"ALETHOPHOBIA"

Look it up. After reading alot of the posts I think we might have an epidemic of it here in town. People can't ignore things and pretend it doesn't affect them. If you think some of the subjects that are brought up here are to "hurt" the city there not, no we all most work together to fix whats wrong.I went over to read the positively Painesville site and even there no one wants to identify themselves? Why if all to be positive. Someone mentioned living in a fish bowl, they might be right.

If I were to fear the truth I would should be comfortable visiting this site. Readers know that the truth is not something commonly encountered here.

to the foul mouthed anonymous, you are so quick to criticize TERM but can't you see yourself through all of our eyes. You are everything you say you hate. You are definitely uneducated. Educated people can find better way to express themselves. Try night school. Or day school since you seem to be free all hours of the day and night. Unemployed?

I have moved this blog link from my informational links category to entertainment.

Thank you to all of the posters who constantly make me laugh with disbelief. And a special thanks to TERM for being the straight guy in this whole comedy act.

You guys actually had me fooled into thinking this was real for a little while!

I looked the word up, anyone else? That is funny, but I find the definition says "crippling fear of the truth", I think it's OK to be scared a bit, it keeps you on your toes. But "crippling" seems to imply that a person would not be able to function as a result of the fear. A little severe for the day to day fear that keeps you safe. Good day all. JT

At September 13, 2008 at 5:36 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

JT. Are you telling us you don't need the truth all the time just some of the time? The fear comes from someone pointing out the truth and you just don't want to know. People want me sued why?ayrgvda because I pointed out something they just didn't want to know about? Councilman Hada set up a Rental Housing Task Force will they have the "guts" to look into this property? Alot of Painesville is all "show and no go."

At September 13, 2008 at 6:13 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Rental Housing Task Force is a joke. Look at the members, they all except 1 have a vested interest in having this city 100% rental.

If you ever see action come from that group you better look at it real good because you can bet its good for landlords, low income, section 8, illegals, and county commissioners.

Ever wonder why there is no representation from normal everyday people owning their own home? Because they know most of us would tell them take all these damn rental properties and stick them where the sun don't shine.

At September 13, 2008 at 9:35 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The rental task force has no right to look at this property.

At September 13, 2008 at 2:41 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why no right? It is a rental property.

At September 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

They are just some people why would you think they would have any right to look at this house

Landlords in Painessville dont give a damn about the town, The guy from section 8 has coffee withe the priest all the time.. there in cahuts! This task Force is a joke...

The real fear is Term might be right!and rhis city exposed. Ask a real estate broker about Painesville.

At September 14, 2008 at 9:21 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

What is there to be exposed? You and your conspiracy theories. Who cares if the people on the task force are rental owners. If the group is dedicated to improving the existing rental properties then that is good for all of us. They have no authority to change the city to 100% rental. Some people work to imporove the rental properties you complain about so they must be in some conspiracy to hurt painesville. Just because they aren't in your group of complainers and they are people taking action to improve the city they must be bad. Some people like to work with where this city is to make it better. You people like to think that by simply complaining or dreaming up crazy conspiracy theories that this city will magically turn around. That the blighted areas will flip mansions and thriving businesses. I don't care how old you are or what the city was like in the 50's and 60's when you were growing up here. You are very nogstalgic but also delusional. This city is not going to flip back to poodle skirts and howdy doody. We have to get based in reality. You have to accept the city for what it is now and then move forward. You fail to accept reality.

Painesville without rentals, would go down the drain so fast.
you all know that right ?

At September 14, 2008 at 1:41 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Painesville without rentals, here is what would happen.

Illegals count way down, no where to live.

Population, drops 5,000 people, average income number goes up $15,000 per year, we look a lot better for businesses to move in.

Crime down probably 25%, less cost for city services.

Neighborhoods that actually resemble a "neighborhood" and not a ghetto.

The landlords are defending themselves in the posts above because they are sweating it knowing if you look at any citizen survey taken in this city the overwhelming results are people want less rentals.

Get real, there would be no one here, the houses that are rentals would be empty, and you would be so upset about that.
We are renters, and love this city, thanks to our landloard for buying this old house and fixing it up so we could rent it.

At September 15, 2008 at 3:23 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, there are good landlords and bad landlords. We don't need to get rid of all rentals we just need to cut back from 50% of our housing being rental to a more healthy and normal 20% being rental.

Like so many other things in life too much of something can ruin it. At a 20% level the majority of landlords would be the true businessmen who understand the need for long term upkeep to protect the investment they have in their properties.

When we have 50% we attract a lot of undesirables to our market and the result is a decline in neighborhoods as properties become slum like and crime ridden.

