MONDAY COUNCIL MEETING 12/01/08

Interesting Council Meeting Monday. Some very interesting question about the budget and what the city is doing with the economy the way it is. I hope all councilpeople and residents ask afew questions and council just not "rubberstamp" it.
If you borrow 9 million dollars is it an asset or liability? A note is a loan and so is a bond that you issue.

"HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT THANKSGIVING"

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day filled with great food and lousy football. Who picks these games?
The worse thing about Thanksgiving is "Black Friday". Whats wrong with us? People being trampled to death, pregnant woman losing her baby over what. to stand in line for hours to get a good deal on a playstation?
I personally rather view the lights in Veterans Park than be apart of that.{Thanks Painesville} What part of Christmas does "Black Friday" supposed to play? Sometimes I feel there's someone in these companies telling other's "Wonder how much commotion this will cause."
No matter what the numbers are at the end of the day newspapers and television reporters will tell you the day beat expectations causing you to go out Saturday to spend more.

"MORE ENTREPRENEUR'S"

Along with some of the new businesses in town Wine Store, Storm Cellar, I came across another one down on Hoyt St. JT. must have missed this one because there's nothing to eat at this location.
PAINESVILLE PELLET&STOVE LLC.
546 Hoyt St.#9
They sell wood stoves that burn sawdust pellets to cut down on energy costs this winter. They sell pellets at a very reasonable price and you don't have to buy a semi load to get a good price. Also check into there fireplace inserts to start putting it to work.
See Laura or one of her associates for more information.

Please feel free to inform this site of any new business stating in town.

"SPECIAL COMMENT".."CLARIFICATION"

I received this comment earlier week and I was just going to post it at the bottom of the "Clarification" Post. This person seems to get it.

This is the first time I have commented on this site, I have been reading it off and on for about 4 months. I could never understand all the commotion about illegal immigration, what are we going to chase these people out? How many are there in town?50 to 100? Well this fall my oldest daughter started school at one of the new elementaty schools in Painesville, I learned in a hurry all these children cannot be legal can they? The Black and White children of Painesville are being short changed by all the extra attention and resources given to the Hispanic children, I was informed the schools by Federal Law can not even ask. I have been told over and over this is a Federal problem. Than please tell me why it is an obligation of the local schools to finance the education of all these children? Don't misunderstand me but all thes children should be taught English not some crazy bilingual study like English as a second language? Why would you teach first graders both languages? Is this part of the State of Ohio Education curriculum? I checked its not, if I wanted my daughter to learn another language I would expect it to be offered but not just taught. Whatever you do do not question anyone at the school they look at you as if your crazy. Perry, Madison, Mentor no one else teachers in this manner go and learn. Am I a racist because I want my daughter to be taught in a conventional way?
To all you local politians and so called leaders of the community start doing your jobs and enforce the law. I can only wonder what all this is costing my heathcare insuance, but thats a Federal problem also.
No one in town is a racist over this but alot of people are taking advantage of the good people in town.

"CLEVELAND BROWNS"

Just to change the subject here, the 08' Browns big disapointment or did you see it coming ,expecting it? I haven't been a Browns fan since the Byner fumble in Denver long ago {watch the tape and it was more Webster Slaughters fault than Byners} Red Right 88, the Drive , almost frezzeing to death at a Jets playoff game I learned over 20 years ago this team will break your heart every time. Yesterday a friend told me "Ang I'm spending almost $300.00 to be aggravated Every Sunday by this bunch." Are we cursed? The whole team left one time and they win a Super Bowl two years later.Lets hate the coach and what hes got what 5 rings now. Are the Cleveland Browns cursed?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, {Even the Vegans}

"CLARIFICATION PLEASE"

In the Veterans Day post we got off track discussing Racists, and Bigots. What seems to have brought this on was someone comment on the "Wizard of Ozdriguez" I posted the comment for I took it as sarcasm, but a few out there saw it differently. I asked for a discription of what they thought being a racist and /or bigot was to them. The answer's to me seemed abit weak.
Then I asked what do you call someone who comes to this Country illegaly, and the people that knowingly assist and harbor them? Theives, Felons, ect. I could not get anyone to touch this part of ther question? WHY?

"MR. SALTY"

Well Painesville what's your take on Painesville's new street salting program? I wished I would have had my camera around 7:00a.m. at Newell and Jackson. I wonder what the rest of you thought about the streets this morning? We went from piles of salt to no salt.

