"CRYSTAL BALL" PAINESVILLE'S FUTURE

Just to change the subject here for a second, what do some of you see in our town's future in the next 10,25 even 50 years? Is it a good, bad, or even an ugly future? I guess I'm asking is Painesville on the right track?

From BATMAN

I'll be the first to give my opinion.
Right now this city is at a turning point that could include becoming a good choice for young families thrive in. I will list all of my reasons for believing this.
1. Immigration, some people see it as a negative, but the bottom line is it has already happened, our Fed Gov. has pretty much declared hands off to local Gov. so it is here to stay. If you have ever studied immigration from a historical standpoint you will know that after the initial strain on a countries economic system there has always followed a great boom in that same economic structure as the immigrants are assimilated into the host society. If as a city we can culturally accept our immigrants and work to get them as part of our society we will prosper from an economic standpoint.

2. The current socially active volunteer/business network in this city is more vibrant than it has been in many, many decades. The reason most county seat cities suffer is because of social and cultural separations between the greatly diversified groups that type of city supports. The missing pieces right now are the social leaders that can bring together theese diverse groups to actually become one single community.

3. Believe it or not I firmly believe we are suffering from a group of county commissioners who still believe in only one way to make a county attractive, and that is growth through building more and more infrastructure and big business. Painesville will never be a "Mentor, Concord, Perry, Etc." but what we can be is the cultural diversity center of Lake County. We need a County Commission that understands what our future is and then works hard to help us get there. I think right now they don't know what to do with Painesville so we are just the dumping ground for government assistance with no plans behind that to do it in a non-destructive way.

4. Our future belongs to the next generations and right now we are afraid to let go of the past and realize we "owe it" to our childrens generation to build a city for their future and quit trying to bring back a city to satisfy our "past". We have a large population (many on this blog) that doesn't understand the world we grew up in is gone.

5. We need leaders who are willing to stand up, put out for all to see a vision, then drive a community towards that vision with a passion that includes saying "NO" to anyone who doesn't believe in it.

We don't need a "Mayor" who politically pleases everyone, that will drive us backwards. We don't need a councilman who has his head clouded by a hatred for immigrants and Mexicans. We don't need a group that thinks the way to change is to show up at every public meeting and complain and cut down people trying to lead.

I have a vision where this city needs to be in 50 years, I will be dead but my childrens generation will reap the benefits. I am living my life in an active way that will push us to that vision. I am willing to stand up and tell anyone trying to kill my visions "NO", I am not a patsy that is going to put up with a vocally negative, non-productive, ignorant acting group of people getting in the way just so they can feel "satisfied".

Term, you really need to start a "We hate Mexicans" blog. I mentioned mexicans once, and the was in a sentence that referred to "immigrants and Mexicans". From this I have been labeled as "turning the city over to illegals", "turning our culture into Mexico", "turning our land over to Mexico", and who knows what that was bad enough you removed it.

This blog is way to full of bigots and racists, this is the last post for BATMAN, I'm out of here, see you next election year.

I never said I hate or dislike Mexicans, but I will not tolerate illegals of anywhere. Germans Italians, Mexicans, ect. and Painesville sir has more illegal Hispanics here than legal ones. Now try to disprove that fact. When you invite someone into your home they are a guest. What do you call them when they come uninvited?
Intruders? If that makes me a bigot or racist so be it.

The first generation of any immigrant group has always brought their country's customs and lifestyle with them. By the 3rd generation, the immigrants are usually adapted into the American way of life. I've seen it in my family, and I see it in the hispanics in Painesville. Do you think 10 year old kids want to only speak Spanish and act like they live in Mexico, or do they want to adapt to the American way of life and act like most of the others their age do?

It is a lie to say that hispanics want to turn the USA into Mexico. They came here because they want the opportunity in the USA, not to colonize the USA.

Ok "buford" Council people are not given a ticket book to go around and write tickets for violations of ordinances. Name a single ordinance that can be attributed to them voting to not enforce that the other three voted the opposite on. You are being a bit ridiculous, but most of your posts are. I can't even recall an ordinance that came before council before where the vote was - "should we enforce this ordinance agaisnt this guy"
Dude please let your followers out of your locked basement so you can stop brainwashing them. Your post was not in the vicinity of reality.

How has she done this?
Don't just tell businesses that have left but rather how the city manager caused them to leave. Maybe this can turn into a good discussion if you have a leg to stand on.

Wow, you are comparing immigrants to Hitler's plan to take over the world. Just pointing that out should be enough.

