TERM, don't misunderstand my dislkie for nasty and rude behavior for good informative banter. I have no problem with the type of blog you run here, just the way in which people react and "think" that they will accomplish something if they are mean and nasty. There will always be a place for informing people and letting them know where you stand, but, when it gets confrontational, I bow out. I am not afraid of confrontation, I just know it gets you nowhere. To be perfectly honest with you I bet 3/4 of the people that posted here and were nasty, may not identify themselves by screen name if found in a big room with the other bloggers here out of sheer embarasment.

Anyway, where is the apprecieation day located, maybe I missed it in the opening.

"This City spends money like theres no end to funds?" Where did that come from? This city runs a balanced budget every year, in fact they get awards for how accurate and above board the budgeting practices are.

When I constantly read in the papers about all the cities and school systems in NE Ohio that are in money crunches I am very thankful that we have an Administration and School board that actually knows how to operate within their means.

They get awards for stateing where the money is spent, not how it is spent. The key word is "NOTES". notes means loans, and we keep rolling them over. Argonne Dr. resurfacing done over 2 years isnt payed off yet. What they do is payoff one credit card with another.
Its like a drunk being audited and showing he spends 70% on booze, 20 % on smokes and the rest he uses to pay family bills. He comes out with a clean audit. You people are going to learn the hard way I gues. Like the 6 million dollars they blew away in the 90's.

The city seems to be run for the bettermet of the people at the top, no way anyone can justify the salary of the city manager and her assistant receive period. Now I find out she even gets an annual annuity, we already pay into PRS retirement why this is done you wonder she doesnt pay city income tax on an annuity. You people are goinging to wakeup broke one day because of these practices. Why did they hid it? I'll leave room for you in the clouds after she runs it like some business into the ground. You can for sure add Mary Poppins to the list of people who don't have a clue.

Make a list of the duties and responsibilities handled by "Manager and sidekick" and take that list out into the private business world and see how much those skills would cost you. I think they are fairly paid.

My take is Mary Poppins has never been in a manager level type position and thinks it is something simple to perform.

Why bring up the 6 million?, your posts are like Terms', you put crap in there that has nothing to do with todays reality just to stir up trouble. The 6 million was a bad investment loss 15-20 years ago when Lester Nero was city manager, why and what would possess you to compare todays administration to that?

The next question for you is why you believe it is all the city managers fault? Do you realize things like the argonne repaving is all voted on by council? If you think that was a wrong decision why aren't you hammering council?

BATMAN, The reason I bring up the 6 million dollars is alot of the same people are still in power here in town. Now last year the City Manager gave the Human Resourse Director Robert C Baetzel a pay increase of over $14,000 a year that council approved would you have approved that large an increase? Maybe you Did.

Lets play Batmans ideas out;
City Manager and Sidekick $215,000
CEO of a large business.
City Council [7] people $43,000
Board of Directors of a Corporation making less than minimum wage.
Theres your apples to oranges!
Council doesnt have a clue half the time whats going on because the Manager only gives them information she wants them to have.
The biggest mistake was bringing her back to town.
She only needs 4 votes to keep her job and thats her only concern.

6 Million may have been lost at one point but it was a long time ago. Some people are still in power but not the people responsible for losing it. There was some wrongdoing involved but it was not on the part of city officials except possible the finance director who IS gone. If you really want to talk about that money you should probably note that it was recovered by the city when they sued for it. Some people were willing to just lose it and let it go but others wanted to fight to get it back and they did. We should thank them. Bottom line: this is really in the past and it really shows you are low on ammunition when you reach for this one.

Sorry I think the administration is overpayed when you have people making $75,000 a year to do a job private industry would pay alot less for doing the same jobs. The 6 million Dollars was recovered all of it ? how much of it really was recovered?
Running out of ammunition? Your kidding right? Its not ammunition its asking for responsibility. These raises were given after a "Must Have" Saftey Levy failed. Seems there must have been plenty of money. When the Hospital leaves we will hear about pay freezes. Some will have been well taken care of by then. But what about the guy who plows the snow in the winter, or the lady that sends out your utility bill?

At August 18, 2008 at 5:14 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Again, TERM you need to do your homework before making statements.

$75,000 is not out of line for wages, from the State of Ohio employment statistics for 2006 for Lake County in the "Other Chemicals Production and Preparation" (this is a large employment sector in Lake County, that is why I chose it) the annual average wages in 2006 was $71,426.

