"RESIGNATION" brad mehldau

Well, the Painesville city manager informed council that we have 2,000,000.00 in "stranded" costs due to the Meigs County failed power plant. As you probable guessed... no-one stepped up to assume responsibility. As a matter of fact we now want to participate
in another 35 year take and pay contract on an AMP-OHIO Fremont gas-fired energy plant. I have already mentioned that anybody on council who would vote for this should be recalled.
Now the whip cream and cherry on top of this sundae; an $8.00 increase in water bills per meter along with the promise to not have to pay for a 4% increase next year.
Don't look at it like a flat fee... more as a membership fee in the Painesville City water system. Like a Sam's Club membership.
2 million in higher electric fees and $96.00 extra a year for water system improvement.

Much more happened, but if council and city management were in private business and had these kinds of results.... someone would be expected to resign.
Let's start with our City Manager who has been telling half-truths to council members and citizens about this screwed-up AMP-OHIO deal.
How dumb do they think we are to come up with another deal after the bath Painesville took on the Meigs County deal?
It's time for her to move on... she has caused enough damage here.
AND take the two Joe's with her!

Amen, Term. It's time for McMahon to go. That's enough. And then I would like investigations into everything that has happened since she has been here, and this would involve her and all her buddies, too.

Did Andrew flock vote for water increase?

Andrew proposed a 9% water hike for the first 5 years then hold steady for the next 10 council rejected that idea. Flock voted for the rate increase I believe because he had promised people on Elm St. that no matter what the water line would be replaced. Watch the council meeting.
There are many serving on council who have very little backbone or an independent thought of their own.

Nobody mentions how much this is going to put the screws to businesses. I understand the $9 per household can be burdensome, but businesses are looking at $600-$1,000 per year. This will have to be passed on to customers, or it will just be another reason for businesses to pack up and leave the City. When will people stop voting for Hada? This is insane!

Well its not as bad as other water providers. Aqua-Ohio charges almost $480.00 a month for a 6 inch meter Painesville $179.00 Council did a good job of protecting businesses. What about the 75 year old lady living on Social Security that hasn't had an increase in a couple of years already paying the minimum charge and popping her with another $8.00 bucks from $10.00 a month to $18.00a month? Water costs should be based only on the amount used.

When push came to shove, Andy caved.

nuff said! Watch the meeting before you overreach. I guess 6-1 would have had it better. Residents were promised a solution.
You can't fight city hall alone where was your support last night?

The question isn't should we fire the city manager but how?

who made the motion on the increase? Lori, Hach?

At June 7, 2011 at 3:57 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I believe the administration's first proposal was a flat $10.00 per customer. Jim Fodor's plan I believe was the $8.00 residential meter and a higher charge for commercial users. Overall the homeownner in Painesville saved $2.00 a month along with a promise to resind the 4% water increase next year.
I will be comparing our water rates with the county's to see if we're in the ballgame.

I have attended many council meetings and last night's had to be the most frustrating. The city manager's nonchalant answers about the 2 million owed AMP-OHIO. Joe Hada's cavalier additude? The $8.00 fee was a done deal before anyone walked into the council meeting.
Never mind the passing of Windmill Estates I soon expect the city to be included in an EPA lawsuit with Rick Osborne.

Term, In the future whenever Andy Flocks complains about something Hada, as he has done before, will say to Andy "Well you voted for it!" And he did! As for my support, I will do my supporting or nonsupporting next Novenber.

I just got to watch part of the council meeting. Watching Fodor try to figure out, and then say you can't really figure out how many people are in a dwelling based on square footage (as far as knowing what to do with water increases). He's hypothesizing that a smaller apartment might have less people than a house. Well, I own a house, and I live alone.

The solution should have been to base it on usage. When Andrew Flock (thanks, Andrew) was propsing a 9% increase based on usage, they decided that it would not raise enough revenue. But then why in the world would they not just go with a larger percentage of use increase? The flat fee isn't fair and it is too much. I have one person here, and I will end up paying as much as someone with more.

