" WHO ARE YOU" the who

Celebrate Labor Day, Summers doing an encore.
Council Meeting will be Tuesday evening Ten items on the agenda. Check city page.
I have been told another city storm water meeting will take place at Elm St. Elementary School Tuesday September 13,2011 at 6:00pm. This is for all North end residents and is open to all residents of Painesville. Want to bet we will hear about another study?
On this Labor Day I pose this question Who's statement is this and do you agree or disagree?

In our faith tradition, defending the human dignity of every person, born and unborn, includes promoting economic justice. This justice places the good of the person at the center of all economic activities. It stresses that the economy exists for the person, not the person for the economy. It challenges society to measure the moral effectiveness of our economic practices by how well they strengthen families and provide for the poor and vulnerable.

This social doctrine has long recognized that all people have the right to economic initiative, to productive work,to just wages and benefits, to decent working conditions, to organize and join unions or other associations, and to engage in collective bargaining.

At the same time , this doctrine promotes mutual partnerships where both needs of labor and the needs of management are freely and openly acknowledged and addressed. It challenges both unions and management to work for the common good, to make sacrifices when required, and to adjust to new economic realities.

Any guesses?

Sounds like KJenkins is making waffles? She knows who wrote it but doesn't know if she agrees or disagrees with it? Just what we need on council more wishy washy.

Oh good lord - I know if I agree or disagree with it. The point was I did not offer my opinion on the statement, merely answered Angelo's question on who wrote it. People need to stop reading into things.

I don't make waffles.

Sorry, somehow I was under the impression that Painesville was part of the state of Ohio and we would be voting on SB 5?

SB 5

Look what is happening in Illinois. Could it happen here? Yes, I know Painesville is in Ohio, but Ohio is in the United States just like Illinois.

A decision made by Gov. Pat Quinn may leave thousands of state workers without a job by the end of the week.
The cuts are coming in the face of a budget deficit that doesn't leave enough money to pay the workers, the governor says. Quinn also plans to close a prison, juvenile detention center and homes for the mentally ill.
If no cuts are made, several agencies will run out of money by spring, Quinn says.
"We can't spend money we don't have," Quinn said Tuesday.

The state's largest government employee union, AFSCME, promises to sue if the layoffs are made, much like they did over blocked pay raises.

So tell me about unions again.

Look 9:29 If SB 5 stays law or doesn't, "magic money" will not fall out of the sky. You will see the unions get collective bargaining but not extra cash comes with thwe vote. I am worried that we won't have people in place that can tell someone NO! Now I will have to worry about binding arbitration? Sorry I believe in Unions but don't believe government workers have the right to strike.
Watch out again for union endorsements they come at a price.

How about this

Put me in charge . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes, we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

This should stir things up a little.

Yep, government workers aren't suppose to strike. How about Government GM and Government Chrysler since they took stimulus money? They agreed not to strike??? Ford didn't so they can strike. Wonder what the other union members will say about that.

Not all government workers have the right to strike. I work for the state and our OCSEA handbook prohibits members from walking out or striking

Once you lose something its hard to get it back. I feel the government unions will not take pay raises during these tough times (Light plant already took 0s for the next three.) They aren't stupid and know the public will have a fit. However, when times get good again (even in 20 years according to you pessimists) public employees deserve the right to negotiate raises. If Term can obtain the facts,I'm sure under Rita's regime, bargaining or not, there haven't been much more than 1% for rank and file city employees in the past several years anyways. If you call that eating high off the hog then I'm sorry you didn't get your highschool degree, college or learn how to type a decent resume. YOU choose to stay at low paying jobs by lack of ambition. I get 3% a year where I work and that's just cost of living anymore.

Basically, SB 5 only deals with benefit side of incomes. Doesn't limit rights to negotiate raises. It allows the different levels of government to shop for the best deal for health care for instance.

To the person that wanted an answer from a candidate. It sounded like an ultimatum to me? This blog. doesn't belong to her or anyone else. Now lets say they give an answer and I don't post it? Would it be that persons fault? You gave this site your vote. If you want to know where a candidate stands on an issue call them., or email them. It works most of the time. That's another story.
Please no ultimatums to anyone.

To 1:16
You are right maybe pertaining to the state and benefits. Except in painesville the city is self insured for medical. They give you three choices of crap to choose from. It's not a long drawn out thing as far as war room negotiations. You get what HR claims is the best deal they can find. Now here's the new kicker...Employees are now forced to have a TASC card. This account is loaded up out of ones paycheck. At the end of the year if you aren't sick, the money an employee pays in goes back to the city and doesn't roll over. Yeah they can negotiate medical? NOT

At September 9, 2011 at 10:28 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 4:49 you sound like a city employee.

1. You get three choices and you complain about that? Things that make a taxpayer go Hmmmmmm

2. You get a TASC card account and again complain about it? I can tell by the way you refer to it that you didn't pay any attention when it was explained to you or you didn't go read about how it works.

So my money goes to giving you two nice benefits and all you can do is call them crap and complain? Things that make a taxpayer go Hmmmmmm

Term please can you update us on how the meeting on tuesday concerning storm water went, I wanted to go but missed it

At September 14, 2011 at 4:43 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Pretty much as the others. One big difference is the city has spent 100's of thousands of dollars on the retention/detention pond ,new storm sewer's and thing aren't working properly, along with any residents south of transit seem their situation has also become worse. standing water, flooded basements. family rooms it seems everyone is fedup. I believe the city solved a big problem where they found a break in a storm sewer that was causing a sink hole and that is now been corrected. Most residents left this meeting not hearing the answers they were looking for. If this is what other neighborhoods can expect we're in trouble.
To the residents of Hine and North south of Transit I was told back in the day there was a small creek or swall that ran east and west to Skinner and dumped into the Grand River over time anmd development that swall no longer exsits and might be whats causing the standing water in that neighborhood?
