"COUNCIL MEETING 08/15/11

Just so we all know.... Monday, August 15, 2011 will be this month's Painesville City Council Meeting. Over nine items are on the agenda... from zoning issues to 2011budget adjustments.

Also, Tuesday August 16, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Morley Library will be the Painesville Oversight Committee's monthly meeting. Seems we have a host of items to consider: all candidates (council and school board) as well as any Painesville residents' concerns. Anyone with an issue should try to attend this meeting.
We need as much input from people as possible as well as people interested in joining with us to make Painesville a place we can all be proud to call home.

We should have a web site for the POC up and running by then. Also, I will report anything of interest that happens at the council meeting.

*************************************************************************************
Just so you know AMP-OHIO closed the deal with First Energy on the Fremont Gas Power Plant.
85 of the 129 AMP-OHIO members have signed on to the deal. AMP claims a $500 million dollar saving over the life of the contract.
Painesville council voted 6-0 against joining with councilman Fountain absent.

Term, will you invite Mr. Grippi to the POC meeting? I sure many people would like to meet and thank him.

Mr. Grippi as well as any candidate for office is welcome at a POC meeting. The door is aways open.

Tomorrow is the parade for the Lake County Fair. Bear in mind many candidates may be in it, myself included, and will be unable to attend.

Also, Sandy did create a POC blog - http://painesvilleoversight.wordpress.com/minutes/

Last month's meeting minutes have been posted there.

KJenkins will be in the parade! Why weren't you at Unity in the Community this weekend?
Andy Flock who is running unopossed showed up, another parade K?
I also believe it is in poor tatse to hold your campaign fundraiser at an establishment that has caused problems to your opponent. If this is thev kind of leadership you will bring to council keep it!
Grow-up young lady we have enough rudeness on council starting with Hada.

To 8:57....who caused who problems? ...your take is Hal is the innocent party...many others would take exception to that. And what, exactly, is wrong with where Ms. Jenkins wants to hold her fund-raiser...it's a legal business (which Painesville doesn't have enough of these days) located in her ward. Your chastisement is reminiscent of some council members' treatment of other residents...why don't YOU grow up and let the young lady conduct her campaign as she sees fit.

I find it odd that you attack me for not going to Unity, but fail to notice every other Painesville event I attend. I had other obligations, and was unable to go this past Saturday. The fair parade will be the first, and only parade, I will be participating in.

As for the use of Jackie's - I have several reasons for using that location, none of which have anything to do with my opponent's problems. They were able to provide food at a cost that is affordable. They have an area for entertainment. And they have the space to accomodate the number of people we hope to have attend.

It is unfair to fault me solely for utilizing and supporting a growing establishment in Painesville, and I hope that most people will see that. Instead of seeing rudeness, see it as me taking an opportunity to support Painesville business - because at the end of the day, that is what Jackie's is.

I for one would have probably had the fundraiser at the same place. [K I haven't run a sucessful campaign yet] People can be the judge if it was in poor taste. I will remind those of you that before the last election for ward II Hal and his family attended council meetings with their vote Werner T-shirts, which at the time I thought was a little "tacky". So lets question Hal's taste also.
KJenkins All I can tell you if you come to this site you are going to be questioned from time to time. Personally I would rather know your views on the present Painesville administration and to grade them. I'm really tired of hearing about living, working and playing in Painesville or talk about intregity, education, committment and what ever. What is important for any candidate to give are pinpoint answers instead of generic quotes. What will you and the other challengers bring to the table?
Candidates can pick and choose what functions they want to attend.
Please enough of this you were not here but you were there. It doesn't help Painesville.

I feel people running for office should not be in them, it ruins the fun.

Yeah, I'm sure every candidate loves riding in a car waving at people they might not know and throwing candy at kids. Now that's my idea of an evening of fun?

To 4:54 and Term

Some people may only hear or see a candidate at a parade. Sad thing is that most don't even pay attention or care let alone vote. Most don't even know who is their representative.

Term - What did you think of the issue regarding 800 non-conforming properties and their lack of protection? I thought Andy brought up a very good point. It took how long just to get a vote on the 15 on Chestnut? How long will it take to address the remaining 785? I realize some of the non-conforming properties may not be homes (business, commercial maybe?) but that's a lot of people and places to go through BZA and Council.

At August 16, 2011 at 9:02 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

What kept coming to mind was the fact that if your house caught on fire and you couldn't rebuild it onit's present site. What should scare us more what if a tornado should hit Painesville such as the one in Jolpin Mo.? On top of losing everything you now are in a legal battle to get back on your feet. I don't understand the reasoning if the city FIRST let you build on non-conforming property how could they then stop you from rebuilding?
Yes K there should be a blanket ordinance to protect homeowners, councilman Flock is right.
It also amazed me that the city can accuse a homeowner of stealing electricity and levy a fine without do process of the law? Show me that in the charter?
If you don't pay their fine they cut your services?

At August 16, 2011 at 9:33 AM , Anonymous KJenkins said...

