? No idea. But since it's presently government owned building expect anything!

Burlap fencing? Got to love it!

"TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT" johnny paycheck

Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more

Well it appears Painesville Superintendent of schools has landed as the new CEO of the Fine Arts Association effective January 29,2018. I've been told with a smile these two were meant for each other? I'd heard the rumors, now PCLS can again search for a new superintendent.
Fine Arts Association can be thankful for the serendipitous timing of his retirement. Let's hope he never has a hissy fit at one of their meetings.

Let's just hope the Painesville School Board doesn't decide to take resident's on another 'dog and pony' show where they ask for input and then ignore it from resident's?

The secret is presently the best possible choice is sitting in an office at Harvey High School, but as we realize lot's of politics at play. Unless this Board can secure a candidate from say Texas, New Mexico or Arizona who knows all the ins and outs of educating Hispanic children in an American environment we should stick with the known quality we have. Our system is to far behind for more on the job training.

You have to wonder how much a teacher who fears an administration has a bearing on the quality of teaching they do? PCLS has become keep quite and just collect your check.

Since the last election has shown, this is a good reason to elect the best people who want to serve the community in the capacity of a Board of Education. Trust me their not in it for the money!

AS most know by now Jim Nabors, Private Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. has past away.
You have to hand it to Gomer a Marine who served in the Corps. from September 1964 thru May 1969 Gomer and his platoon lead by Sgt. Carter seemed somehow never to  deployed to Nam or anywhere else for that matter, Now that's fiction! Ask any Marine
