"QUESTION" moody blues
Why do you never get an answer
When your knocking at the door
Someone asked a question about the "Immigration Committee" that the city had formed.
So I took it upon myself to find out some of the peculiar's
I sent an email to assistant city manager Douglas Lewis (who is presently on vacation) and got this reply.
Doug,
It has come to my attention that the administration has formed an immigration committee, will this committee hold public hearings and will the public be able to ask questions? My only concern is that these meetings do not happen under the cover of darkness ad the city publicize the time and place of them.
Thanking you in advance Angelo

Good Afternoon Angelo,
Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately Doug is on vacation, so you will not be hearing from him. This email was forwarded to me, and I would be happy to clarify the situation for you.
This is not a committee of Council. It is a task force put together by me John Shepard to advise me on concerns tied to my policy specifically (Policy 413). The task force itself was announced in a couple of Council meetings and via of a press release. The participants have been released to the newspaper along with bios. There has been no darkness in the creation or participation of the task force.
The process has been public, and the recommendations/implementation will be shared publically, You are always welcome to ask e questions or share your concerns.
Have a great day
Sincerely,
Monica
MY Reply
Monica,
Thanks for the quick response. My question was would these 'task force' discussions be done in front of the public and could the public ask questions? I have noticed it seems to be weighted in a certain way.
Thank-you
Angelo
Still waiting
People serving on this 'Task Force'
Veronica Dahlberg, executive director of HOLA
Rev. Christopher Zerucha, Priest at St. Mary Painesville.
Feliciano Gamez, Painesville resident and active community member
Councilwoman Christine Shoop Ward I council person
Officer Roberto Soto, a bilingual officer on the Painesville Police Department
Also a local business owner and immigration lawyer have been invited. There first meeting was June 29?
So don't expect an open forum or any dialoged with this task force. They will make their finding to council who will review them in executive session and vote on changes (if any) in a council meeting.
This is not the way it should be done , but well. My only concern is that the wrath of the U.S. Justice Department, INS,ICE doesn't come down on Painesville or through these actions we loss badly needed grant funds.
If your not crazy about this procedure please inform our present city manager.
Please stick to fixing roads, purchasing fire truck ect. DO NOT involve yourself in Federal affairs.

Actually, instead of telling them not to get involved in federal affairs, it should be said don't involve yourself in trying to figure out how to BREAK federal laws. That's what this is all about. It's about how do they insure that lawbreaking people who are in Painesville illegally, get away with breaking the laws.
I just don't get why a small municipality on the northern border of the USA gets involved in immigration policy. Enforce the laws, and let the feds enforce the laws. This should not be controversial.
The best thing that could happen to this city is that the FEDs come. I as a resident am sick and fed up with the illegals being crammed down my throat. There is a system in place that needs to be followed and no need to re-invent a new system for those that chose to break the law.
Okay, I have to ask.
Isn't Ms Dahlberg an attorney?
Doesn't she deal with immigration?
Why have two people, who fill the same role, on this "committee?
Talk about a stacked deck!
I don't see one name on there that represents the majority of 'ville residents.
The only thing close might be the "business owner" but since that person is not named, who knows?
This is simply a way for the CM to get out from under the pressure. She cracked in her first time at bat.
6:38 No, Yes not a Painesville resident
Stacked! Like May West!
Your correct
Wishful thinking
She hung yourself out to dry!
6:35 Could happen
4:17 Maybe because the Feds have ignored the problem since 1985?
2:41 You might be right/ I can't see this task force coming back with something to break a law... but maybe something to ignore it? Either way it's the same thing.
It seems to me what happened here is that the nurseries wanted illegal labor instead of hiring them through the legal summer migrant workers programs. This could be why Abby Delamotte (sp?), former Painesville councilwoman, fought so hard for the illegals to be here, and to stay here, and why she put out a national call for illegals to come here. Was that it, Abby? Trying to make good with your friends, the growers in the area? Or trying to win points? So now we have a city that is filled with illegal people, who nobody knows who they are, and our schools and everything else are suffering. And what about our property values? Most of our homes are worth NOTHING now, mine included. I can only hope the value of Abby's home is in the commode, too. And our city continues to fill up with illegals, and advocate for illegals, and now we have a stacked task force to make sure that that continues. I would urge people, while we still have the chance, to NOT vote in any Hispanic to run this city; that is just insanity. That is just finishing giving away our city. This is not Mexico; this is America, and we need to get a grip here and fight back. Perhaps a petition to the feds and/or ICE is the way to go here but, meanwhile, I am begging people not to vote for the Hispanics.
1:31 There you go start a petition? Truthfully the illegal problem was already here when Abby went on FOXNEWS. With her welcoming them here.
3:07, this is 1:31. Yes, I remember it well. I believe what happened, as I recall, is that the residents started to fight back because our city was filling up with illegals (for one thing a full bus was/is? coming every night and dropping them off on Richmond street). So Abby, to fight back, and to fight for the illegals, went national, calling them all here, and telling them that we love our illegals in Painesville, and they are safe here. She spoke up for the whole city, when at least half of the city was fighting the invasion of illegal foreigners coming into our city. We can see what has happened since then. So when you see Abby on the street, make sure you tell her thanks for calling for people to come here illegally from other countries to break the laws of our country and city.
Are the 3 Hispanics of legal status? I hope that was taken care of before they applied. BUT everyone knows there are so many loop-holes and cracks to slip through. There should be proof shown.
