"FOUND OUT ABOUT YOU" gin blossoms
Sad enough to make you cry
All the lines you wrote to me were lies
Well let's give the State of Virginia a thank-you finally someplace that seems to care if their communities are getting hosed!
As we here in Ohio sit on our collective hand some places actually give a damn!
Tuesday night, city council voted 5-0 approving the letters from state leaders to be sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The mayor and other state leaders believe this could seriously financially hurt many communities throughout Virginia.
Martinsville Mayor Danny Turner continues to speak out against the sale of Peabody Electricity's share in the Prairie State Project.
That electric plant in Illinois is supplying electricity to 200 communities across the United States, five of those here in Virginia.
"Made wild promises. They made promises that the plant could be built for 1.8, 1.9 billion dollars," Mayor Danny Turner said.
Mayor Turner says things have changed since Martinsville signed into the electric contract 8 years ago.
"They dump their shares at 20 cents on the dollar so at 20 cent on the dollar our debt service plus compared to the assets makes this a very bad deal," Turner said.
Turner does not want Peabody Electricity to sell its shares below market value.
"We want FERC to examine the financial impact on the localities before they allow the sale to go through," he said.
To help create a voice, State Senator Bill Stanley and Delegate Danny Marshall have written letters to FERC or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in hopes they will prevent the sale.
Turner says the taxpayers could owe over $28 million if Peabody Electricity pulls out of the deal.
"The citizens would owe that much. They have signed a blank check over to these people. Saying we will buy electricity and pay debt service and in exchange it won't count as debt against our bottom line," Turner said
American Municipal Power which provides electricity to 130 communities disagrees with Mayor Turner concerns.
Leaders in Danville say AMP has assured them they will not be impacted.
Danville utility leaders tell WDBJ7; "Peabody Energy has the legal right to sell its share of the campus to a third party at whatever price it deems appropriate. And this sale by a financially stressed entity does not reduce the long term "asset" value of Prairie State."
Mayor Turner will be presenting this issue at city council tonight and then wait to hear on a decision from FERC.

Don't hold your breathe waiting for Painesville to join in!
I guess sweating profusely wasn't enough. Believe me as the world watches this the theory of 'American Exceptionalism ' is going out the window.
Christy will soon be out of his job as New Jersey Governor and probably would like to be Attorney General in a Trump administration? Great now every bridge in America will be blocked.
Honestly... can't wait for the next food fight!

I've never been more proud to be a registered Democrat.
Great we are holding the bag on this boondoggle and we even have the last remain guy who voted for this mess as president of council and nobody who reads this blog comments? This directly impacts your monthly electric bill! Yet this blog posts something on illegals or the Trump and you guys go ballistic. This city keeps voting in Hach and no show Fitzgerald and not one word is said? Really? When your electric bill is higher than your rent mortgage mpayment maybe you'll get it. its like watching my dog when I yell SQUIRREL,
Term, somehow if you could work Trump or illegals into the AMP, Praire State mess you might get a few people to notice. Sheesh!
One thing you can count on in a Republican primary they all speak the truth about each other!
Now we are on arguing about spray tans.
Thinking about it this might be a smart strategy? Lets all talk foolishly and not debate the important items.
A couple of things you can count on Americans will die in another wasteful war financed on borrowed money. Obamacare, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid Education will all face cuts and a healthy tax cut for the wealthiest amongst us. Forget deportations, walls, trade wars the tax cut is what's important . You think Obama added to the deficit?
Here is just a paragraph from an article written November 26, 2014
Five Years On, Millions in Costs From AMP’s Cancelled Coal Plant Still Hang Over Towns and Cities
The link to the article is: http://ieefa.org/amp-costs-millions/
Much is at stake here because AMP insists that its member communities pay for the costs of the Meigs County debacle. Here’s a breakdown of the bill:
1. Stranded costs: AMP has given the communities various options on how and when to pay the stranded costs, which it says total $113 million. Some cities have simply written checks to AMP. Painesville, Ohio, for one, has sent AMP $2.1 million and Front Royal, Va., has paid $500,000. Some municipalities, like Cleveland, is letting AMP add a surcharge to other bills to cover a portion of the Meigs County overruns. (Cleveland has also said it will delay full payment until litigation is settled). Martinsville, Va., agreed to a “stabilization plan” in 2012 in which AMP was supposed to collect for the Meigs County stranded costs by charging the city extra for its electricity. That plan backfired, however, because Prairie State plant were so high that all of Martinsville’s reserve funds were eaten up by that, and Martinsville canceled the stabilization plan in April of this year. No one knows how much member cities will owe when all is said and done, especially if Bechtel wins in court. But the numbers are big, especially for towns that are already struggling to pay for electricity. The two largest participants in the plan were Danville, Va., which was in for 100 megawatts, and Cleveland, which had subscribed for 80 megawatts. In October 2012, AMP put Cleveland’s Meigs County damages at $7 million, and in 2013, AMP’s fiscal officer told officials in Galion, Ohio, that their town was on the hook for as much as $1.1 million.

