"COUNCIL MEETING 01/18/11
We will have a presentation Cathy Bieterman, Economic Development Coordinator.
Can we at least get a Rally's, Sonic?
The rest of the meeting will be a Ordinance on how we will pay off our notes,LOANS
We will reissue a LOAN $226,000 to pay off the loan of $234,320 for financing of the Renaissance Business Park? Does that mean we only paid off $7,320.00 of that loan last year? Hope we get an explanation.
Ordinance to reissue a one year loan coming due on March 12,2011. This reissuing of this loan is for projects completed in the last five years. Resurfacing Argonne Drive, the new apron for the fire department, ect.
I get the impression our City Manager pays off one credit card using another take your VISA and paying it off with your Master charge, all legal but I wonder what all this reissuing costs us in interest?
If council approves another loan we will repave Hartshorn Dr.
I wish the City Manager would replace the word NOTE with LOAN in all her ordinances, even I don't think the word note sounded like debt.
Every loan passed. Tune in to watch Councilman Werner ride a dead horse!

Yes, Term, I think that one of the things that we need investigated first is the refinancing and refinancing and refinancing that goes on this city. Does anything ever get paid off?
Note is an old-fashioned term that has been replaced by loan. Back in the thirties and forties home mortgages were called 'notes' and were due in full in five years....also known as promissory notes. That term has largely been replaced by 'loan' which has varying terms for repayment.

