" LABOR DAY 2015

It's the time of the season

Well I guess Labor Day is the last hurrah of summer, the start of football season, the time when baseball tells us to wait until next season. Kids are back in school, fall is approaching very soon.

But Labor Day is the day we salute the American workers because without them not much could be accomplished.

The American worker get's hit from all sides. Foreign competition, Dwindling job opportunities,  labor unions becoming a thing of the past.

And through it all what who made America great?

What made the 'middle class'?

I hear politician's telling me free markets are the greatest thing for the American people? Putting many of them out of jobs. These same politicians tell us America should be the strongest presence in the world. Yes, America must lead and at the same time they encourage American business through their policies to abandon the United States  with not only jobs but to relocate headquarters in foreign countries to get out of paying taxes in this country?

Just a wild idea here but if you want to build F-35, sail aircraft carriers back and forth through the Strait of Hormuz along with providing the best trained and equipped Army. Hey, we are the worlds police force. well that responsibility cost's big bucks. That along with an industrial base to equip these  people we call our Armed Services.

American taxpayers have always funded these things and supported a strong America.

How much can we piecemeal away of this country before we are just a shell of our former self?

All though Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders aren't my first choice for President they do bring up a good point. America has been bought and sold out by people who care more about themselves then they do this country. Yep the system is rigged.

On Monday salute the American worker who in their  best interest will again put America First!

Over the holiday I ended up walking past Harvey High School and noticed something that has been really starting to bug me the more I think about it. I had noticed throughout the summer that the flower beds in front of the school were overgrown with weeds and the grassy area (what there is of it) looked very shaggy). I noticed this weekend that it does look like the beds have been weeded but the grass has still not been cut and in general the front just looks let go. There are clumps of grass in places that are over a foot tall, wonder if our city inspector has sent any warnings to the school district.

We have all these brand new schools and yet it seems we cannot even maintain the grass. What message is being sent when the schools don't even show enough pride to cut the grass and put a good foot forward when one first sees the school. If we don't have the personnel to take care of the landscaping then perhaps the school should form a student group to take on such projects.

I noticed the grass looked terribly long on the first day of school, too, and I agree it sends the message to kids and parents that the place is not to be respected. If "they" don't care enough to take care of the lawn, why should "we" care about it?

Besides a student group (I can imagine all sorts of howls about liability), how about volunteers from the community? Or would the unions howl about workers being displaced?

Hmmm? 4 administrators in that place, making approx $100,000.00 each and none can bend over to do a little gardening?

The same can be said for heritage. If the outside looks that bad, imagine what the inside looks like. Also, the playground at chestnut is broken in several areas. Sad. Those are so expensive and much of it is roped off and unusable.

I drove past Harvey twice today and saw a gal mowing the lawn.

Guess the Superintendent must read the blog, too bad it takes something being posted to get a simple thing like grass cutting accomplished.
