"YOU JUST KEEP ME HANGIN' ON" the supremes

You don't really love me you just keep me hangin' on.

Who or what am I talking about?

Well it's our old friend 239 Mentor Ave.

Last year the state land bank was willing to provide funds to raze this old home. Many in the community including myself thought the house should get a reprieve. So another house to be razed was chosen.

I guess many of us felt maybe that house had a Guardian Angel out there somewhere that would be willing to spend the time and money to raise her from her fate.

Seems no one is interested and in the past year the property has become an eyesore as well as being vandalized and sometimes occupied be vagrants and drug dealers making that house a nuisance and possible threat to the neighborhood.
That home is also next to the Metroparks Corridor  and we know bad things can happen there.

Before Hach or whoever is awarded the contract to demolish the house Historic groups should be allowed inside to see if there is anything valuable to save, certain windows or woodwork?

It would have been nice to save  239 but from what people have told me neither the Real Estate Company or the Bank seem interested in finding a solution. With that thought in mind it will be interesting what will become of that property?

I will forward this request to state representative John Rogers executive director of the Lake County Land Bank.

Let me understand this, a guy who looks like he has a squirrel living on top of his head has the gall to  question a woman candidate about her looks?

So now you believe what nearly anyone with knowledge of real estate was trying to tell you last year. That property has been available for years, some properties are just not worth saving (i.e. the old American House Hotel as well). That's why after years of vacancy it comes time to repurpose the properties. Raw land is far more attractive for development than having to buy a property and be responsible for removing a building.

So the squeeky wheels got the oil then dropped it. You were one of the biggest mouthpieces - how dare the city demolish this house? Oh the history, oh the drama. Didnt think if some wanted to buy it they would have? You wasted time and maybe money now, round two and no one wants the house. I dont have a crystal ball but I knew way back how this one would end.

7:58/5:33 With all your knowledge? Repurpose, raw property? Well presently we have plenty of raw property here in Painesville. Hospital site, Harvey site, Hotel site plus a lot more empty raw land, we just ain't no one doing any developing. Wonder why?

I believed 239 deserved a better fate, sorry. Now let's raze the house and see what the grand plan for that property will be? According to 7:58 can't wait for people to clamor for that property when it's bare?

After Saturdays game Arkansas coach Bret Billema should have spent less time bad-mouthing Ohio State and worried a little more about Toledo?

If you are so darn concern about it to keep rallying for it BUY IT yourself. Do something rather than constantly belly-ache and spew about other ways 'things should have been done'. But you wont because its easier to sit back and complain about everyone else than fix it yourself. Raw property, who's fault is that? A good fight was put up for the hospital - bottom line hospital was leaving come he&& or highwater. Who voted for new schools? who was told we MAY salvage for repurpose then demolished anyway. When one buys into government BS this is what you get for believing it.

8:04 Didn't want it . But does that mean no one else isn't interested?
Raw Property? A fight was had it save the hospital but not the building. It could have been transformed into a VA Hospital and used as a nursing home for Vets. As well as the Administration Building for the tri-county VA.
Schools? State St. should have been the home for Head Start and Cedarbrook transformed into the Painesville Senior Center. We just didn't use or heads.
Odd how fast the schools were torn down? No chance for a Charter School either.

Any idea where the senior center will be moving to?

Of curse you didn't want it and YOU thought someone did? It was clear NO ONE wanted it back then now NO ONE Still. How much money did this little fundraiser fiasco of yours cost the city?
Would a should a could a - The schools made it clear they could not be refurbished so what entity would buy them knowing how bad they were and how much money needed to bring them up to par. Again NO ONE Did the VA approach anyone? Did head start approach anyone? Did the senior center approach anyone? No-so why now years after the fact do you think this could have happened? Hind site is 20/20 Time to let it go and move forward with a new plan.

Well according to some on this site, were you promised a senior center? Did you check it out before you moved here 60 years ago?
Seriously is there a need for a senior center?

"The schools made it clear they could not be refurbished"

When was this? I don't recall ever hearing this argument.

As was stated, and you seem to have missed it, the schools were gone so fast that there was little, if any, time for anyone to get title to them. We were told that the new schools were an all or nothing proposition. With that we were told that the old buildings HAD to be torn down. The VA or Head Start had no chance at all.

Why?

I suspect it might have been because the BOE and/or Administration didn't want anyone to discover that the building were in good condition. My job took me into schools all over the Greater Cleveland area and I can state that the building in this City were as good as could have been found. My feeling was that over the 60+ years that they were standing, the maintenance people actually took pride in their buildings. I can assure you that they were in very good, if old, condition.

Additionally Term raises a point that had not occurred to me. If the building is gone, there would be no way that any sort of charter school or private school could take its' place.

Be careful what you wish for. If that house is completely dismantled, the lot may not be rebuildable due to current zoning restrictions, ie new foundation has to be x feet from sides of lot, street, etc.

House may end up torn down and then become an empty lot that doesn't get taken care of. Would any of you be happier with that?

4:44 No problem with our planning commission and city council there's seems to be enough room to at least put a trailer in? Really as far as I can tell no one on council lives within a half mile of that property. And yes it ain't on Levan Dr..
