City sued over meetings
County residents accuse officials
of violating Ohio Sunshine Laws
Well I can't claim I'm surprised, numerous times in the past I believed this Sunshine Law had been violated.
This time it stems from the holding of secret community task force meetings about a controversial immigration policy.
A complaint was filed in Lake County Common Pleas Court accusing City Manager Monica Ireland and Council President Paul Hach of illegally closing task force meetings to the public.
No matter what your views on this subject, the meeting should never be held undercover of darkness.
It's so bad one meeting was held at Harvey High School, a public building I can only hope that this use was sanctioned by the school board? Or has PCLS been turned into Mr. Shepherds private world?
It's not bad enough that this task force is weighted heavily in one direction but how could a sitting city council person on this task force, who I assume knows the rules let this meeting proceed? Can you imagine the uproar if these meeting were slanted in the other direction and were held in secret? The people who wanted this task force interrupted at least three city council meetings and now want privacy at their meetings?
I believe our new city manager acted in haste to make this 'problem' go away may have unwisely stepped in it. Did she confer with our law director for his opinion?
Presently the minutes of the two task force meeting should be made public immediately, as well as the courts demanding the meetings be open to the public as well as public input.
The rule of law has been ignored for to long around Painesville!

Just an observation but our city manager seems to be in over her head.
Has PCLS been turned into Mr. Shepherds private world? Where have you been? Hired because he speaks Fluent Spanish, job postings requiring staff to be bi-lingual, eliminated woman media person for a Hispanic male and seen wearing tee shirt supporting undocumented aliens? Who's world is it? Not the legal Painesville citizens.
Yow!!! There have already been two meetings and the public is not allowed to be present??

Ms Ireland, if you read this blog (because I know Council people do), you might want to pay a little more attention to the needs of long time residents and a little less attention to the rantings of people who are new here (Kelsey Fischer) or people who are not here legally the first place.
Just a little hint, people do pay attention to you.

1) How is it a violation? What Sunshine was broken?
2) One council person? Three are able to meet on the side and thats not a violation. If there are 4 then its a problem.
