"TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL"

Almost forgottem this fall two Painesville Board of Education seats are up for grabs.
Currently held by two outstanding members of the Painesville community.
Reverand Gerald Kalb
Mary E. Hada
Both very civic-minded people.

The challenger Steve Costell will be running an uphill battle to unseat either of the other candidates. He is a young husband and father with children at Maple Elementary School.
I have a pretty good idea where the two in office stand on the 50% policy and the general job the administration is doing. What about Mr. Costell does he see it the same way or maybe by some stroke of luck he sees it the way alot of you do? Ask him.

Also on the Y.M.C.A. after school program can someone explain the cost, amd time element here? I have some people telling me its free, $50.00 a week $85.00 a week?

Here's one one you'll love.
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We hope ypu are having a great first full week of school. On Friday September 4th, we will be celebrating how wonderful your children have done so far at Elm Street. We are allowing them to pay $1.00 to have a dress down day. This means your child can wear a tee shirt and jeans to school. All proceeds go to our P.T.A. Thank you for your continued support.

Talk about extorstion

Plus my daughters application for Girl Scouts came in spanish

This beats selling seeds, or candy bars?
Whats next? Tuesday you can bring pencils from home and for a dollar we will sharpen them in the offical
Elm St. pencil sharpener! all proceeds go to our P.T.A.

you may be hearing different numbers because I think after the $25 signup fee the cost is based on income. As with most YMCA programs they will provide financial assistant to qualified applicants.

This is the craziest idea yet to extort money from children. Please tell me this is just one of Terms crazy ways to make the schools look ,well stupid!

At September 5, 2009 at 6:48 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I understand the cost differentials because of financial assistance, but what about time? Do you pay the same to have your child watched for 30 minutes or 2 hours?
The pencil sharpener was a joke, the jeans and tee shirt were facts. I just wonder if Painesvilles 50% policy would holdup here? Wonder if any kids brought in two quarters and said "I'm in"

At September 5, 2009 at 7:17 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The kids love it, the staff does it also, and it is a good way to get some money for the PTA, by the way the PTA is a good thing.

Term you are very un-kind.

I can't believe with the ranking of the schools more people aren't interested in running? The problem with the school board is their is never any disent, textbooks, policy, employment why even hold votes? The people in town deserve what they get, school board, city council whatever. Painesville is a bottom feeder and seems perfectly happy there. Congratulations.
If I find any candidate that feels the need for change I would vote for them. New buildings are nice but where will these students be in 10 years?

Has anyone seen Mr. Costells canpaign literature? I'm surprised we haven't heard more? Why was he passsed by when they were looking for a replacement for the open seat? At least you would have a person that wanted the job? Maybe the board is just looking for the same old same old?

Lesson for the first week of school;
Mom and or Dad, can't fix you breakfast or lunch so we the government will buy it for you. We will also provide government A.D.C. food stamps, and in some cases mediaid. The lesson here is they always have a buck for something trivial to waste it on.Does our school board condone this?

At September 5, 2009 at 10:25 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Terms un-kind? What about the student who really can't come up with the buck? Young children can be the meanest things on earth when hey want to be. Self-esteem what do you think that does to that child.
What next a field trip to McDonalds but only for children that can purchase a happy meal and make a donation to the P.T.A.
Think people!

Term,
You are way off base, and to old to know what is going on, the kids love this and the PTA does good with money, and the money goes back to the kids.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Costell today while touring the new Harvey building. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy with high hopes for our children. He is a parent of 2 small children himself and is concerned with how the Painesville City School system is being run. He shared with me some of his concerns and I was impressed.

What I don't understand is why the school board didn't appoint Mr. Costell into the open position. He did interview for Mr. Seibert's spot but the board elected to go with Mr. Ehrbar instead. Even knowing that Mr. Costell was serious about wanting that position. Maybe the current board thinks they are invincible?

I do find it quite interesting that Mary Hada and Rev. Kalb both either serve on now or have served on the YMCA board which our newest school board member Mr. Ehrbar is the Branch Executive Director of. Coincidence? I think the above poster had it right when they said the board wants to keep it the same old same old.

What they are doing isn't working and something needs done.

O.K.I'm 59 but just what don't I know what's going on, youngster? Just an old senile old man here, explain please.

2:13 pm
So lets get this right, your son's class had only 3kids with "school attire" on that means the rest paid a $1.00 to dress down, thats great for the PTA, at least 2/3 of our class paid and dressed down.

At September 5, 2009 at 7:42 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's been awhile since I've been a member of the P.T.A. When did it become policy to solcit students? I must be old too.
The "Staff" should have known better, you are off base. Remembering who your working for would be a nice place to start.

At September 6, 2009 at 7:55 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Get off of it 7:42 you old goat,
This is a good thing, the kids get involved, they love a chance to dress down, and the PTA uses the money for the kids, they have done dress down days for a long time, around the holidays if they bring in a can of food they can dress down, there are Biz. out there that have dress down day for there workers for a lot of things, donate money, good job, etc.

We are lucky they have a PTA it is very hard to get vol. to help with that.

Tell me school administration people. Why does the Principal at Elm St. School have yellow license plates? Who's idea was this promotion?

Term: Here are the costs for the Y Key program:

Part Time (1-3 days)
AM only $28 per week
PM only $42 per week
AM and PM $70 per week

Full-Time (4-5 days)
AM only $34 per week
PM only $49 per week
AM and PM $83 per week.

There is a $25 non-refundable registration per child fee payable to the YMCA and a 10% sibling discount.

