"I CAN'T DRIVE 55" sammy hager

Take my license and all that jive

Attended  Councilman DeLeone's Town Hall last evening. As I have mentioned Chief Anthony Powalie  made a presentation about crime in Painesville. He also shared with us a video tape taken in Painesville just a while ago about a resident that wanted to commit suicide with a shotgun or being killed by suicide by cop. The standoff lasted 45 minutes and in the end it ended peacefully with the person presently at Laurelwood. Now at no time through out the incident did the suspect point his weapon at police or anyone else. That's probably the reason he is still amongst us today. It did show the pressure police face everyday. At one time after numerous times of officers telling people in the house to go inside and lock the door he did step inside his apartment. As a police officer what spit second judgment do you make?

The Chief also believes to be looking for Officer body camera's as to protect the officer as well as the general public. This is something the administration and council should actively work on.

We viewed different pie charts and numbers comparing Painesville to Mentor as well as Wickliffe. The point was to show residents Painesville is not deserving the reputation as a crime infested area.

On another note myself and other resident's brought up our concerns on traffic issues in town. By the Chief's own admission claiming it is a low priority to him. He would rather have officers do community policing than writing traffic citations.

I have never thought of Painesville as a very unsafe place but at the same time I view what goes on our street unsafe. Speeding ,Red light infractions no stopping at stop signs as well as enforcement of load limits to name a few . Now the chief when asked if we had a problem with people not having driver's license and insurance, his statement was if you are found without a valid driver's license  you are issued a citation and your car may be towed. They do not issue citation's for not having insurance? He also mentioned look we have made the city safe because most of you are only complaining about traffic infractions.

As I left the meeting I came to understand why some of the issues I worry about don't worry other's.?

What I have learned today, Trump is untouchable in New Hampshire, Rubio repeats himself oover and over, Christie goal is not to win primary's but destroy  Rubio, Cruz is a Pussy, Bush just figured out how this all works and Kasich  is looking for the handle to the door to exit the clown car.
Burn with free stuff! Woman don't like Hillary?

Your car MAY be towed???
Why is that an option?
Having insurance is a legal requirement just as having a license is.
Would the police allow you to drive away without proof of licensing? I sincerely doubt it.

Pray tell, what is community policing?
Is it not the responsibly of the police to make sure that all laws are followed and not just the ones that the Chief thinks are important?
I can assure you that they could make a fortune for the City by ticketing people who run red lights or don't stop at intersections. OTOH, that would make them get out of their car and do some work.
We have probably 14 to 16 police cars parked behind City Hall at any time. I am assuming that there are others on the road. Time to put officers in them and make the community safer.

1:19 Look say there's a licensed driver in the vehicle. I understand much of the chiefs logic but he did mention he doesn't believe a police department should be a money stream for a community like Linndale.

1:19 An example of community policing . Instead of officers writing traffic citations on Richmond St. They get out and mingle with the people and let good people know they are around and the bad people know there watching them.

Term
Was the "licensed driver" actually driving the car?
If they were not (and I am guessing that is what you mean), what difference does that make?
Being "in" the vehicle, with a license, does not make you the driver.

I agree with the Chief in that the police should not be part of a cities operating budget.
However, there is a reason for the laws that exist.
They should be enforcing those laws.
It does not take long for people to get the message that they shouldn't run red lights and so on.

Other than driving around, what are they doing while on the road?

I have no problem with the police chiefs approach. To be quite honest I am sure that situations of speeding in the city but as someone who live and works within the city I see and experience very little of the speeding but rather get frustrated more often than not by how long it takes to get anywhere in town what with the traffic lights and people who do not even drive the speed limit and sit at intersections too long.

True story. A line of cars was parked along a street were there WAS NO space to park, blocking part of the lane. This went on for weeks making legal drivers straddle the yellow line. One ticket was all it took. POOOPH! No more illegal parking. The word got out.

Also, P'vile doesn't have that many police cars. Unless they are saving the worn out ones for the next Blues Brothers Movie.

chief maybe short sighted? When people realize traffic rules are not being enforced it causes them to take more liberties? In the end his officers spend less time writing tickets and more time writing up accident reports.
Instead of sitting in schoolyards onm their cellphones maybe a ticket or two would help?

Yep, just sweep it under the carpet, let the bad guys go. No problems here right?

I suspect if the police are letting unlicensed drivers go, it started with all the illegal Hispanics in town. Remember how bad Judge Cicconetti felt for all the "poor" illegals, not being able to drive legally and all...

I wonder if they let the Hispanics go, and grab the Whites and Blacks.
