"11/17/08 PAINESVILLE COUNCIL MEETING"

Pretty informative meeting, City Manager presented the 09" budget. I liked the way it was explained because the layman could understand it. I wonder how the local economy will treat this budget? Does anyone have an idea what the next year will bring. Andy Flock brought up some very interesting comments about saftey forces overtime. Hal Werner would like to make English the official language of Painesville. Watch channel 12 at 7:30p.m. to view the whole meeting

I would like to ask council to vote for a sanity test for Hal Werner! I am sure they could fit that into the budget. How long must we endure his babbling at council? He costs the taxpayers more money by his senseless ramblings.

What does that even mean? Stop putting up bilingual signs around city hall? Ok don't spend less than 1 cent in toner but spend 40k a year per interpreter you have to hire. Every citizen has a right to access government whether they speak english or not. And no speaking english is not a requirement of citizenship and rightfully should not be. He is targeting only people of a certain race with this.

i disagree with the above person who says english is not part of citizenship. check your facts when you try to spew your liberal slant. i'm not in hal's corner on this one and i am sure not in yours. this was found at:

The U.S. Naturalization Test

English and Civics Requirements
To be eligible for naturalization, you must be able to read, write, and speak basic English. You must also have a basic knowledge of U.S. history and government (also known as “civics”).

During your interview, a USCIS officer will test your ability to read, write, and speak English and your knowledge of civics. An officer will ask you to read up to three sentences in English and write up to three dictated sentences in English. The officer will test you in civics through an oral exam of up to ten questions. Your ability to speak English is determined during your interview on the Application for Naturalization, Form N-400

Uh oh, someone did not do their homework. May want to read up on citizenship laws and requirements prior to engaging into arguments. I am only saying this because I try and research stuff before I make the comments that I do so I know that I speak the truth. I looked into this as I am guessing others will to. I will leave with, read up first friend. JT

Some got busted unless that was some kind of crazy double negative.
Nice to know the city is doing so well that he is making the "official language of Painesville" a top priority.
Lets get to the bottom line. If it was the official language what would it change in Painesville? Seems like its about as effective and a declaration that the official dinner of painesville is spaghetti and meatballs. Yipee, I'm still having meatloaf tonight.

Why hire anyone, let them bring there own. Alot more people in town agree with Mr. Werner then you think. I'm going to love watching that vote.

Maybe if we spent less than almost $400,000 in overtime in just the Police and Fire Departments so far this year we would be able to afford salt. Who's the Safety Director anyway.

Ok so we deny them access to government because they speak spanish AND are poor. This is stupid. Maybe we should focus on that flooding issue that actually affects people's lives. What a waste. Seriously what would actually change. Give me an example.

Truth be told you didn't deny them anything. If people knew they had to learn English they would. Why coddle people? What you think the Mexicans aren't smart enough? They can keep there culture just let them in , don't setup another language that will become a wall for all of us.

It takes time to learn the language and as time moves forward the people already here will know the language but what about the people who move here, legally of course, I see you immigration people lurking, don't flip the discussion. I don't think we should deny people just because they did not master the language at the flip of a switch. Why do we need an official language? This city needs plenty of things but why this? Isn't it already kind of the official language of the country. Why do we need something from city council to tell us that? Open question to all - Why is this not a waste of time?

How could anyone complain about paying our Police And Fire Dept. overtime, we are so lucky to have the best.

So do you want them to just go home when there shift is over ?

Hope there not in the middle of putting out your house fire, when they do...

Maybe the high overtime could be due to under staffing. These numbers are high for 10 months. Yes I can complain. I'm paying the tab. If you go to any community why will tell you they have the best, just maybe we all have thje best.

One fireman had 500 hours overtime, by himself so far this year, you have to wonder how efficient he is after working all that extra time. We don't need more overtime we need more police and firemen.

Nov. 19, 2008 at 7:30 PM on Channel 12...no council meeting! Why?

If its a budget presentation why did the city manager present it and not the fiance director? Who would a councilman go to to get an answer the city manager or the director? Just seemed alittle strange.

At November 21, 2008 at 7:06 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

probably either could answer questions, but why would the city manager not present it. Isn't she ultimately responsible? What difference does it make who presents it? You are reaching for wrongdoing here and I think you are going to come up empty like normal. But, to depart from the normal course of this site, if you do figure out that it was proper, will you for once post to say you were wrong and that there was nothing strange?

"FORCOMING" ??

What same tune are you talking about? I feel you are trying to interject your agenda in to a question and answer that had nothing to do with it. If you have nothing to contribute about why the city manager presented it, please leave out the useless post.

In the past I have seen the fiance director give the presentation.
Wrongdoing who said anything about that? We have a city manager who seems to have little faith in her directors, I see it everyday a work. She hires yes people and then has to micro-manage everything.
See who presents the budget to councils in other communitys?

You will love this:

During slavery they had mental health diagnosis believe it or not

Dreptomania was one

It was the sudden impulse to run away from slavery

If ya wanted to run away you were nuts...lol
