"SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT"

not looking to good for the citys budget.........

In the interview, Obama talks about a cap-and-trade system in which polluters will have to buy credits to offset their emissions, which he says will encourage energy producers to pursue cleaner sources.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted," Obama said in the interview.

In the audio file of the interview, he also takes on environmentalists who would like to eliminate coal as an energy source altogether.

"The only thing that I've said with respect to coal -- I haven't been some coal booster," Obama said. "What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as an ideological matter, as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it."

Obama's campaign says the tape has been "wildly edited." In a statement, the campaign argued that, "The point Obama is making is that we need to transition from coal-burning power plants built with old technology to plants built with advanced technologies -- and that is exactly the action that will be incentivized under a cap-and-trade program."

also understand there will be significant gov't $$$ given for R&D in clean coal technology. As of yet there is no such animal and "clean coal". Areas targeted for such research will be W. Virginia, PA, and southeastern Ohio.

Hope AMP Ohio & city hall has their pen to paper and figuring out how this is going to save us money. I will never be convinced that producing power 400 miles away and getting up here is going to be cheap.

Who in the city voted to keep this albatross going? How can this deal with Amp Ohio be good for the city of Painesville and it's residents?

better get those hampsters moving at the power plant!

Wonder if the city will ever tell us who gave the go ahead to proceed, if the original plans and contracts were not met by AMP-OHIO. Their a question you can ask a council meeting Hal that might make a difference in the city. Plus your position can demand an answer.

Coal plants burn clean these days! Explain where? this will be good news to the electric energy business. Great than lets add another boiler, and turbine to the plant on Richmond St. You must take us for fools. Just what is your idea.

Shouldn't there be an investigation about why salt has doubled in price, in one year?

They say it the extra cost in the mining, and transportation costs, plus everyone wants on the bandwagon.

Painesville Power Plant IS NOT GREEN NOR CLEAN!!
Driving east from Mentor, all you can see is the Black Smoke from Painesville Electric Towers.

Yeah right, real green and clean.
It doesn't matter, over transmission lines, where this new found power boost will come from: it still ends-up in Painesville Power with their black-smoke facilities.
Coal is not clean, it will never be clean now or in the future!
There are so many many different sources for power - cost is a factor. Lets weigh cost against the fines for those that continually polute the environment???
