Honestly, it is more natural more me to hear and refer to "Huntington". But maybe down the road I'll get used to the other. Please post what fodor says here as I will be unable to attend. Looks to be a good meeting!

I liked the idea that schools are named after people and not trees. I guess I "respect" people more than trees. I will always have a Huntington, Lathrop, Hobart in "Paine Falls" and their is also room for a Marshall. Hope it doesn't cause any strain on anyone. Just been informed Mr. Fodor will not be attending Thursday's meeting. "New Huntington Elementary" on Elm St. Principal Joelle Magyar will be at the meeting to answer questions.

For some reason its very easy todouble post on this site, I don't know why.

Just noticed something going down Jackson St. this afternoon they have lowered the speed limit to 25mph. I wonder if they would post the change or just let the officer let you know when you get your ticket? I could swear they must have done it in the middle of the night. No matter schools open tomorrow with a lot of little people going to new places, Keep an eye out.

So Mr. Fodor bows out? with that report from the State I will be surprised if anybody shows up. The people in Painesville spend over $11,000 a year per student and here are the results. The LOWEST score in Lake County.
Glad to be out of the Mayhem.

Why should anonymous shut up? You can't handle hearing the truth. What is wrong with repeating what was in the newspapers? Afraid more people will hear what's going on?

Could the problems in Cuyahoga County with the Auditor, and County Commissioner, lead back to RP Carbone Inc. just wondering?

This is off subject, but I thought it worth mentioning. I was sitting at the light at St. Clair and Main yesterday around 5:45. There were a few people that appeared to be homeless sitting around the bench on the corner of the County lot. A big bald guy (about six feet tall and close to 300 pounds) was yelling at one of the people and was getting in his face. There were people standing around all over watching. I turned onto Main to head East, and the guy started hitting the man who appeared to be homeless. I called the police, but I don't know what happened. The aggressor was fleeing toward the square when I called the police.

I don't know if the aggressor was homeless or not, but they seem to make the City look pretty bad when they are hanging out all over the place.

Well, we have new schools with new names and a new grading system where students can't get less than 50%. With a score of 7 when most other area school received scores in the 20's, why can't we ask questions? I guess the 50% grading policy doesn't apply to Painesville City Schools. We even rank near the bottom when compared to Cleveland schools.

New school board members too?

Can't make the meeting tonight but after seeing the video posted above can someone ask what the impact on the schools has been? Does the language barrier drop the scores?

We have wonderful teachers but really need to shake the deadwood out of the tree tops. Somebody needs to start talking to the teachers!

And can we bring up the track team yet???????

I doubt the schools impacted the performance of our students yet - too early. Hopefully the new facilities will here soon and it will not turn out to have been a waste.

"I doubt the schools impacted the performance of our students yet"

You are right about this, but we are entering our 3rd year on the grading policy. I will follow this issue and continue to question whether the 50% grading policy is the best answer. Dr. Hanlon seems to feel we an only teach the students we send them and this is the best they can do with them. Not a very positive attitude if you ask me for a school superintendent.

Yes, And the head skillet is Millie. Stop in Perkins folks and take lessons on how to treat your help. She is a very caring person and uses her employees and customers ideas to enhance her skills. Our council should learn from her. Of course they do not know the meanings of respect or empathy.

Lets talk about the Track Team? what happened to them?

At August 30, 2008 at 3:58 PM , Blogger Sandy Miller said...

Yes, let's talk about the track team. The coaches from the track team were given the choice to resign or be fired. They, each and every one of them resigned. Check the school board minutes July.
Resignations: Phil Hogya, Asst. Track, Harvey; Mark Yocum, Cross Country, Indoor Track and Boys Track, Harvey; Jeremy Patty, Summer Weight Room, Head Wrestling and Asst. Track, Harvey;

This is catastrophic for the future of Harvey's Track Team. I cannot think of more passionate, postive person than Coach Yocum....... the guy bleeds red and black for this team. Coach Patty is one of the finest coaches I've run across.
Dr. Hanlon has made a grievous mistake in letting this group of coaches go.

They coached my kid for 4 years and I wish I had been at the school board when this mess hit the fan. There should have been negotiations, there should have probation, there should have been so many many solutions other than resign or be fired.
These coaches have kept kids off the streets, made sure they had equipment & everything they needed to win.
If I have an employee who makes a mistake, I don't fire them! Why, after investing time & money in that employee would I want them to resign or me fire them and then they go down the road to another company and take all the knowledge & experience I have paid for and use it to the advantage of the other company? In my opinion they did not endanger kids or themselves. Hanlon and the board should be taken to the woodshed on this one!
A passionate parent of a former Harvey track member.

I would really like to hear other parents chime in on this. I would go to bat for anyone of these guys.

Sorry to say I was not in town at this meeting and am so very sorry I was not. The charges are not in the minutes. The only thing I can find in the minutes are the resignations of the three coaches. I copied and pasted from the board minutes which are public knowledge. Nothing else is on the public record.

If anybody on the list was at this meeting could you please post what went on.
Mr Patty, Mr Yocum & Mr Hogya are still listed on the faculty roster and minutes state they only resigned from their respective track positions

I agree these are great guys. Would be nice to know the details of what happened and see if the action was proper. I bet it was not administration's fault but parents unlike us who asked and complained for them to be canned. Maybe they should have stood up to them, but I without more info I don't know.

now I am curious. Someone please find out what happened.

At August 31, 2008 at 12:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The net result is the school board comes out looking bad no matter what they would do. In today's world if they didn't ask for a resignation there would be another different group of parents and/or watchdog groups screaming about that.

When your caught in a situation like that?, err on the side of student safety, thats the only defensible position they could take.

At August 31, 2008 at 12:47 PM , Blogger Sandy Miller said...

Even with a kid on the team I was not aware of what was happening before I read the minutes and it was too late. This is not about the school board looking bad or good. This about a school with kids at risk loosing very good committed coaches. All of these guys gave more than a couple years to Painesville City Schools and because they slipped and yes it was a slip not a huge gapping mistake, a slip and they were let go. I am just saying there had to be better ways to handle this. When my kid was caught smoking she had a choice of three days suspension or classes at Lake East Hosp. She had a choice, she wasn't expelled. There again I told her lace up her running shoes and start running. I ran with her. We have no smoking policy or drinking at the house and yet there have been things that have happened but we handled it and didn't toss any of our kids out or their friends.
I would have not have hesitated to get up and speak for any of these coaches. I'm pretty sure there are many who would have spoke on their behalf. Creative thinking went out the window along with common sense. I really don't believe any students were at put in harms way on this one.

Probably the best way to get an answer to this is to go up to the Board of Education and ask. I can understand everyones position.

I also agree 100% with madpotter, but I know some of these people and they are an truly an asset to the school community. Everyone deserves a second chance. That said alot of people dont see it that way and I respect their viewpoint.

Karen, the guy made an honest post. He may not be in your tight little group that knows about it. Read above - no real detail of what happened have been posted. He may not be in your inner circle of term followers but he was not attacking in any way. A little defensive are we? So defensive must mean you are very vulnerable.
If I am going to call anyone a racist I will start with you. I have the same question he has so unless you have an answer...
