Large raid of some sort? Lexington and Reed Ave. Anyone have a clue?
*****************************************************************
It seems like only yesterday I didn't have a clue
Then in Saturdays Wall Street Journal I read an editorial by Conservative columnist Peggy Noonan and life was made very clear for me, living here in Painesville
Basically she mentioned that certain rules are made by safe people. An example immigration. A person or politician living in expensive or gated community could very easily claim that that a woman on N. State Street in Painesville is a racist, redneck bigot ,for her remarks about illegal aliens. That person living in a nice neighborhood protected by their status in life. Whereas the person on State St. has to live with the reality of what a dozen people living in a single family home, loud noise, vandalism, cars parked all over the front lawn. She's not a racist but merely a realist.
This person prizes order because they can't buy their way out of disorder.
I guess perception is no where near as important as reality?
In other area's of Painesville seven council people with full knowledge with all the problems associated with building single family homes on 7,500 sq. ft. lots with 60 foot frontages which has been so unsuccessfully proven in Heisley Park decides that the development about 500 feet to the east Windmill Estates can be built with the same rules in place and I expect they must realize the same problems? So in Ten years when people living there ask "what were they thinking" Now the answer. The builder, developer will be gone only the city will be around with some on council (hopefully) claiming we had nothing to do with it. Perception of the development was great but in reality it didn't work out. Anybody remember the B.S. about Painesville soil?
You want to know why? None of those seven people will ever buy a home in Windmill Estates so they only view it as an non-concerned outsider. Who gives a damn how long it takes EMS to get to Cobblestone I don't live there.
When a homeowner comes to you with rental property where three lots don't even meet the standards for one R1 Some on council vote to give the property owner a variance? Why? Because they don't live near there and it doesn't concern them.
And Painesville biggest lie. We will invest over 1.4 million dollars in grant and general fund money Down on Main Street and this will build a diverse growing downtown. Seems to this day that lie is being still told by some on council.
No maybe a perception of one, but sure not a reality.
In Hockey the first use of a testicular guard, the "Cup" was used in 1874 and the first helmet used was in 1974.
That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain might also be important?
9 Comments:
The word racist is thrown around at the drop of a hat and in this community by one who doesn't get their way from a white person. A person knows whether they are racist or not so please stand up to this, this bullying needs to stop.
Did you buy a or rent in Cobblestone? Did you do your homework first? Did you ask where the nearest police, fire, hospital, urgent care, grocery shop are? Were you promised these when you were thinking of moving there? (is there still one at Brentwood)If not That's your problem and no one else, you failed now stop blaming everyone else and move if you aren't happy. And finally if Ms Mahon were still here maybe things would be moving along instead of the roadblocks put up by Mr Carson. He cant get along with anyone in or out of the city. Contact ODOT to find out how abrasive he was with them when he decided it was their responsibility to take care of what is the city's responsibility. You catch more flies with honey not vinegar.
12:06 Local governments collect taxes. That somewhat makes them responsible for what goes on in there community.
Sorry the only thing moving if Ms. McMahon was still here the only thing moving would be residents.
A lot of things happen in this City that would NEVER be permitted on Levan Dr.
The R1-60 zoning is a great example.
TERM. Peggy Noonan is right on the money. What she wrote has been true for ever. Edward Kennedy never had to live in anything but a mansion. Yet he championed this stupid way of thinking and brought us bill after bill to help bring this country to its current immigration lunacy.
Standards are good things. But try to uphold a standard for education, citizenship, decency etc, you will get shouted down by idiot politicians and the low life they rabble-rouse.
5:45 Lots of people grew up in Mansions, two running for President presently Bush and Trump for examples.
Whereas President Reagan and Clinton didn't. I don't know if your theory holds water?
Franklin Roosevelt was said to have betrayed the wealthy?
As far as the Kennedy's that family gave three sons to this country, a fighter pilot, a President and a Senator my belief they had their hearts in the right place.
politician's don't set standards? Society does.
Our very own Howard Metzenbaum was a soap box liberal but was never poor a day in his life. How could he possibly know what being poor was like?
John Glenn went from being a military retiree (with the pension that comes with that) to a multi millionaire after serving in the Senate. BTW, he wasn't responsible for the huge campaign debt incurred while running for the Presidency. funny how that works out.
People like this only pretend to care. What they really care about are votes that keep them in office so lobbyists can live their pockets.
Really the same with most any politician.
5:45 here.
"Politician's don't set standards? Society does." Amen to that.
Hold water? Research the record. It used to take some time to be accepted to enter this country. There were standards, laws and common sense. It didn't change to what we have now, by itself.
You re-printed Noonan's story, I just put a Kennedy in there as an example. His record of legislation is also why I chose his name. Because of what you have said so many times in the past, is why I rail so hard on this. We don't want families in Painesville who allow their children to vandalize, destroy, create noise and whose parents are as childish at their children. Yet people who DO live in mansions force us to accept section eight and mandate that our neighborhoods mix in low income property or loose federal money.
You re-printed what Noonan said. I agree.
The DMZ around Elvan Drive is shrinking every month. What is it now, about a city block?
Also, If a family won the lottery and bought a home near the Kennedy compound, played loud music and let their Pit Bull loose a couple time a week, what do you think would happen? It would end so very very fast.
What recourse do we peons have?
11:46 AMEN, Have you ever wondered how a wrestling coach went to Congress and presently has millions Denny Hastert for example?
Gov. Voinovich brother built E-Check stations?