I have several children in Painesville City Schools and I thought the "generic" fee schedule was a bit excessive due to the minimal amount of time my children attend Y Key. Why should I pay the same rate for my children being there 20 minutes a day in comparison to another child spending nearly 3hrs there. I know that the Latchkey program at other schools is based on a hourly rate, for example, Painesville Twp is $2.50 per hour/$1.25 per half hour.

So do we know who runs the Riverside Distrct program? Please don't tell me its the Y.M.C.A.? It should be based on an hourly rate, just for fairness. I think its fine to reward children for good deeds. {Bring in can goods for the less fortunate,} but please explain what the good deed here was? Doing what's expected? Sets poor policy "BIZ"? I am old.

At September 6, 2009 at 3:06 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

to 10:58 so you pay for each child and you had to pay 25 fee for each as well. That adds up if you have more then two kids. Why dont they charge by the hour it seems foolish to charge a parent for a full week if like 10:58 stated your child is only in there a total of may be 5hrs a week. I'm lucky and have family members for my two kids, but for people who have to use this it just seems like robbery.

To 9/6 8:52-the principal Does have yellow plates? I was told he convinved a judge he should avoid them due to his position with the schools. Guess I was misinformed. Am I misinformed about Elm already being crowed and they will need trailers next year? I was not misinformed when I heard PCLS will be asking residents to cough up more money (dinero-yeah right)when they put a levy on in 2010. Guess I was misinformed when the voters were asked to build new schools and no additional money would be needed for a while.

A while is almost over. These people never have enough money in the first place, ask them. Why are the schools so overcrowded already? A city policy of letting as many people as you can stuff in a house. I watched a Painesville school bus drop 9 children off at one house on State St. don't tell me there all brothers and sisters it still takes 9 months to conceive a child. a judge that looks the other way about illegals , probably because he doesn't have to live in the same neighborhood. County Commissioners that are in bed with the nursery owners, or live in western Lake County and give legality with stupid cards to them. A priest that wants to increase the size of his flock. City councilwoman who go on national television and welcomes them to Painesville. A council and administration that for over fifteen years has had there head in the sand. Illegals that come to Painesville and call back to Mexico come here, these people will leave you alone to do as you wish. How long before the crimminals and drug dealers along with the gangs realize what a soft touch this city has become. Pay up because if you don't the children that are supposed to be here will be the ones who pay. Now dispute these facts.

At September 7, 2009 at 7:55 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

You want to know why the city schools, which were designed to be at capacity in ten+ years are now starting to be overcrowded? Browse through the city school calendar and look at each racial breakdown for each of the school...49% of Elm St Elementary is Hispanic...this absolutely ridiculous. Now you see firsthand how the immigration problem adversely effects our community..and this only the beginning.

At September 7, 2009 at 7:56 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just a wild guess here, but I think Elm St. and the rest of the schools have seen there last dress down day with a dollar donation to the P.T.A.
The question is why does a person with the record this man has is even concidered for that job? What is the message?

First don't go into a panic, before we buy trailers maybe we will stop open enrollment, like the Riverside district did. privatize the bussing like Madison did. There are alot of ways to save space and money. Some of the above posters make valid points, maybe now is the time for all you people that call them racists to put your wallets where your mouth is?

First off I wonder about parents that wouldn't want there children to listen to a stay in school do the right thing speech from the President no matter what party he represents some day a Republican President will address the students and the hard left will play payback. Its sad a President can't address the young people in this country without it becoming a political football. That said who at what school was so insensitive as to not give every child popcorn? Parent, teacher, P.T.A. it makes no difference. The school administration is responsible for everything that goes on in the buildings. I checked and this did happen.

It was explained to me that a deather is someone who says with government healthcare there will be death panels made up of people who will decide if you get care or not. A birther is someone who doesn't believe President Obama is a natural born American and shouldn't be allowed to be President. Believe what you wish but it would take alot of proof to convince people for or against either of these facts.

If parents really cared about their children they would support the PTA by attending the meetings and finding out what goes on in school. They could than support the PTA and children would not have to have day like that. Everyone complains about the schools but only a very few will go to meetings and try to help. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are helping or hindering you child by your terrible attitude about schools and teachers. Spend more time with your child in helping them with their homework and see if there is not an improvement in the scores at the end of the year. Caring parents will make the effort to help their child, the ones that only complains are not willing to put forth that effort to help. Most of the fault is at home with how the parents act.

7:11 mmm may I ask what is so bad regarding being a Rebuplican? You did get one thing correct Rebuplicans stay out the way and have less goverment where as Democrats like more goverment more taxes more everything. As a matter of fact that Democrat in office has spent more in less then a year then that Republican did in 8yrs. When your taxed to death and have no money left in your paycheck can we then have a chat on how this is all working for you? How do you think anything is going to paid for? Oh thats right print more money which will lead to inflation remember the 70's I do I may have only been a toddler but I remember sitting in gas lines w/Mom. I maybe the younger generation but I dont agree one bit with staying out of the way. So the Democrats and spend spend and spend some more.

Let me know when your done with your pollyanna shades and really see what is going on around you.

PS- I sit with my child and make sure the homework is done. I know where my child is. My child has rules and dear I say chores too. I care about my kids its shame that there are way too many parents that think only of themselves. Please and thank you are required in my home ect. It starts and ends at home you dont like the way kids act you have only to look at the parents and that explains it. Maybe harsh but, true.

9:02pm. Bravo! I agree with you 100%. Maybe you are one of those not paying into the system and are enjoying the fruits of our labor. I could understand your attitude then. Don't agree with it, but that is the only way I can understand someone supporting what is going on.