And now they want us to get into a 35 year gas take and pay with AMP?! And AMP is, of course, saying we have to decide by the end of the month. If this goes through, then McMahon and everyone who votes for it have to go. What can we do, Term? Can we fire? Impeach? Can we call for an investigation to get us out of the deal if they do it? This is insane. We cannot get into this deal, and these people have to go. How can we stop this?

LOVED the city council fireworks! (News Herald video) Mr Flock....you are NOT alone and it is greatly appreciated by us residents when you stand up to the powers-that-be. We need about 3 more just like you.

The painesville land annexation will be a great place for federally subsidized residents. Note the city manager says around 19:40 in this weeks video that land developer has buyers to develop the property. Note, the language, this is not home owners, or a market that will buy a home.

I believe that the land annexed in this discussion will be the new home for federal subsidize residents.

The city of Paine administration is part of this ponzi scheme, they are allowing this to happened under the guise of economic development. This is criminal. It is not transparent, and should be stopped.

Look at what this type of leadership has done to the country overall, it has destroyed our chances to compete and created an environment that will not enable vibrance or innovative economic development.

Anyone with capital now, has the ability to think. Any thinking person would not buy a home on a swamp. Not only is this development not good for the environment it is pretty foolish.

I am considering starting my own business, I want to incorporate as a small business. Painesville is my home, and would be good place to start that, however, NO WaY would I even think of incorporating in Painesville, unless the city management as it is current, is removed.

8:27 Last time I looked our government wasn't subsidizing $200,000 homes. It does seem a little stange that all this construction is taking place with the cuuent economic climate?

I am just forward thinking here, I have no proof, just a hunch. Look at how low income housing got a face lift in Tremont, in Cleveland. 15 years ago, looked like military compound from the 30's. Now the homes or apartments look like townhouses.

All I am saying is that, in the future, if no buyers take on the debt of these homes, maybe the federal government can utilize them.

City management in Pville might be thinking this as well. But of course, this would require transparency and free flow of information from city manager throughout the city. But we know she is not capable of this type of management.

Thanks for this forum to express democratic dissent.

4:00 AM I am watching what other AMP communities are doing. Many believe this Fremont plant is a ruse or a cover-up for the AMPGS in Meigs County. There will be people in other communities doing everything from recalling councilmen to filing lawsuits, maybe even getting federal or state attorney generals involved.
In Painesville maybe a charter change on the amount of exposure the city council can risk without a vote of the people.

Term, 1:16: Thanks for the info. I am all for calling any attorney general or anyone in authority who can start investigations NOW. And thanks for watching what other AMP communities are doing. That will help us figure out what to do about all of this.

TERM, PLEASE KEEP THIS PROBLEM GOING IN YOUR BLOG, WE JUST CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE.

People have the right to enjoy whatever music they like but they don't have the right to impose it on their neighbors and I'm glad that our city understands that. I've been a pest about the noise this spring, but the dispatchers are always friendly and courteous and I appreciate them, too!

EVERYONE PLEASE KEEP CALLING THE POLICE ON LOUD NOISE, IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT CITY WIDE, AND YOU DO NOT NEED TO TELL THEM YOUR NAME.
THANK YOU

Arlene Becks can do a charter change and Arlene for Mayor. She can drive this city to excellence!

This topic could use its own thread, that's for sure. On my street I don't know what's worst - the thuglets bumping (c)rap music and hiphop as they drive by, the Mexicans blaring their stupid circus music, or the hilljacks who like to blast country or rock music and shoot off firecrackers.

Respect and consideration for your neighbors, folks, if you have any class at all, it's not that hard.

Call the police. Keep calling. And you don't have to leave your name, that's true, but you're more credible if you do. It doesn't hurt anything.

We don't have to be miserable all summer - we can do something about the noise!!!

4:52: Arelene Becks for Mayor? Arelene Becks can lead this city to excellence?

I DON'T THINK SO.

Arlene had her chance at city council. She liked to hear herself talk, and she liked to be on TV, and that's about it. She was stuck-up, rude and uppity. She treated the citizens with disrespect and talked down to them, and she couldn't get herself out of a paper bag, let alone run a city!

Let's not go THERE again.
