YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!

Just a quick comment from Friday evening. Heard this from a very reliable person that the City of Painesville Credit Union might have to relocate outside the city?
The credit union is not affiliated with the city it operates as a separate business. How humorous would it look to the area in general that this Credit Union were to leave. Please don't tell me about PCC Airfoil coming here. Look at all the businesses that have left. Gil Scwartz, Glenn Dist., plus the downsizing at Fasson,Coe Mfg. the list goes on. Ms. McMahon, Mr. Lewis, Cathy Bieiterman, Council, please address this now before we become the laughing stock of Lake County.

As a member, they do need a larger facility with a drive up window and as hard as it is to believe they cannot find this downtown. There are over 4000 members in the credit union.

They have been trying to move for years and the last I heard there were many sites on the table but they were all in the City. I have never heard talk about going outside so this is suspect to me, this talk about moving out of the City that is. I would think this wrong, but without actual confirmation from the board there, I will reserve judgment. I do know that yes, they do need a bigger building and I hope that they are able to find one that suits them properly. My one question to you TERM is, how does the City government get blamed for this? Are they to wave a magic wand and make the right site appear? Your constant slamming of the City never fails to amuse me. Thanks for the Saturday giggle. JT

JT, You must have alot of free time on Saturday? Your all over this site.
How does the city government get blamed for all this? Lets see we have a City Manager, Assistant City Manager, City Planner, Community Development Director, and probably a few I have forgotten to mention. Maybe if 1 or 2 of these people belonged to the credit union they would get some first hand advise? I dont think the city manager has been inside that building. You state that they have been looking for years for a new site? Maybe one or two of the above mentioned people would have put together a plan to show the board. If you knew they were looking for a new site you sorta figure someone at city hall would have a clue? Back to my view; reactive instead of proactive. No they will wait until its to late and then spend a ton of money to try to keep them here. You state the city manager and her administration have harsh critics? They got cupcakes! most people in surrounding communities wouldn't put up with half the stuff that goes on in Painesville. TJ. I am truly happy your happy here, I just wish I could find a pair of those rose colored glasses you seem to have on all the time.
AND not like some of you, they know who I am at City Hall and have never posted anything here I wouldn't say to their faces.
I am glad this amuses you but its really not funny.

Term, I went to jt. site and left alot of questions, maybe he was lonely? Hes so positive someone could steal his lawnmower and he would be pleased to purchase a new improved model. JT. is Rita.

Hey Term. Gil Swartz and Glenn Dist. had to move to stay in biz. they both merged with other co.

Coe is in a dieing biz.

Fasson was land locked.

not one of these things could have been changed by the city manager.

You just love to blow smoke.

Fasson wasn' landlocked I worked there and watched them go round and round with the city.
Coe Mfg. Joe Hada in his last run for council had Coe. in his flyer, explaining all the new jobs coming, remember?
The beer Dist. merged and relocated into a building in Mentor, why not here?
She decides what she wants, not anyone else.

Fasson was landlocked, and the city did try to help them, but they did not have what they needed.
(you should know this)

Coe did bring some new jobs, but they lost one of there big contracts.

The beer dist. merged with a company that already had the large coolers to store there beer in, that the mfg. told them they had to do.

None of these were the fault of Rita or the city council.

What about the old Rtie Aid that seems like it could be converted into a nice space.

At September 28, 2008 at 5:21 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

What are you talking about 3 Beer Distributos merged Western Reserve, Glenn, and Schwatz, none of them had anything in Mentor? Fassons had it with Painesville City and there B.S. and as far as Coe. they probably did lose a contract but where did alot opf there machines locate to?
Ask Rita what happened to the new office building on Chester St. Why did Fasson tear it down. I work there so dont try to tell me B.S.

At September 28, 2008 at 6:47 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

You are talking B.S. buddy,
You have no ideal what is the truth.

The beer dist. moved into a place where there was coolers.

Coe scraped there old machines.

The office building was the work of Fasson, not Rita, if you work there, ask them.

How could the city have stopped Fasson from building in Mentor thats the Companies Headquarters. If you work there you know they oved to Newell Creek.

Its never the citys fault, or Rita's. She always takes the easy way out. Ask how much of your money she spent to keep the hospital here in VAIN!

At September 28, 2008 at 12:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

As a resident and Former Coe employee, as I recall Coe almost left the City entirely. I was happy to see anything stay here.
What money did they actually spend to get the hospital to stay? And so what if they did? You want them to just quit and let it go? You want them to fight for the credit union but if it leaves are you going to be upset with them that the money was spent in vain? Hypocritical. Whatever they did to fight for the hospital I am glad. I am sure they did everything they could. What did they do that you would have done differently? You complain if they spend money trying to get them to stay, and you complain if they don't try at all. You complain either way.

TERM, even the working class can have the weekends off..after 16 years I got lucky, so I surf mainly on the weekends. I would also say that if the Credit Union went to the City and made intentions clear that they were looking, I would bet that the City would lend a hand. But, in business things are different. I would also bet that the management of the Credit Union just looked on their own without much fanfare.