A market of 50% is also unhealthy because it floods the market with rentals and creates an abnormal situation where landlords lower rent just to fill units. When that happens there is less money for upkeep to the rental units.

This is not a slam on renters, but it is a true fact that most (not all) renters are usually at a lower annual income level than home owners. When a city or geographical region has too many rentals it abnormally lowers the average annual income statistic that businesses use to determine where they will open new stores.

One simple change that would start to help Painesville is if the County simply passed a resolution that all housing assistance and section 8 need to be more fairly distributed throughout the county. Do our county commissioners really feel it is fair that 85% of low income people live together all in one city while the rest of Lake County has become one of the richer counties in our state?

There are many fine rental properties in town with some great landlords and tenents. Its a shame they get lumped together. How did everyone weather the storm last night?

At September 15, 2008 at 3:30 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The County Commissioners would never subject the rest of the county to what they do in Painesville. They want to get re-elected. Our city leaders should have complained about this ..Yes even in the press, and complained to the Federal Government.

At September 15, 2008 at 5:36 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

You think 20% rentals would be better, so we would have 20% rentals and 30% empty houses, and 50% home owner lived in houses, boy that does not sound so good.

True they are fighting it, but we need to help them. When is the next commissioner race? Lets use the great resource this blog is and start a campaign for someone who will replace the commissioners sticking us.

TERM, No, I did not say that at all, read what I wrote. I wrote that it sounds like "crippling fear" imply's that one could not function as a result of the fear, and compared it to the day to day fear that keeps one on their toes and safe, like when crossing the street. I watched my friend get hit by a car as a kid, thus, I have a fear when crossing the street that keeps me safe. That is all I talked about. I have no fear of the truth, as long as it is the truth and not just the spoutings of people with no idea of what they are talking about. You would be surprised to learn that we are more alike that you think. I think that the truth is a very noble thing along with my word. I don't think that they should be toyed with and used loosely. No crippling fear here friend, as long as it is real and true, the lies are scarier to me than the truth. JT

One issue I don't see discussed is the impact on the schools. Especially the elementary schools. Some classes change their attendance by 50% from the time school opens until it close in June.
Hard on teachers, hard on kids, hard on the statistics.
State Streets enrollment would go through a 50% turn
around every year. Ask Med Johnson about those figures.

At September 15, 2008 at 3:16 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with you rentals play a big part in school enrollment, also migrant workers, Sec 8. You have to wonder what the kids are able to learn? I am looking into doing a Post on How schools "scrub" away test scores. I have no idea if Painesville does this. It really affects a district.
If open enrollment affects the schools rating? What are the numbers? The district spends over $11,000 per year on each student.Which to me should provide a great education.

The wisdom of T man, $11,000 per student what drugs are you on?

At September 15, 2008 at 4:41 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

$11,000 per student is probably distorted because a certain percentage of students need special attention which raises the cost.

If that $11,000 is an average then a better number to ask for is a median amount, that would take out some of the high end student distortion.

At September 16, 2008 at 5:36 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would imagine our per student average is higher than other areas for the reasons mentioned above. So the average student without any special needs gets less than 11,000. Who knows how much less, could be alot less, I don't know. Which is not good because I thought nationwide the average per student was around 12,000.

You add in the cost of all the ELL classes for the non English speaking students and that cost is exhorbitant, and you and I are paying that. And our children's learning suffer because of this.

At September 17, 2008 at 3:36 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please explain "ELL" "ESL" means english as a second language. is that what you meant? or is this something new? Have you noticed all government wants to use the alphabet to describe something and we are supposed to know what the letters mean?

At September 17, 2008 at 5:56 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

ELL is the new politically correct term. It stands for English Language Learning, which used to be the ESL, English as a second language. Remember at a school board meeting a few months back the schools spent quite a bit of money for a new reading program for the ELL students. Can't remember how much. Something like $150,000

So, as adults let's hear some opinions, legal or illegal can we live with not teaching a child to the best of our ability?

The child had no say so in his legal status, the child just sees a world and learns from it. Do we help educate them to live as americans or do we deprive them and force them to learn to hate the American way as something that is unfair to them?

Did you know in Perry Schools K thru 1,2
they do not have science but they have spanish ?

Unfair to them????? What about being unfair to legal citizens who are supporting these kids. Go ahead and educate them, but their parents should be paying a tuition. They aren't paying for the schools with their property taxes that support the schools. They need to be charged tuition.

McCain came out with a potential agency name. Nobody is calling it by those letters yet. This things are normally in existence and known to someone who has to say the full name more often than they would like to before they are ever referred to solely by their initials.