Council never talks much about AMP contracts.
Always amazed how many people read the internet and believe everything they read. People do realize anyone can make something up and post it on the internet, right?
5:21 I don't know if you are aware but the City of Painesville a few years ago sent a $2,100,000.00 check to AMP-OHIO for their share of stranded costs to Meigs County Power Plant that we received absolutely NOTHING in return. That was your money.
5:55 I'm amazed at how many people never question the things going on around them? Please feel free to enlighten us?
Term what's John Murphy doing the other day I voted for him for county commissioner but I have seen no signs or interviews in the paper. What's the story?
I'm amazed you haven't packed up and headed to Virginia. You keep dredging this old news up over and over. It has been explained to you several times. Nothing left to do but for you to move to VA. You are the one keen on the new CM, what has he done for this mess? Nada. And he wont, he's too busy upsetting the surveying company and possibly running them out of Painesville too.
1:15 Old expensive news. That over the years will get more and more expensive for the resident's of Painesville.
What exactly has been explained? How a few stupid people that are now gone bought into a dumb power plant?
Any CM was far better than the last one that's what I was keen on. And what company is that?
12:35 Yes John is running for a seat on the board of county commissioners. I believe he's taken a new ploy into this election. It's called the Tom Fitzgerald Strategy. Don't say, do or give any reason for people to vote for you. Don't even promise to show up. Then let the person your running against spend a ton of money on yard signs ect. Like Kevin Malecek has he will lose in the general due to Dan Troy's love of that Mexican Maticular Card.
Trust me John has poured his heart into this campaign!
You do realize the two people you claim that should shoulder most of the blame for Prairie State. Rita McMahon and Joe Hada have at one time or another been Painesville's persons of the year? Since leaving office?
I don't understand how anyone with an ounce of brains can be be happy with what the candidates of either party are doing in the race for the White House.
IMO, both sides are simply embarrassing.
I can only imagine what the leaders of other countries think of all of this.
It is a far different way to run a campaign than I was taught in school.
8 more months of name calling and it will be over.
No wonder we are going backward as a country.
Burgess and Niple - he had words with them and they are NOT happy with him. Anytime he doesn't get his way he yells and storms out of meetings.
2:56 Burgers & Nipples? All I will say about that company they have made a ton of money off the City of Painesville during the McMahon era. There was a time we paid them to act as our city engineer and that wasn't cheap.
It would be interesting to get all invoices during that time period.
If people only knew of some of the going's on around here!
Burgers and nipples.....oh that's good!
I'm sure you could make a topping for pizza with that using modified pepperoni.
So a company made lots of money during the former city managers time - What's wrong with that? That's what companies do. They advertise, survey and get paid a good amount for their work. I see nothing wrong with that, why do you? The problem was about Mr Carson and his temper tantrums, yelling, name calling and stomping out of meetings when he does not get his way. That's what the post was about. Not invoices, making money and knowing a secret you claim to know. Your response makes no sense.
And the comments to the word Niple are just juvenile.
One question as far as John Murphy's concerned. What is his stand on the Mexican Maticular Card? For or against
Who would know and who would care; he didn't take the time to fill out the survey for the NH. (Questionnaire unanswered) Couldn't take the time to do that why waste a vote?
Harassment, intimidation threats. All city department heads need to be on alert. Contact city council and an attorney if need be - Carson's at it again. What is going on at city hall and why cant this man be stopped?
12:23 Yes they made a lot of money at our expense. Interesting how certain people that have sat on council from one time or another some city business seems to end up in a spouse of someone on council?
As far as City employee's treating city resident's rudely? Myself for the most part have found them very friendly and helpful. I have witnessed what and how they at times talk to others. Maybe Carson is attempting to save a sinking ship?
11:29 I guess I can speak for John on this. As we have spoken on the subject numerous times. I expect him to do everything in his power to get rid of that card. He has explained to me in the past that he views this card as completely useless.
It upsets John how Malechek as well as Moran will not stand up to Troy over this matter. Be assured John would make this card's history as well as a priority.
Your 1227 comment makes no sense. Someone said how poorly the city manager behaves and conducts himself and you turned it around on the city employees treating residents rudely? Had nothing to do with the comment. So because he cant control himself the rest of the city should act like him? He would fire anyone who acted like he does. But still council allows him to carry on his rein of terror.
4:54 I know you will tell me I'm wrong but your comment's always at least to me come from a disgruntled city employee . Who might now not like the way the new CM expects you to do your job? That's my point.
12:23 Niple, Nipples what's the big deal? Everyone I know male, female has two? My dog has six.
Hi term
This is completely off topic. Sorry about that. But I'm curious as to the timing at the bottom of each comment. Does that indicate when the comment was left, or when you approved it for posting. Could you tell me?
Time Tracker I haven't a clue? I have tried toset thetimer bt have failed. I have no idea what will show-up as I post this comment it is 12:30PM
Time Tracker Pacific Standard Time?
That makes sense. Google is on the west coast. Must be google time.