"The one fault with your theory was that Mexicans want to become Americans, these are a proud people that do not want to embrace American Culture but keep their own Culture and Language."
Now you are the mindreader, you seem to know exactly what people whom you do not know or understand want. This is simply not true. Many many hispanic people attend classes and try very hard to learn the language and culture. They don't do it for you, they do it to get a job. Money is the ultimate motivator and this is ultimately good for the economy. Are you the guy going around town drawing devil horns on all pictures of hispanics? I still cook foods that my family used to cook in italy and I still speak a little italian, does that make me reluctant "to embrace American Culture"?

"I happen to want a future for my grandchildren, and I will say NO to anyone who is going to hand this land over to the mexicans."
I'll tell you what. I stand firmly against illegal immigration. However, we can fight all we want but lets face it, its controlled by the federal government and they are doing nothing. If you find yourself in a bad situation there comes a time where you have to make the most of it and turn things around. If you just keep complaining and trying to change the unchangeable, you will never be able to make a recovery. Sometimes you just need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and say I'm going to take the situation I'm in, mexicans or not, and still work positively for the betterment of the city and my community. Maybe even embrace this new resource of labor and profit from it.

Why don't you try to prove it first before disproving it?

What makes you a racist or a bigot is that you assume people of a certain skin color or people who speak a certain language ARE illegal. They are guilty til proven innocent with you because of their appearance. Its like assuming every arab guy is a terrorist. Its racist.

Wow, go on a vacation and return to find "Hate Fest 2008". Things were really looking up and I see that like all other blogs out here, people can not stay on topic. TERM asked what the outcome of Painesville would be and all of the "anon" replies start flying off the handle. I side with why the hell don't you just get used to the idea because the illegal problem is not going away. Batman was right, way to many bigots here and the atmosphere is very stifling. I can feel my creative juices slowing in my veins with the huge intravenous dose of putrid hate you all spew. I am normally very positive but in light of the self righteous folks that "claim" to be American here I have to think that we are in big trouble in Painesville.

TERM, I will not let the purpose of this blog comment to get lost. I see Painesville turning around. I am in the mix so to speak and I can see the change. This town used to be much more violent than it is now. There are problems here like everywhere, but I am not afraid to walk down the street. I like this town, truly do, and I grew up in a unlocked door town on the west side and transplanted here in the 90's.. No, I did not grow up here and am not a "native" but what makes a native anyway? How many of you out there are true blue American anyway? If you were, you would embrace the fact that someone wants to be part of this great country and may have something to contribute.

I see Painesville moving forward and like the new housing, schools, street lights and signals, Lake Erie College, industrial park, more land now than fifteen years ago. But maybe I am an optimist, sorry to spurt that dirty word to you that would rather think that the world would be better with the blinds shut, but remember that your mother will kick you out of the house someday, so go get a job, and be part of the community and stop whining.

Still reading and laughing...JT

Getting back on topic, I would like to see the city built around Lake Erie college. There are many small towns that are built around a college and they are very nice places to live with many different things to do. If you get a good college population, the demand for other things will grow, and maybe help lead to the re-development of the downtown area.

I just hope that they don't dare to teach Spanish at Lake Erie. HA!

"If you were, you would embrace the fact that someone wants to be part of this great country and may have something to contribute." I have no problem with legal immigration. It is illegal immigration that is a problem. We cannot possibly accommodate everyone who wants to be here, they need to go through proper channels. Each country has an immigration quota, and mexico is far exceeding the total of all of them. Follow our laws right from the start or you don't belong!

Back in the early 20th Century the CounTry was taking immigrants from all over, mostly Europe. The people in charge decided to let so many of each Nationality in 1 million Irish.1 milion Germans 1 million Italians 1 million Hungarians, ect. Why? So no one Nationality would dominate the American Culture or Language. If they would have let only Polish people in say 20 Million and only Polishin any numbers. soon this country would have had 2 languages, English and Polish. If they had only let Germans immigrate in the early part of the Century, do you think they might not want to get involved in WWII. Give me a RATIONAL REBUTTAL TO THIS AND I WILL RESPECT YOUR VIEWS.

Coming home today around noon saw a wonderful sight!

Headed down the Main Street Hill and there was a crowd of kids and parents and I really do mean a crowd. The owner of Diverse Kuts was giving any kid going back to school a free hair cut! There were kids lined up all the way down to the bottom of hill. Kids on bikes, kids running and yelling and happy. Same cut for all; no styl'n, gel or special cuts; just a good hair cut that says I am ready for school. Everybody was excited and the barber shop was packed!

I applaud this business owner for what he had done for so many many kids and families in Painesville to get excited about going back to school. It was GREAT! Build a city on this..........

This city has many many problems. Go to the meetings in Willoughby,Kirtland,Madison, and Mentor and you will find out what city gov't is really about. It is a proven fact that housing developments cost public entities more than the tax dollars that they bring in. Where are the true business starts to give the tax "sparkling dollars and jobs" for this community? We sure need these!