1:31 sorry I am voting the Hispanic ticket as the present and past councils have failed this city. I say give it to them as it's the only way I see my home value improving. Eventually they will and are making more money than I am so they can buy my house that I sunk my life savings into. The schools are crap and I am hoping they oust our current superintendent and get the schools moving again, they want something better for their kids. WE failed this city, every single person who voted for council members over and over, didn't attend council meetings or show up for anything; this is what you get. Now you're outraged? I guess you weren't paying attention.
12:07 I sense your disappointment.
9:33 two... I believe they are you can ask to see papers it worked for one guy.
4:33 Believe me it wasn't just Abby. It was a concerted effort by many.
12:07, this is 1:31. Yes, I was paying attention. I was/am one of the ones who have fought this illegal problem in our country, and now in our city for at least 25 years. But I AM wondering if some of the people who laughed at us and called us racists, etc., now understand what we were fighting for. We were fighting for our city and our country, and we foresaw this happening, and we knew that the laws of our country needed to be followed. Probably most people DO get that now, and what I would say to them, is if you are not yet actively fighting, then you best not continue to leave this fight to others. And if you don't know where to start, start right in this city, right now. P.S. to 12:07, I hope you were employing sarcasm, because if you leave this town to the Hispanics, you are probably going to sell your home, which you sunk your life savings into, for about $20,000.00.
The superintendent is not going anywhere, he speaks fluent Spanish and is an advocate for the preservation of illegal immigration. There is a seat open on the board, vote in the new person for a change in the board.
1207 your thought process is terrifying. Have you ever gone to Mexico? I have, several times and it's disgusting. Vote em all in and see where this city goes? If you think it's in the toilet now, let it go to the Mexicans and see what happens. I can only hope no one else thinks the way you do.
This is 4:17. I think my comment was misunderstood. I agree with the painesville police policy. Enforcing the laws should not be controversial.
12:07 here.......... I and several others in the city are ready to let it go and no it wasn't sarcasm. We're sucking up our losses, turning our home into a rental and getting the hell out. We put in our 30 years and were active on more levels than I can remember or count.
This is a congressional issue and until congress fixes the immigration issue you get what you get. So go a head stand and waste your time in Spainsville; my family has decided we have better things to do. Clearly the current Trump policy isn't working as California farmers are plowing crops under as they rot in the fields with no pickers. Don't believe me, look it up. Nothing you say or do is going to mount to a hill of beans in this town as you have a pro illegal immigration proponent in charge of your school system and now a hand picked "task force" that appears to be pretty well stacked against home owners and legal residents. I will be voting Hispanic and quite a few in this city feel the same way.
8:14 My feelings are this 'Task Force' will be a farce.
4:17 No not misunderstood. For decades the federal government has sat on it's hands and now our police department must carry the burden?
5:13 People will think as they wish.
The current superintendent ' priorities are anything, but education.he spends more time with his many organizations than he does the school system. He has solidified his job by befriending the new CM and President of Lake Erie. It's all a party to him. We will see change for the better once he is gone. Really can't fault him totally. We have a board who operates as a good Ole boys club and are afraid to address his unprofessional behavior. He has cost the district money from lawsuits and his behavior has filtered to the admistrators in the district. Take the new football coaching position. Although Cellar is a good guy and may be a good coach, the hiring process was nothing less than discriminatory. There were 4 applicants that were teachers, 1 white and 3 black. The white applicant was hired without interviews and less seniority than the black candidates. This has been a hushed conversation, but keep an eye out. It's not over yet. Sure to see legal ramifications from this. Although one of the applicants was awarded the AD position with the exit of Hartman to Madison to quiet him, you still have 2 tenured individuals who were spite through this process. The middle school is still in shambles with the SRO saga continuing to be an issue as DeAngelis continues to be less than effective. But who cares when you are friends with the superintendent. It seems that we got what we settled for when we took him as our leader when he was not the chosen pick. That doesn't say much seeing their 1st choice spent a stint in prison for illegal activities for extortion. I say replace a majority of the board and get rid of the members who refuse to tackle these issues due to the inconvenience they pose. Oh and btw, we once again allowed an individual accused of inappropriate behavior to a student to resign and move to another district. So much for the safety of our students being a priority!
7:26 See you at the board meetings? I agree with your assessment of Heritage. Should be called "Save by the Bell the Jr. High Years!" Harvey under new leadership has cleaned there act up the Jr. High not so much. To be truthful we pulled my granddaughter out of PSLS and sent her to a private school. And until the day comes when I don't witness police cars driving constantly to Heritage school I suggest everyone give that some thought.
This is not directly related to this blog but I find it interesting that the OSP can set up an OVI check point anywhere except the 'ville and won't have an issue.
However in Painesville, they are "profiling".
I would have to say that if anyone who is an illegal gets nabbed at this check point on Saturday night, they are so stupid that I wonder how they managed to live as long as they have. You would have to be a complete moron to drive anywhere near the check point at the given hours. What would you think is going to happen?
Below is what I wrote to Cleveland.com with my thoughts on the subject.
Unlike Ms Fischer, I have lived in Painesville for my entire live. I have never heard the term "Little Mexico" applied to any area of the City. I can't even imagine what area of the City that it applies to.
She is the very personification of the term "snowflake"
The questions asked are all yes or no questions.
Is it legal to drink and drive? Yes or no?
Is it legal to operate a vehicle without a license? Yes or no?
Is auto insurance required in Ohio? Yes or no?
Lastly, are you a US resident or otherwise here through legal channels? Yes or no?
If a person doesn't know the correct answers to each of these questions, they likely should not be operating an auto.
Simple huh?
