"PAINESVILLE POLICE CHIEF GARY SMITH"
Police Chief Gary Smith is the blogs. "Person of the Year for 2009"
Some people tell me this site should be called "Who's Complaining Now Painesville"
They bring up a good point I've heard complaints about every councilperson, the city manager even some guy that snowplows a certain street for the city. In all the time Chief Smith has held that position I have never heard a complaint from a resident, the administration and even his own department about him. That's a lot when he has to balance the three groups all the time. He is approachable to everyone and is respectful to everyone he comes into contact with.
I was at a meeting where the speaker mentioned he had conversations with other police chiefs and got the impression they were in denial. He stated Chief Smith wanted to address the issue before it became a problem, and didn't want this in Painesville. He is proactive instead of reactive.
Building and scenery are nice but people like Chief Smith make Painesville a better place to live.

who voted on this?
There is one vote and it is the blog. administrator's
There are 2 votes
Add mine..
Was there a second vote? Also, not much credence if it is just TERM's choice. This means nothing.
It means everything. Now you sound like that Kanyi West guy. Try to get your person of the year up here? My blog. my choice, simple!
Well at least it wasn't John Murphy or your other buddie Andy Flock.
What you run out of guts?
you have our 2 votes for Gary, thanks for a good thing.
Chief Gary has been and will be the greatest Police Chief (and friend) that anyone in this City of Paine will ever have.
It is just way too bad that Chief Gary (who has the greatest credentials and experience)has to be dictated to by a very inexperienced City Manager. All other Department Heads bow to the Queen CM. I remember when the former Fire Chief left: His final statement was; "Now I can run my Fire Department as it should be Run." Remember remember?????

Anonoymous @6:51 I agree wi8th your remarks 100%, It is unfortunate that he is being driven out by the political nonsense that goes on under the golden roof. Former Fire Chief left for same reason, are we better off? ask his men. The city manager hires department heads that the only requirement and qualifications are they are loyal only to the city manager and screwing over employees at every possible chance.
[This post has been censored taking out names and events I can not prove] TERM>>
He lives in Painesville Township.
The last 2 posts must be from someone running for councl, we have, great fire & police dept's, run by great people.
See not only is Chief Smith a great leader, hes's also smart
Chief Smith may be a great leader but 5:34 there are departments in the city where the men have respect for some above them but can't stand the micro manager of there department.
They don't even get invited to retirement partys, actually they are even asked not to attend. More great appointment by the CM.
[This post was changed because it could cause alot of problems in that department, and I could not verify the facts. Please people I HAVE TO LOOK AT THESE PEOPLE SOMETIMES TWICE A MONTH]
Lets not start a FIRE
The fire is already smoldering. Maybe we need a full blaze to open some eyes up and get this house cleaned!

That's because he went to Riverside. Just another of the 255employees who choose not to back our city by living here. They all tell how great the city is. Are they just talking about their checks. Do ya think. DA
Who cares where he lives!
He has been a Painesville City resident in the past and has been a Painesville City police officer for over 20yrs. Since for some reason this meaningless point is a concern of some his "township" home is literally only 5 feet from the border of Painesville City. From what I have heard, he was prepared and more than willing to move into the city to take the position until the unfair legislation that required him to do so was changed so he no longer had to uproot his household, take less then value for his home because of the economy just to move a few feet. He is the best chief Painesville has had in years and he truly cares about the community, his job and his officers. To date he has had a successful tenure as chief despite answering to an sub-par city manager and council. So, where he lives is truly irrelevant and it is rediculous that you wasted the time to post that comment.
The issues with the problems at the fire dept. are well known. I would have posted your comment but I don't know what costs a person his marriage. Please repost your comment without getting personal and I will print it.