Regardless of the terminology; YOU OWE THE MONEY TO SOMEONE ELSE.
Refinance and refinance beyond the terms of the original loan agreement just means that YOU will pay more years of interest. If you increase the principle owed, at the time of refinance, that just adds more dollars that you must pay-out.
Common term: PAYING DEBT WITH DEBT.
Manage your money (our money) correctly. Address immediate needs.
Put the "I want extensive Growth" on hold until you can properly insert this into a truly managed budget and bottom line without borrowing/extending such an extensive amount of money.
If I paid-out as much interest and principle as this city has over the years since R.M. started her Micro-Management, I would have resigned because I took advantage of all in this City and abused the bottom-line. Specifically what everyone pays into the City checkbook: and the lack of micro numbers provided to City Council that would have Educated them as to the current and immediate future.
When you are appointed and micro-managed: WOW - the numbers are juggled to satisfy the supposed
Leader.
To 5:39...you are absolutely right! Debt by any other name is still money owed above the services/goods you have received.
I just watched the council meeting video (wow, they uploaded it quickly!) and was happy to see the residents of 569 S. State come together against a common problem they all have: their neighbors to the north. I urge anyone who wants to get a v-e-r-y clear picture about the situation to view the police reports for themselves. I can say with certainty that Patrick - the owner of Jackie's Bar and Grille, is telling the truth about the police reports.
Further, of all the crime issues in Hal's ward, you'd think he would be more "deeply concerned" with the repeated police calls at the duplex at the northeast corner of S. Saint Clair and E. South, or the homeless camp set up behind Blackmore's Locksmith.
You'd think he'd be more concerned about Coe's vacancy or the fact that High Tech has been considering moving to warmer pastures.
You'd think the sad state of South Saint Clair Street between Washington and Walnut, or the Latimore Hill would be more problematic to him.
Or, if they're so concerned about the safety of children, the jaywalking students along Liberty and Walnut, who ignore motorists in the area repeatedly.
But no, these issues, which affect many residents in Ward 2...they don't even begin to compare with the serious and dangerous (but somehow very law-abiding) bar right next door to his house.
A councilman with a personal agenda/vendetta cannot possibly serve in the best interest of his constituents. The sad thing is, Hal ignores his own bad press instead of using the criticism as a barometer for his job performance.
Also, with regards to getting a Rally's or Sonic...
With the car cruise being a pretty steady draw on Friday nights, a Sonic would be an excellent addition to the city. Cruise to Painesville, show off the car, drive over to Sonic for a shake and a burger. Of course, that's only one night a week, so would it work the rest of the time?
My guess?
Yes.
For example, I have driven to Streetsboro a few times just to eat at Sonic. Many friends have done the same. The food's not particularly awesome (just 'decent'), but it's a fun experience nonetheless.
Adam, I was about to start a post about Councilman Werners action's at the last two council meetings you seemed to have answered it better then I could.
What was refreshing was seeing how many councilpeople checked out Jackies on their own.
Hal stepped into it this time.
I hope the school union employee's are watching?
I believe Sonic would do a study and find that it would be far better to locate anywhere from Painesville TWP to Mentor or farther West. One event for a few hours on a Friday night only through the summer??
A great idea but in reality, why would anyone want to invest in Painesville now? Another thing to consider, does Sonic have a Mexican menu? If the makeup of the schools are any indication, I doubt there would be enough business here.
Even Hal should have pity by now and put that dead horse named Jackie to rest.
ANYONE BUT HAL OR WILD BILL
ANYONE BUT HAL OR WILD BILL
Agreed.
.
finally time to watch the council meeting and looks like the flying monkeys have hijacked the station ....... again
People told me 5 police cars an ambulance and fire chief vehicle rushed up the driveway of Jackie’s New Year’s night to arrest a resident in the 569 apartments because they were intoxicated. They said children were in the apartments.
Does Jackie's own the apartments? If they do do they have control if the people living there celebrate on New Years Eve? Hal does not want Jackie's there period. That's the problem. Was the bar there before Hal?
What next? NS Railroad needs to reroute trains. God forbid if by a stroke of luck a business moves into the Coe property. Hal believes he's special because he is Ward II councilman, that and 9 bucks will get him into a movie.
The owners of Jackie's are leasing the property, and thus have no control over who rents the apartments behind/next to them.
I think I'm going to clear the driveway and have some wings at Jackie's for lunch.
Finally made a quick visit to Jackie's last night (Thursday) and was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be back. I guess we owe the owners a huge 'thank-you' for their great contribution to Hal's non-election campaign.
Jackie’s does own the efficiency apartments in the rear, if you listened to the council meeting those two tenants represented Jackie's bar. Cursing, rage and domestic violence was witnessed by bar patrons that night of new years from those apartments. Bad choice of people to represent Jackie's they look like trouble. I believe hal had purchased the house sometime ago. The rumor in the neighborhood years ago was that building would be a bakery or family restaurant not another Mike's biker bar.
I heard bad things about that owner. Neighbor’s on that street told me he lost his job at the painesville city power plant do to stealing and rigging up his own electricity for free at Marcia's Place. I also heard there were problems with utility poles with arching transformer catching on fire.I'll pass on going to this Jackie's not really a bar person anyhow.
I'd vote for Tony G. doesn't he live in our Ward 2? Hell, I'd even vote for Bill H. Hal has to go. I drove over to Hal's Concerned Citizens Meeting last week and no one was there not even Hal. What gives?
To 3:45 PM....I checked the auditor's site and the same owner/landlord owns Jackie's bar and the apartment house behind it. Jackie's doesn't own it ...someone else does. And as far as the stealing of electricity...that was a previous owner...not the present owner of Jackie's. And rumors are just that..rumors. Sure, another bakery in town would be nice, but that site has historically been a liquor establishment of some kind. And why don't you just check it out for yourself once...I'm sure you would be pleasantly surprised. Please don't let other people do your thinking for you...go find out for yourself.
6:19 Hal has moved his meetings to the Morse Ave. Community Center. The school buildings are to be closed at 6:00pm daily. Another way the board and administration seeming to keep residents away? Remember the promises made before the building levy something about being a magnet for the community?
Let's not even joke about Bill Horvath coming back into office. That guy was the worst. I can't believe we finally got him out in the first place. The only good thing about Hal being in office is that it got Horvath out. Horvath is thick as thieves with McMahon, Hada, etc. Let's not go back there.
I watch the last council meeting that nothing could be built on the Millstone property. That is an out and out lie. If Councilman Hach can deposit tons and tons of dirt in his back yard, why couldn't a developer do the same at Millstone? In Painesville its always who you are, and who you know.
How much non taxable land must the city have before it goes bust?
Now dormitories are being suggested for the old Harvey site?
1:25 Surprise! Most are stil there!
The Millstone acquisition will be interesting. Who besides the city will bid? What about the other property down there not owned by Millstone? What will the city bid be? The appraisal has come in at $195,000? Will council have to approve the amount spent? This story has many twists and turns still left in it.
If I understood the the city manager correctly the FEMA money will go to the residents after the city aquires it and is torndown? What will the city spend close to a million dollars s to bring the land back to its natural state?

That was the previous owner that Mr. Werner had issues with too.
Heard he was the one behind the firing of the city employee too. Heard that the employee was not the one stealing but lost his job and his retirement too. Anyone know the real scoop?
If Mr. Werner had problems with the new owner of Jackie's where was this person last council meeting? I'm only aware of the manager of Jackie's talking?