"11/17/08 PAINESVILLE COUNCIL MEETING"

Pretty informative meeting, City Manager presented the 09" budget. I liked the way it was explained because the layman could understand it. I wonder how the local economy will treat this budget? Does anyone have an idea what the next year will bring. Andy Flock brought up some very interesting comments about saftey forces overtime. Hal Werner would like to make English the official language of Painesville. Watch channel 12 at 7:30p.m. to view the whole meeting

"DOWN ON THE BUYUE"

This week a city resident informed me of his mothers property on E. Prospect St. After a normal rain her and other neighbors backyards turn into swampland. Why? A new development by the name of Asper Commons. One home is near completion with another 11 homes to follow. This is what happens when you let a developer change code, lot size and trys to put 12 houses in a space for maybe 7. Of course if an employee on your company LCDC also sit on Painesville City Council chances are only 2 or 3 council people will vote against this development, hold on! Here comes the greed , sorry I mean houses. Also along with letting this happen other builders will say Painesville, you have set a presidence here we want to do the same thing in another part of the city. Now if you feel I am "craping" on the city about this, after it rains go and look. Then post a comment that if this was your backyard you would be fine with it. While your at it try to figure out where the sidewalks will go?

"VETERANS DAY 2008"

Veterans Day was yesterday. What did we do yesterday in Painesville to honor ,remember or educate ourselves and the younger residents of our community? Did we do anything at all? Everyone talks about good public relations in a community. You have to feel alot of Mentor residents felt good about Mentor after the story on the front page of the News-Herald. I'm not suggesting you do this for P.R. purposes but it would have been nice to introduce a few vets. to the younger members of town. Meet a WWII, Korean, Viet Nam, even some from the last Desert Storm, and Iraq War. at a Jr. High assembly it is part of our "Heritage".Well so is a American Flag in every classroom and were still waiting for them. "The Pledge Of Allegiance" Everday at all grade levels. Please don't tell be it will become redundant, is telling your wife or children you love them everyday redundant? A good motto to live by "If you don't know where you have been, you have no clue where your going."

"SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT"

not looking to good for the citys budget.........

In the interview, Obama talks about a cap-and-trade system in which polluters will have to buy credits to offset their emissions, which he says will encourage energy producers to pursue cleaner sources.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted," Obama said in the interview.

In the audio file of the interview, he also takes on environmentalists who would like to eliminate coal as an energy source altogether.

"The only thing that I've said with respect to coal -- I haven't been some coal booster," Obama said. "What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as an ideological matter, as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it."

Obama's campaign says the tape has been "wildly edited." In a statement, the campaign argued that, "The point Obama is making is that we need to transition from coal-burning power plants built with old technology to plants built with advanced technologies -- and that is exactly the action that will be incentivized under a cap-and-trade program."

"TO ALL OSU FOOTBALL FANS"

A few weeks back Penn State handed the Buckeyes their first Big Ten loss of the year. A Conference Championship seem to be a far off thougth on that night. Yesterday in Iowa, Buckeye fans got a little bit to smile about. The Iowa Hawkeyes beat Penn State on a last second field goal. Why should we smile a little? The Iowa quarterback has a strong Lake County, Painesville ties. If you lived in Painesville for any amount of time you remember the Stanzi Family. Their Grandmother living on Sandford St. John Stanzi Upholstery Business on State St. Some of us went to school with some of them, John,Connie,Rick. The pleasure I got telling my brother-in-law in PA. Yeah that quarterbacks from around here. Priceless! On a final note Grandma Stanzi made the best Pizza I've ever tasted in my life.

"STAKEHOLDERS MEETING"

Attended Stakeholders Meeting at Painesville Senior Center Wednesday night for a presentation by City Architecture on a plan for Downtown Painesvilles future.
I was expecting "WOW" but instead it seemed those in Attendence were more "HUM". The project divides the downtown into 5 District. You can view these site plans on the Painesville City web site. It seems to be a "doable" plan. 350 homesites, 90,000 ft. of commercial buildings. 100,000 ft of new office space, All this between Erie St. on the north, High St. on the south, and the River to the east, Harvey High to the west. Who will make this investment? What will the hospital leaving do to people coming to downtown? Many more questions than answers. What do you think?

QUESTIONS,QUESTIONS,AND SOMEMORE!

Looked at a copy of the 09' Painesville budget, Wow! Maybe we need a WOW person like Lake Erie College has? Almost 300 pages and looks like an increase of over $5 million dollars. Every councilperson should have at least 20 questions to ask before anyone even thinks about voting on this budget. Hard times ahead, not according to this administration. Some comments that have been posted needs an answer from City Hall. An example why if we do not own Lake East Hospital why are we looking for a Grant to demolish the building? From who? Where are the Hospital administration and County Commissioners on this? Remember the building belongs to them. I can see the city on "60 Minutes" explaining why we wanted a Grant or an "Ear Mark" to destroy a perfectly good hospital that didn't belong to us in the first place?
Another resident questioned will the stop signs on "Rita's Parkway" be removed after the election, and will the extra parking spaces be removed?
Someone else reminded me that Mentor Ave. in Painesville will not be made wider only repaved, and this change to 3-lanes will make it very hard to pull onto Mentor Ave.
If you haven't voted yet make sure you do Tuesday. JT. You coming to Council Meeting Monday night?
