It has come to my attention some people on this site maybe using your blog. I.D. I found 2 posts signed TERM>> that I knew nothing about. So Batman, Karen,M&J read all sites as someone might be using your "Handle". If anyone knows how to remedy this please answer this post. I will not remove any even my own because if someone tells me the post on "this and that" on 6/13/08 wasnt theirs how do I know? Please no more unsolicited information I'll get my own. It was brought to my attention the "SELF_DEALING POLICY" was not on Painesville stationary, and not signed by anyone. In the future I will ask personally for information form the city.

If you are worried about someone speaking for you sign up on blogger. You will notice some folks have a small icon by their comment. No one can hack into your account.
In the upper right hand corner of the site you should see a "sign in" click on that. Just walk through the steps and create an account. You comment can still be anonymous if you like but you can also have an identity .......... like Madpotter or Batman or JT or Term

Who is in charge of channel 12? The last meeting was unmatchable!
Thank you for your question. The system we currently have of videotaping Council Meetings is antiquated. We still use VHS tapes. I am currently getting quotes for next year’s budget to upgrade the system and go digital, which would alleviate the concerns you have. At the last meeting the person who normally videotapes the meetings was out of town so we had to either improvise or not record the meeting at all. Minutes of the meetings are posted on the City website or can be emailed or mailed out upon request.

Thank You for your response about channel 12. The minutes are always a month behind because the minutes must approved by council.
If there is anything relevant to bring to a residents attention we must wait two months to respond.
So I am reading we will be waiting at least two years to hear anything on channel 12 until you get "quotes for next year's budget"? Are you serious?
Why is it we can hear channel 96; broadcast by school students but we cannot get a city of "professionals" to broadcast one city council meeting. This is outrageous! The residents have been asking for this improvement for years!

Ch 96 is digital, as far as ch 12 they do not have to put it on TV at all.
Bob Fountain missed Mondays Council Meeting, He also missed Thursday's Special Meeting He as at Work both Thursday and Friday. He drives a white Chrysler. What gives ? only sick 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. WE are watching.

i know millie and john, and they would not post something like that about mr. fountain, no matter how they felt about him. but its pretty obvious that he isn't concerned about doing his job. he can do his regular job, but is sick when the council meeting comes up?his car is at his job site every day. 3 seats open on council next year
Joe Hada's seat is pretty safe, the name Hada is well known in town.
Arlene Becks seat is pretty safe, she is well known and has a loyal constituancy.
That leaves one seat to really fight over. Abbey has stated she may not run again.
How to secure that seat?
1. Promise you would not renew the present City Managers contract.
2. Do everything in your power to change the city charter to allow citizens a chance to vote for a Mayor.
3. Have at least 2 town hall meetings at each of the 3 new elementary schools during the year.
4. No longer approve a summer session of only 1 meeting in July and August. We have a full time city here.
5. Not to vote on any Legislation that would cost the city more than $500.00 without 5 business days to review it.
6. Promise to cut the fat out of city hall
7. Promise every year to bring up a major project for the residents
of Painesville. A new community center.
8. Resident advisory team to review our utility departments to help council set rates and future upgrades.
9. Local law firms get city business, all use of outside law firms must be approved by city council.
10. Dont worry about being re-elected. vote your conscience,people respect your convictions,you really don't need the extra few bucks. Follow a simple rule; If you come across a person in the city be able to look that person in the eye and know any decision you made was for the betterment of Painesville.

