"GUEST POST ,SORRY NO MUSIC'

I have lived in town for over 42 years and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly.
We will be picking 3 councilperson in November and something has started to trouble me.
We have a school system that has been on academic probation for what ever reason and just hasn't been able to get it right.
Now we have three people running for City Council that have academic backgrounds in school administration- another bureaucracy that tries to tell us how well they are doing. The 50% grading policy is a good example of trying to make things look better then they really are. I would hope the people running for council would have seen this as a failure, and if they did where was their opposition?
We have a retired Mentor teacher who's wife sits on the school board that passed a resolution that costed the residents of Painesville $150,000, on a give away to the State of Ohio and the school system. Some residents who live in Painesville are not even in the Painesville School System . He had no right to propose that idea. Who was he looking out for?
28 years this man has sat on City Council-seven terms- while himself and his block of 3 other council persons have voted some of the worst legislation ever made for this city-while supporting an administration that has brought stagnation, alienation, even embarrassment to Painesville. He now supports two members from the school system so he will continue to hold the majority in City Council-for what? So we end up with more of the same poor decisions and same administration that frankly has not got the job done in our schools nor our city.

I believe it is time for a change, because we certainly cannot afford to lose another 6 million dollars, a Charter Change that could raise your property taxes every year and we certainly do not need any more empty hospital, empty hotels, empty malls and empty main streets, along with neighborhoods looking disgraceful. Thats the truth of what we have been given for the last 28 years.

I will accept and print a rebuttal if forwarded to this site.

Can you or anyone explain the $150,000 issue. It seems more like taking money out of your wallet and putting it in your wifes purse?.

City council SHOULD NOT have an opinion on this. It is not their job. They run the city. They are not in charge of them educating my children.

This poster confirms people are buying into the false and misleading info you put on this site.

The 50% grading policy is a failure, but Council didn't have a direct affect on it. Hada probably did behind the scenes, but not as a council member. But the criticism of the school system stands. I just read the PD article and I am totally appalled that we went into a contract with Carbone to begin with, and now the new company is made up of Carbone major employees and officers. Interesting.

Yes but the people that promoted the 50% grading policy now want to run your city.
Think about it this way.
They educate my children. They should not be in charge of running the city.
If you remember the State of Ohio picked up the cost of two-thirds of the new construction and demolish the old schools. So if I'm right Mr. Hada forgave $150,000 in building permits he saved the State $100,000 the school system $50,000 which then cost the city $150,000 in revenue to the city. If I'm wrong explain it to me. It would be a terrible idea to save the school board $50,000 and cost the city $150,000.
What about residents in Liberty Greens or Heisley Park that do not have anything to do with the Painesville School System, why take there money out of the general fund?

Mr. Hada was the one of the main supporters, of the 3.9 Charter Change that could have raised your property tax every year without a vote of the people. The vote lost by over an 8 to 2 margin. This was the answer from the community in response to his request.
We were told all this annexed land would fill the citys coffers? Where is it?

Let's hope it is 8 to 2 against Hada at election time, but what do we have to replace him? Two more school people (one is an Abby hand selected replacement). Sounds like it will be more of the same. Been there, done that. Are there only 4 candidates now for the 3 positions since Arlene screwed up? Then we are definitely in for more of the same.

The earlier loss of 6 million dollars plus playing Santa Claus with our money to the school board would maybe have fixed alot of roads, a new senior center, recreation center, God knows what else and we would have never been ask for a property tax raise. We even seemed to fair pretty well without one!

To bad Term, Joe Hada will never lower himself to answer this post. He has to much class.

and with 50% of Painesville homes as rentals, property tax becomes very interesting to 50% of us.

getting older and gray-er with every passing year this council sits on their rumps & is lead by fearless leader CM.

Will Joe Hada turn up at Meet the Candidate night to answer some of these questions? If he has too much class to answer on the blog I am sure the bloggers will find him at Meet the Candidate night.
Not sure this is the year to "proudly" dodge questions. (and will Mr. Gurley be present to shut the audience down?)

Have you heard the rumor that our over worked Ward 4 Councilman Paul Hach wants to resign from his committee responsibilities? Why do these people take these positions only to disreguard their jobs? Am I missing something here, or is Paul a Ward 3 wanabe?

Term:
Unfortunately you are spot on- I have watched the President of Council vibrate with rage when anyone votes contrary to how he wants the vote to go. He shuts down residents that disagree with his postion having the audacity to treat opposing points of view as though he is still a schoolteacher, chastising some disruptive student. There is no open discussion at council because open discussions are discouraged.

Besides, decisions have already been made and votes counted in executive council meetings long before anything even goes to first reading.

Its a sham to think this adminstration or Council President want any real community input - notice next time this administration wants to push their agenda - they traipse up 3 people in favor of their position (the 3 minute rule doesnt apply to them) and then shut down any opposing speakers by keeping them to 3 minutes or less. Then dead silence and looks of disdain when they are done speaking- from my point of view - vote all incumbents out of office and start with a clean slate - we cant do any worse! But we can do a lot better!
