" TAKE IT EASY" eagles

By now most of you have heard about the 12 Marines killed in a training exercise in involving two helicopters. These men's lose to our country are as valiant as combat troops fighting in a foreign land. The will be missed by family and friends. The pain of loss is no less. Thank these Marines for their service in protecting all of us.  God Speed.

Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy

I attended the Council work Session Wednesday at 5:30 and was impressed with the agenda I will share the best I can.. No talk of Chili, Brownies just a meeting to figure out where this council wants to take our city in 2016.

Councilman Fodor brought the agenda of the meeting to council members. All department heads were in the room and no comment from the public was allowed. So I'm flying by the seat of my pants. They never shared the paperwork.

Brain Storm;

Communication with the Community.
Establish Communication.
Assign items of interest.

Capital Projects 2016

Roads
Storm water
Bank St.
Electric and Service department facility upgrades
Parking Garage
Water intake project
Vehicle replacement schedule ( safety as well as non-safety)

Monthly Department reports to council
Community Reinvestment Council
Professional Development of council and members.
Strategic Planning ( What is the difference between this and a comprehensive plan?)
AMP-OHIO Prairie State monthly report
Ohio checkbook.org
Comprehensive zoning
Channel 12
Damaged street curbs
City wide Streetlamp replacement
What to do with Painesville's Power Plant
Sewer relining

Housing Task Force
Vacant property ordinance
Sidewalk replacement
Ward IV property development
Development of the former hospital site.

Safety Committee
Review professional development for police on deescalating confrontation and review the cost of body camera's.

I am sure I missed some.

Now nothing was solved but Councilman Fodor brought forth items Painesville will be facing in 2016. If even a few of these things get done it will be a great improvement.

Please feel free to comment on these issues.

Hue Jackson has recently been hired as the new Cleveland Browns head coach. Mr. Jackson was the former offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a head coach for the Oakland Raider's for one year and was fired after going 8-8 in his one season there? Hell if he goes 8-8 in Cleveland we will probably name a bridge and a couple of schools after him!

It was a work session? Yet residents were not provided an agenda or allowed to comment? Seems to be headed in the same old same old!

I love the first 2 items on the list; Communication with the Community and Establish Communications. The Citizens of Painesville need greater transparency with regards to the operations of our City:
1. Ohio checkbook.org should have been implemented months ago. What's to discuss? I will never vote for any City or County candidate who does not endorse Ohio checkbook.org
2. City of Painesville use to post Departmental Monthly reports on the website. They haven't posted any monthly reports since August 2012. Why not?

Hue Jackson will have the honor of working for three of the most inept NFL owners.

Here is the first of the "communication" items, START enforcing regulations already on the books. Many of these are there to make a city more enjoyable and desirable to live in.

1. Jay-walking, how many others are sick and tired of almost everytime you drive up or down Richmond St. you have to stop and let some fool walk right out into traffic and stare at you like they are daring you to hit them?

2. Garbage cans, I could swear some people on my street leave them at the curb permanently and just carry bags out to the street.

3. Garbage Cans again, landlords who have multiple tenants and then only have one service, result is garbage everywhere by garbage day.

4.Littering, This city is disgusting when it comes to litter. I know it is hard to control but how about some more garbage cans, some education by the schools, I would even support a tax on fast food and convenience stores to pick up all the litter their customers create.

We have enough ordinances on the books if we enforced them we could up the desirability of this city quite a bit.

3:061 (1)The question was will going to Ohio Checkbook be a cost to the city? $30,000 was mentioned? I don't believe that figure.
(2) past department reports were pretty much a joke. Did you ever see any negative items? Let's take a monthly report from the service department Ever see on Martin Luther King Day we had to call in plow drivers at double time and a half. Costing in some cases over $70.00 per hr. or $560.00 for an eight hour shift. No those items are never explained to the public n departmental reports. Ask a council person what it cost the city to operate on MLK day.
7:13 It might have been on a list but there was no discussion.
4:44 AMEN
7:06 I believe our safety forces have enough to do. The city probably only gets involved if another resident complains opening up a whole new can of worms.

6:36 Your right that's quite a feat. Hope it doesn't leave a scar.

Is 7:06 serious? A tax on convenience stores and fast food places because their customers might litter???? Let's try to chase those businesses out too??? Why not go after shoe stores for jaywalkers or radio stations when people play music too loud? You can't be serious!

PPD is out and about daily its their job to be visible, drive around to Police the area. So why cant they issue citations along the way? I always thought when laws are broken that's what they are there for isn't it? Otherwise, how difficult is it to send an email or notify the proper person to take care of it? Oops, I forgot, they are short handed and over worked too. So keep on keeping on passing the buck and putting this city in the toilet.

Citizen communiction? Really? Haven't we been down this road over and over? In the past citizen committees have been smoke and mirrors for the administration and council to do what they ultimately wanted to. People were hand picked to stay in line with views of council and the administration. You have a council who thinks this place is delightful and could use a reality check on what to do to stimulate a dying community.

You are absolutely correct about someone needing a reality check and someone to stimulate this dying community. I thought that was what we pay people to do. Just what has been done here to improve this city. We still do not have nor probably never will have a grocery store. Someone was heard saying no need for one, there's a Giant Eagle just over the tracks. But how would the convenience and drug stores survive then? Our schools, which is a big selling point- well someone is happy with a 60% graduation rate that is up from 50% the year before. Entertainment? Nope. Drugs, hookers and illegals, though there are plenty here.

Our safety forces would have had more to do if the City didn't call out the plows on MLK day. $560 for 8 hours of plowing is probably cheaper than sending even one person without insurance to the hospital via PCFD ambulance because their car skidded into a pole.

ADAM 4:24 Please I wasn't complaining about calling the plow drivers and others out. My point is would it have shown up in a departmental report? That's all. The reports I have seen never seem to represent any negative actions of unusual events. Every has been honkey dory.
People just sometimes wonder where the money goes.

People just sometimes wonder where the money goes? People shouldnt have to wonder, there should be a monthly report right down to the penny.

5:22 That's why it's so important the city and school administrator go with the Ohio checkbook program. As taxpayer's we should demand it!

Look we get you are pro-Ohio checkbook. As it was explained it was expensive and may not happen. But whats wrong with putting out a paper copy or a post on the city or school website once a month? Lets pretend it's 1970 and we aren't high tech and put it out there old school.

We have a treasure for both the city and schools which are paid good wages why would we pay the state to do the same job. That seems to be a total waste of money also it takes control out of the cities hands and gives it to the state. What's next the state sets the budget or even more frightening the states turns it over to the dummies in DC. Be careful what you wish for

At January 30, 2016 at 11:36 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

10:37 The state has no magic wand. As we have learned in situations like Flint, Michigan sometimes the state doesn't know best. We have some city officials as well as school board members that want to make things better, they just receive a lot of pushback. And little support from the community.

How much would ohiocheckbook.org cost the City of Painesville? Painesville Schools? and/or Lake County? It sounds like a great idea.

8:53 I guess that depends on who you ask? At the workshop a $30,000 was thrown around.