First , mister 9 ways to get elected....NOT.
1. Don't renew city managers contract?, where do you think we would ever find a person with city manager skills willing to work for $115,000 and put up with 5 out of 7 council idiots, a County commission that practices putting everything in the county undesireable to middle class people in one city, Painesville, a downtown that will never be useful because the county owns half of it, a rich landlord (Osborne)owns one of the main buildings and charges rent like it is in downtown New York, one third of it is devastated by urban renewal, we have 50%+ of our residential is rental property and it is quickly turning to low income because 50% of the landlords are poor businessmen and think the more we have the better.
2. Why would you want a Mayor? A mayor is nothing but a popularity contest where the person who kisses ass the best for the majority of the population gets to run a city regardless of skills or knowledge.
3, Town Hall meetings?, what do they really accomplish?, most of you aren't happy with complaining on this site, you need to do it in public? You don't know how to pick up a phone or use e-mail?, you have to have attention by complaining in public?
4. The summer one meeting is in our charter, you don't like it during the next charter review get a hold of one of the citizens on the committe and let them know that.
5. So, they get the packets on Friday, they have all day Sat, Sun, Mon to review, what is adding 2 days going to do? Geez, I could back that one, HEY Council, go to your 2 employees and tell the city manager and clerk you want your packets on Wed. from now on, problem solved. See, thats the problem with the people on council now, they use excuses, and complain but have no clue how to fix things.
6. Who decides what is the "Fat"? do we cut recreation? how about we cut utilities so you wait longer for help, How about we cut inspection, then your neighbor can build whatever they want next to your garage. What is FAT to you is necessity to someone else, you need to realize in a public service setting you have to try and provide something for everyone.
7. Sorry, I personally disagree with another new community center, one more place we have to pay police to guard so it doesn't become a hangout for gang bangers, homeless, and druggies.Fix our people problem first, them we might be able to build one.
8.We already pay people to do that, what makes you think an ordinary citizen knows how to run a utility better than a manager trained to do that? Lets not trust your mechanic either, we'll have a citizen advisory committee tell him how to fix your car.
9. Do you realize how specialized law firms have become? has it ever entered your mind that we go outside the city so that we get the best possible law firm for our money? How about, the law firms in the city don't have the specialization we need? or they just plain aren't as good as we can get elsewhere?
That post sounds suspiciously like all of TERMS or Murphy's personal agendas all rolled into one and posted anonymously so it holds more weight.

Thanks for your post. It proves that some are listening and i"m sure you take the brunt of the complaints. Let's hope council is listening too so this can be corrected in the near future.
If you don't think you can find a "quailified" person to run this town for alot less your crazy. then again what makes the present Manager "qualified"?

What do Town Hall meetings accomplish? Go to one and find out you can ask a question without someone with an egg timer making sure you don't go over 3 minutes, unless your stroking someone on council than you can talk forever. I ask a question at a Town Hall meeting and I get an answer.
If its such an important job meeting twice a month should be the normal way of doing business.How many business days between Friday night at 7:00p.m. and Monday at 7:00p.m. If you just want people to just say "yes" to everything I guess its enough, when was the last time Abbey, Joe, Bob, or Paul ever said "no"to anything the city proposed? Nothing for the people just raises for the administration,. The only city in Lake County without a pool, but we have an electric, water,and sewer plants? Why have them if the profits don't benefit the residents? We already pay people to do that? Why is the fire hydrant in front of my house have a red band? and alot more in town also? They all went bad at the same time I guess I only hope my insurance company doesn't find out. Ask the city Manager how much she as paid in outside legal aid in the last 5 years? Want to bet thats classified?

I only post here to refine the arguments. I play devil's advocate because if Term presents some of the arguments he spouts on here about then his good ones will be discredited by the bad ones he throws up. I just want to help trim the fat to the good stuff. He has some good ideas but if you go over the top on some things then what is good and helpful will be easily pushed aside as coming from "that guy who said that crazy thing". However it should be noticed that I have not posted in a while in this topic so don't think I am one of the above anonymous posters.

there are plenty of ways to ask a question in this city. Write an email, a book if you wish, go on for hours and send it to them. They will answer. I can ask a very intelligent question with multiple parts in three minutes. What on earth do you want to ask that does not fit in 3 minutes?

Anonymous, have you been to a council meeting or watched it on tv? The public gets their 3 minutes, but council does not have to respond at the meeting and usually don't.
Ok so it has not been answered. What was the question? Is there a way to get it answered? I agree we should have a townhall meeting mixed in with the normal ones but right now we have to work within the system we have. That includes emailing them to get answers. We can complain all we want but wouldn't it be more productive to get the answers now and move forward? Maybe post it here, we have a group of caring resdients posting here who may be able to answer. I am trying to help, don't attack me. So... What exactly was the question you asked that didn't get answered? Or did you not even bother to ask yet?