I'm not so sure paying someone $75,000 in Lake County in 2008 is so out of line, maybe you should be looking for another job or some further education if you think $75,000 is such an astronomical figure.

No, TERM/Anonymous if you want the salary compared to other cities then YOU should get the numbers from other cities and post them, as part of your statement. I have looked up the numbers I wanted to use and decided $75,000 is OK. If you actually go out and get the amounts from other cities I might believe you, but until you do your post is just another piece of BS stirring up trouble.

What does "Look into the law dept. raises mean"? Again, do you actually have numbers to back this up? If yes, post them, otherwise your just stirring up trouble with everyone who reads this and doesn't go look it up themselves.

Your "contrition" may be over but until you learn to do your homework I am going to challenge every post you make.

I support batman on this one. Term you gave the impression the blog was going positive and then you throw out this crap. You had a chance to sway me there and you blew it. 14,000 may sound like alot but if their salary was too low by that much and it was only brought up to where it was supposed to be then by paying them too little we have been saving money and 14 doesn't hurt so bad.
I think readers can see you for what you are Term. I don't feel the need to tell them. They can figure it out for themselves.

"how many of you even know whats going on?" Seems like you guys only throw out bad questions and accuse council of wrongdoing where it doesn't exist. YOU don't know whats going on. Nice job TERM, you actually looked up facts!

So, Mentor at $70,000 with ~350 to 375 employees and Painesville at $75,000 with 321 employees. With the Painesville Electric/Water/Sewer ours probably deals with at least 3 more Unions than Mentor.

I would say that's pretty close, I might actually allow that we are overpaying ours by a few thousand but nothing more than that.

Not all cities employment numbers are available at this time of night but I would offer a guess that comparing Mentor and Painesville are comparing the two largest.

Continue to change your ways and blog true numbers and you can be credible with most of us!

Term, I take it you have no education in economics, sociology, etc.

We are not comparing population, we are comparing number of employees, unions, etc. that the HR person has to be held responsible for.

Yes, Mentor is larger population wise, but since Painesville owns and runs all our utilities (electric, water, sewer) we have almost as many employees. That fact is OK from a budgetary standpoint because those utilities provide a lower cost product to in city residents and businesses while covering the cost of themselves.

If you want to start playing in the economics ring you need to learn real quickly that you cannot just pull one fact out of an info sheet and treat it as a stand alone item. If we had a way to calculate just the savings on utilities the readers of this blog get in one year because we own our own electric the amount would probably be enough to pay that extra $14,000 that you are so worried about.

There is a certain group that posts on this blog that constantly complain about the quality of the city employees, yet at the same time you complain that we pay them too much. The first step in getting good employees is to make sure you can pay them on par with other businesses/cities that might want them as employees.

The complainers on this site have all the rights to complain, but you should decide to complain about money or employee quality, not both, because you can't have one without the other.

I can't wait for my campaign and have you and your group try these attack tactics in public, I will quickly nullify all your misled tactics and get your little whiner group to once think before you complain.

I fully agree we should pay our council more. The reason we don't is when Becks tried to do it the "good ole boy club" voted it down. Why? Maybe they figure as long as they aren't paying much no one of high caliber will run against them? I don't know.

For the record, I believe for the most part are city employees are good at what they do, some bad apples in every barrel. I also believe this city could much better if we got rid of our whole council and replaced them with people actually willing to challenge things like:

1. We are the county seat so we have to put up with every low income housing program in the county.
2. We are the county seat so we have to be a haven for every piece of human trash that exists in Lake County.
3. How about a council person that is willing to stand up and say, "I'm proud of this city, I like where I live, and if you don't like it here, leave".

I could go on and on.

CITY COUNCIL IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PART-TIME JOB, PER JOE HADA.HOWEVER,IF HE HAD EACH WARD COUNCIL PERSON GIVING A REPORT ON THEIR AREA RESIDENTS OF THEIR CONCERNS. AND THE COUNCIL-AT-LARGE PERSONS, MAKING A REPORT ON THE ENTIRE CITY RESIDENTS CONCERNS. THIS WOULD SHOW THAT THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOB1! AND THIS WOULD MAKE FOR A MORE FRIENDLY CITY, BUFORD

If you live in Ward 3 dont call Mr. Fountain its a waste of time, I understand hes sick but someone should at least return your call. He wasnt at te council meeting either. What do we have to do to get channel 12 to work? Its bag meeting after meeting.

I don't think the administration is worred about John Murphy winning,