Now, you mention tat your view is reactive not proactive, did you mean something else, you did not mean that is your personal view but rather how you feel the City operates, correct? Well I would submit that you are right in some small way. Many of the Cities around the country work the same way. They only replace a light pole when t breaks or defaults. They only dig up the sewers if they break. So maybe the reactive mentality is born into that type of government. But I know it not to be true. What about the hospital, lets talk about that. The hospital did not seek out the City for help with this deal. They got sweet treatment somewhere else and ran for it. And as a diversion they started a big project on East so that all in the City thought that it was going well. The City did not have a chance at all and if you really look at it you would know I was right.

And I don't wear glasses silly, I am just an optimist who is not afraid of a bit of confrontation. JT

JT. You are right the hospital did not seek out the city? WHY! Please name me one government body that works with the city? Mentor? the County Commissioners? Who wants to deal with the City of Painesville? and why not.
Oh, and the City Credit Union tried unsucessfully to buy the vacant lot years ago from the city to where the Gage House has been relocated. Who put up the roadblock there?
Confortation?? You don't even want people to know who you are. Please.

Spending money on a project to get or keep someone in town, I think is a good idea. Its when you spend it after they decide to leave is when its a waste of resources. I think the figure was close to $350,000 to try to keep the hospital here. How many sit down meeting did the city have with Lake Hospital Systems in the 5or6 years before they decided to leave? I'm not blameing the city manager for the hospital leaving, or Fasson, Steris but we have to become proactive or in a few years nothing will be left. As far as Avery leaving I will post an idea on how we might have convinced them to stay. Remember it is only an idea, but maybe someone with a vision will pick-up the idea.

Term.
The lot on N. State St. was to small to put in a drive-thru.

At September 29, 2008 at 2:17 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

And you can blame greedy citizens for part of the Hospital problems. For years they tried to buy up houses on that next street behind the parking lot and as soon as people heard it was the Hospital they asked for way too much.

How do you know about the lot on State St.?

They moved to a building with coolers? Wonder what the electric bill in Mentor is to run coolers? Maybe they run on solar power? Another reason they should have stayed in town.

TERM, do you really think that knowing who I am makes my comments more valid? If so, what is your reasoning. I am here with an account, not anonymous and for that reason you always know the same person is here. My ideas are the important thing regardless of who spouts them. I am a US citizen that lives here, works here and cares about this City. Who cares what my drivers license says? I have met many people here and enjoy their ideas without really feeling the need to know who they are. I am not paranoid and for that reason, their ideas are sufficient with me.

How come the US government did not prevent the bail out of the financial market well before this crash? My guess, no one in the business sector wanted the help and figured that they could fix it until it was too late. Very similar comparison in nature, reactive government policy.

And as far as the State St. property, ever think that the City had plans of their own that they did not wish to divert. God forbid that the City should be looking forward huh? Maybe the Credit Unions plans came in after the City made their own plans for that property. And it does look a bit small to be honest, they do want a drive through and who knows. I want to see good things come to the CU, don't get me wrong, problem is that you just don't know all the plans out there that have to made on a daily basis. Its not like the City hasn't attracted a couple big businesses here, Core, PCC, Cintas and more to come.

How come Cleveland did not work harder to keep the Browns, OH that's right, they left in the middle of the night and no one heard about them trying to leave in advance. Art was a business man and did not care about what happened to the City or their plans. Most business plans are made and not broken. City could have done nothing to keep a business that wanted to leave. JT

At September 29, 2008 at 5:59 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Of course the city is reactive. If they act in advance you would criticize them as fixing something that wasn't broken.

Well first the hospital is not a government body. Second, name one? Concord i.e. the JEDD

Don't fix it if it aint broke...goes way back. And you are right, the city would get slammed for spending money without a visible need. JT

Part of the deal with Concord Twp. was that the City of Painesville would agree not to annex anymore land. We all know who the "Super Annexer" is. Sounds like self-preservation more than anything else. Plus can Mentor or Chardon provided them with utilities?

Karen,
Don't you remember you are on the list, what you say is worthless.

Look don't try to fix it now he said name one and I did. Period. They could probably annex land somehow, but why would they need to after the JEDD is in place? It's not self-preservation, they got a good deal too.
And what are you talking about "super annexer"? Please explain.

At September 30, 2008 at 4:24 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The "SUPER ANNEXER" is the city manager.
Oh, and someone posted she had two job offers? Tell me who's offering the head of the city that is ranked 75th out of 76 community's in Greater Cleveland? Someone looking to destroy there town?

Soooo annexing is bad? We were a landlocked city and by annexing look what we have added. Tough sell to say it is bad. Maybe the city would be 76 if she wasn't here.

At October 6, 2008 at 8:54 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Annexing improved property instead of fixing the city problems now thats a topic.
Do you walk around Painsville at night?
Why are all the restraunts closed in the evening?
Prostitutes on the corner?
Gang activity?
Drug Houses?
Illegal aliens?
40 dish satellites per house?
Homeless under the bridge?
Sure let's focus on new annexed properties some more and maybe this other stuff will just go away?

At October 6, 2008 at 2:03 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Of course we still need to look at the conditions of the city within the pre-annexation borders but how can you possibly say that it was bad to annex that land? They are not annexing instead of trying to fix problems they are annexing land WHILE trying to fix problems. I'm not going to argue with you that they should be doing a better job fixing the problems here, but it is short-sighted and not in the best interests of the city to forego an annexation project just because not all things are peachy-keen in the city. If you wait until everything is perfect here to take advantage of annexation opportunities you are only hurting us all.