As far as the Hispanic/Latino/Puerto Rico populations that seem to feel that they are imbedded in our community
to supposedly better themselves: Why do they not have SS #'s, why do they not have a valid driver's license, why do their children tell us as homeowners that they do not have to obey any and all rules/laws, why do they litter every street with their GOYA purchases, why do the adult males urinate every place that they feel they have to, why do the male children (with their mothers standing by) allow them to also urinate on every tree and tree lawn, why do they feel that at 5:00am in the morning or past 11:00 pm (in the evening)that they have the right to interfere with the cities ordinance regarding peace to others in their area. Why do they think they can trespass on our properties and do what they want to do - trash our lawns/intimidate our pets/pull out plants/flowers/destroy protective areas/chase and try to destroy innocent wildlife populations/deface any structure they choose - and on and on and on.
Open your eyes and see what is happening. It may not be in your backyard at this time - it will be there shortly.

Dream on and on, if you truly believe this forced environment is a positive asset.

An invasion - yupper, that is what it is. Learn how to live in OUR great country - stop trying to make
the USA your third world nation of poverty/ and stop your obsessive I do not know the language here (we know you do) speak it /know it - and you might just be more accepted.

“Wait until your Social Security number is "stolen" then we will see who is a bigot, racist.”
I don’t care who perpetrates a crime against me. I refuse to let an event like that turn me into a racist. My thought process is above that. I was raised differently than that and my education has taught me differently than that and my religious beliefs and my church are against that.

Yes that is a nice thought and synopsis of how it used to be done. You seem to reach back in to the past a lot for the good old days. Times change. Now we have to work in the present. So what if that is how the government handled it before? Back then immigrants from Europe had to come through certain ports. With Mexico they only need jump a fence on a very long boarder. No long boat ride, no dock necessary. I am all for regulating immigration but we do need to work with our current situation. We also need to recognize that not everyone with a certain skin color who speaks Spanish. Once we differentiate that some are illegal and legal I will even discuss with you everything the federal government should be doing to stem this problem.

My congressman would take offense to you attributing those views to him.
Please re-read that a few times so I don't have to keep typing it.

City leaders do not actively help the lawbreakers. Can show me a city leader who has helped someone forge a green card? If you look to be constructive I think you will find your goals and mine and maybe even some of his aligned more than you think.

I'm swinging with JT on this one....... good to see someone trying to get a breath of fresh air on here.

you're ticked about the council then show up at meetings, you don't even have to talk just show up. Lord knows if we will ever be able to hear it on channel 12. If you can't show up tell your council person you can't hear a darn thing.
and make sure you show up to vote too.
you can only complain if you vote otherwise keep moving

I am amazed that TERM continues to live in a town that he can't find one good thing about.

I think of the saying "if your not part of the solution you are part of the problem".

So TERM, other than this poor excuse for a blog site why not post for us how you are part of the "solution" for all the problems you point out?

the blog is an open forum to post observations and opinions....... be they good or bad.

Open discussion, not name calling or he said she said crap. Some things will never be proven ....... example, Murphy case. So unless you have a camera or DNA I don't give rat's pa-toot but other things like spending $10,000 on a fence for residents on Lucille is open for discussion.

Hey I am not thrilled my neighbor has a pit bull and a nasty mutt but it's up to me to put the fence up not the city. I know one person who sits in her front yard and waits for the school bus to drop off the candy thiev'n, curtain climb'n kids. She is a widow and loves the sound of kids voices and the school bus. Not sure she would want a fence. So not sure I would want city money to go for fences in people's backyards. Rather see a fence around Gristmill but don't think that is happening either.
So there ya go......... quite yer complaining and start discussing......... good things might come out of a good old debate.
Tired of reading posts from the knuckle drag'n, delete post'n, slander sling'n bloggers.

Where would the fence go from and how high, like 6-8 feet?

It does not matter, I don't want to pay for a fence, DO YOU

If it is useful I might. I don't want to pay for a fire department but I think they are helpful so I do.

TERM, I sat back and let this one go for a bit and got the reaction that I wanted. You see, I am merely a voice of civility and believe that you can attract more fly's with honey. My thoughts are that if the good people start to come out and patronize the local stores and eatery's then maybe the bad people will go somewhere else and be with their kind.

As to my comment about supporting a bad sports team...I was saying that I am there through the good times and the bad, regardless, that's it. I see the glass half full, and I know where you stand. And I guess my question is that if so inferior, why do you hang on so tight? I just wonder what would happen if you changed the tone of this blog and tried to use positive behavior for positive change. Just an observation from a person who does not get insulted by the insults. Have a great day> JT