My biggest concern with that was that they did the repairs and never allowed the homeowner to know about it beforehand. At the very least a notification should have gone saying that this was damaged and they were fixing it at the rate of $100. And the comment was made that if you informed them ahead of time they would skip out? Well then they wouldn't be paying their bill then either, right? That's no reason to not tell them beforehand. I'd be furious if I found out after the fact that work had been done on my house without my knowledge.

What you youngins'don't understand its all about control nothing to do with anything else. A homeowner brings a group together and whamo here comes some kind of inspector. Pay your money or will shut you down.

KJenkins they will tell you the meter belongs to them. Heard about a resident that didn't give permission for the power plant to go on his property to install a few meters. Little to say but the Bear took them down and brought the meters back to the electric plant. Ever hear that story?
The city seems to make up rules as they go along. Maybe Mrs. DiNallo's plan to have a citizens committee isn't that bad of an idea.
Joe Hada has know Mr.Ware for decades for him to sit at a council meeting and not defend Mr. Ware about electricity thief told me alot about how Joe Hada must think. Or was there another reason?

At August 16, 2011 at 12:15 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have known both Mr. Hada and Mr. Were for quite some time. It would be stange for Mr. Hada not to stick up for him? What was the other reasons you mentioned?
Was the fire chief there?

At August 16, 2011 at 1:33 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Mr. Hada might have afew reasons.
Don started those Cedarbrook stormwater meetings?
Mr. Hada mentioned at last nights council meeting that residents have phoned him or spoke to him in person and he metioned that Mr. Ware had told these residents about a rumored Goldberg Development on the property behind Cedarbrook? [I have been told the same as Mr. Ware]
Finally Mr. Ware supports a candidate in ward 3 that is not Joes chosen one? Joe wouldn't even sign a petition to let Mr. Tibbits run? Don has spent time introducing people to Mr. Tibbits?
I know one thing that person didn't steal anything!

At August 16, 2011 at 1:51 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know Mr Were (is that a correct spelling?) personally too and that man is as honest as a summer day is long. He got active in the community getting people together and informed about what is going on in his neighborhood.... and then after all these years as a resident...suddenly his electric meter needs repair. It's a little too coincidental for me. And if such a repair may become necessary for any resident then why is it that people are finding out about it for the first time now? I'm going to call it the way I see it...another punitive measure against an educated resident. What a shame that elected officials have to stoop to such an obvious and low tactic in order to try to keep a lid on things.

Mr. Fountain has missed how many meeting so far this year?

If I am following this correctly, Mr. Ware had to pay a 100.00 fine for his electric meter? What am I am missing here?
I remember Mr. Ware saying at a public meeting, the city has spent a lot of money on his property for some flooding issues. This is correct, so if the city has bent over backward to help him I don't see this as a personal attack on him. However, I am offended I was not offered that type of help for my flooded property.
PS I know many city residents, past and present yet don't understand why ask if the fire chief was there.

Mr. Ware was charged $100.00 without due process? What crime was he charged with? Who are those clerks at the utility department to accuse anyone of anything? Who is responsible for the meter the city or the property owner?
To understand this correctly if someone get's mad at a neighbor they could cut the seal and twist the meter and that person is charged $100 by the city? Where is that written?
Mr. Ware was a safety director with Avery-Dennison for many years the fire chief could have possible said something about his character. [I'm only guessing on the fire chief comment}
I have also learned that in the past Mr. Ware was a police officer in Perry, many years ago. How much electrticity can a widowed elderly man use? The last time I can remember someone stealing electricity it was an electric plant employee who knew what they were doing. Ask the city manager.

GOOD MORNING, FRIDAY- AUGUST- 19-2011. As i read this morning news herald front page article OFFICIALS SEEK EMERGENCY FUNDING FOR RIVER ROAD. A good action. I wonder what is wrong with our elected officials in PAINESVILLE city. Why don't they take action to repair the flooding problems for the residents. The resident have had flooded basements for years. I think this is unacceptable. I have been at the conncil meetings asking for help, but I leave with no satification. WHY DON'T WE HAVE A EMERGENCY MEETING and fix the flooding problems in our city. You are right. Someone at a utility department can hit you with a $100 fine or what ever they call it without due process. If you believe a crime was committed don't just go to the penalty phase first.
This smells and if it's not meant to scare Mr. Ware off maybe someone else in the future?
I'm ridiculous I looked at his bills and have known this man for over thirty years. Only in Painesville you must prove your innocense to unelected officals.

K Jenkins is not a Hada pick/influence for her reasons for running for Ward 2 as previously rumored. K Jenkins has a Masters Degree in Public Administration which is more than what the CM or any other Council Member has.
I know her family and they are very educated and strong. None of them are pulled in by the tricks of public nor private pirates as their education/common sense puts them in the category (much needed in this world)that presents their own minds - not mind-set of others. "K" is a leader and not a follower or a rubber stamp individual. I worked with Mom Christine at Standard Law Enforcement Company. My daughter "L" and "K's older sister "V" started school together in Mentor. No one could ask for a MORE profound family that is always concerned about the plight of others over themselves.
ANON 8/15 8:57AM - your comment is stringed on the unimportant because what was next to Hal/wifey in the past was a Mexican issue: Hence, his platform against them. I know the owner of Jackie's place and he is a very intelligent and down to earth individual!! This owner works with everyone and just wants this business to flourish!! D'Abates across the street is a former business that is decaying. Where is Hal's concern about that?? The present owner of Jackie's made an offer to restore this building to positive productivity and was turned down because the owners wanted way too much for the family name and decaying structure.
"K", you are absolutely what this city needs to change the Guard of deception/untruths/and present lack of regard to the citizens. You have the leadership mind-set to go forward and resolve the totally Broken status of the City of "Pain" up to and including the neglect towards what was here and made this city great! New is okay; but, to ignore what has always been here is a total travisity of the Oath of Office recited by Council.
"K", I totally believe that your future as the Ward 2 representative and also as a positive to educate and show the present Council that their ways are not the walk to success will start the revolution to the comeback of what made Painesville so profound before!!!!

Hey Ridiculous....very apt title for your post....some things are jsut as they appear...an elderly widower, never in trouble, exemplary work record, lived in the same home for 51 years...and then became politically active in his local community. After a life of putting one foot in front of the other, he is accused of stealing electricity and summarily fined 100.00 by the powers that be. He doesn't have to be a saint for anyone to see that this is just wrong on so many levels.

And I sure would hate to be your friend...I guess if I didn't see you for a week or two you would look at me differently. Or if I needed you to back me up somehow you'd find an excuse not to. What a pal. Hope, for your sake, you never need anyone to stick up for you.

I know Don Ware some. Don't like him, and don't trust him. However, to think he would be out tampering with his electric meter to steal electricity is ludicrous. This Painesville administration has a long history of doing whatever backhanded thing they need to do to shut-up the citizens and - funny thing - Ware starts to speak out and all of a sudden his meter is tampered with and he's the one in trouble. I'm not buying it - not for one minute. I hope he can sue the crap out of the city for false accusations. And - what? - the meter was already off his home and gone without him even being able to see it? McMahon/Hada etc. are completely untrustworthy, and this is a prime example. They've got to go. But everyone needs to be aware that they lie during elections to keep themselves and their buddies in office. They usually do it at the last minute, so their opposition cannot defend themselves. We need to be prepared for that and to tell our neighbors. If Ware goes to court, maybe everyone that the city has retaliated against can go testify for him.

I can't imagine that anyone would try to tamper with their meter to try to save on electric bills, but I guess it takes all kinds, so I suppose it could happen. Who would be able to say with certainty, though, that it wasn't a neighbor stealing electricity while you are out, and then trying to hide it. Unless you had it on film, it would be mighty hard to blame it on the homeowner. I have heard of people stealing other people's cable. And in this instance, the city better be ready to prove that THEY didn't do it. As far as I'm concerned, if they can't prove that THEY didn't do it, or that a neighbor didn't do it (sorry neighbors - I don't think you did it), or that some unknown entity didn't do it, then there is no case.

Very nice Charterlady, It's been said numerous times over that Bill Horvath is a direct influence on J. Jenkins and her running of Ward 3. What a nice tactic for a resentful anger old man that has a passion of hatefulness for the man that beat him last election. Jackie's can always be rented as a hall or have 200 unannounced bikers charity events anytime, but its roots will always be bar and trouble which has already been proven with current chaotic incidences.

so we should judge all the candidates by who likes them? I guess that rules out Hach (Delamotte), Murphy(Becks), DeLeone (Hada) and god only knows who backs Tibbets. But I'm sure their bad news too

Why can't anyone have an open mind these days?

The best thing a candidate can do is look a voter in the eye and tell them where they stand. An elected offical should be able to look any resident in the eye and not back pedal or lie.

This isn't Murphy, but I am one of the people who supported Hal 4 years ago. He fooled a lot of people but, in the end, it is still 100% better that he is in that spot rather than Horvath. It was the first step in wrangling control of this city out of the hands of McMahon, Hada, etc. Now we have to leave him in that spot until someone better than Jenkins comes along for that seat, and elect people who are not in with Hada, etc. for the other seats. It's just really important to keep Hal in that seat for now. Very important.

For every-one here leaving and reading comments...k. Jenkins is new blood in this city....(something we need)The current councilmen im sure do the best they can but the city still has many issues.. Still have not seen many positive changes yet...So current council members must be the answer? Right. Now the issue on money well spent. Time to start drug testing people using welfare and government aided programs.. Also, who's idea was it to spend money on paint to paint the crosswalks red. Now that was money well wasted...
Why is everyone having issues with Mrs. Jenkins having a benefit dinner at Jackie's... Please let me know why this became an issue, It must be a pretty important issue

To the senior community that is discriminating on someone of a new generation, we need new blood, it drives this country, state, and city...
Mrs Jenkins needs to be the future of this city, a lot of complaints about how the city is broke, illegal immigrants are a problem....Look at what the other council members have done, i see the same problems not fixes, so new blood, new eyes, new minds is what this great city of Painesville needs......
