"NEED YOU" beatles

Maybe, at this time of year when it comes to the City of Painesville, it is a good idea to reflect on things we really need.

Do I need a well-run Police Department? I believe it's one thing that we need for sure.
Do we need a well-run fire department? Just reading the paper the last couple of months only proves their value.

Do we need an $85,000 Sorry, correction $93,456 Assistant City Manager? Nice guy but do I need him?
Do I need a City Planner? What part of the plans did he draw up this year that City Architecture or Burgess & Nipple couldn't do? Do we need to spend close to $500,000 to operate the two cemeteries? That's a lot of grass cutting.
Do we need to help pay for a Main Street Director? Does a great propaganda job but do I need him?
Do I need to enhance the City Manager's salary by buying her (city tax-free)annuities?
Don't want to pay city income tax; tell your employer you would rather have an annuity. Along with not being part of a salary you show the public.

Do we need all those school buses? Why can't we stagger starting times, that should save some gas.
Do we need to teach ESL students proper Spanish? Are they going to Spain?
Do we need to pay for all the perks the administration presently receives? For example: a vehicle and a cell phone seem rather redundant (I'm sure he has a perfectly good car and phone of his own he could use)...especially in these economic times.

Of course, both Administrations will agree they don't need ME.

I'm to believe my standard of living should go down because yours did? Sorry you made the wrong career move. I should suffer?

I don't want anyone to suffer, but if the money isn't there what else can you do? Raise taxes or cut services and payroll. It's nothing personal. I had a councilman tell me we're running in the black. $82,000,000 budget and $74,000.000 revenue, that's hardly in the black. The school system has no clue as to how much money the state will send them this year. How will they make up the shortfall? levy after levy?

To 11:52....if you are employed by the public sector then yes....your standard of living should reflect the realities of the people paying your check. And in this economic climate I guess that means that it should drop. There are alot of taxpayers out there that have made what you term 'wrong career moves'....but they are still paying their taxes and your salary.
And if you are employed by the private sector and have been blessed with no layoffs, reduced hours, or pay cuts...then enjoy it while you can. In case anyone missed Econ 101 our economy is intertwined: with other businesses, other states, and globally as well. It is also cyclic in nature and if your industry hasn't suffered through this downturn...it probably will in the next. Your smug attitude might serve you well today but what goes up must come down. I hope you are kind to those you have stepped on on the way up because they will be the very same people you see on the way down.

Really? Helloooo;
The Spanish they learn will do no good in Spain. It is for the Mexicans going to and from Mexico. Totally Different, not even close.

We definitely could put to better use the $30K/year we give to the main street manager. This is really an unnecessary expense. I say we start there. Should be easy enough to block this payment.

If you want to understand the way of public service ,just look around in our own city. Does the word nepotism explain things? Look at our utilities how many people have the same last name. Nothing like a little favoritism.
This along with the double dipper department head, leads to a sitigma of contempt.

No we dont need it.
Yet, this site prides itself on offering "correct" information. This was incorrect. And once again if it was scarcasm, this isn't the place for it because there are 12 people who take this as gospel.

Sunshine can I count you as our lucky "13"?

At December 30, 2010 at 8:16 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here's one I think you could appreciate Term, Where does the money that the city collects as utility deposits go. Do people earn interest on that money? How do other cities handle this.
SDo we really need 3 people to sit at city hall and collect payments? What does that trio cost us? You better than most must see the waste sitting there.

Sunshine...just for your edification...there is the proper Spanish known as Castilian and then there is the rest....just like proper English and then there's American English. We understand it (usually) when people speak proper Queen's English just like the Hispanics understand Castilian Spanish. I like Term's sarcasm...it brings home just how moronic it is to teach Spanish as a second 'first' language. (also a real waste of money)

Big Whoopy 25,000 views in almost 3 years? WOW quit patting yourself on the back. Most views were probably from people who couldn't believe your stupidity in the first place. Three years and really what have you changed?

As luck would have it, 13 is already my lucky number.
Yes, Castilian, it's coming back to me from when I took Spanish in high school, I just wasn't sure if that was the correct for it. Thanks for the memory jolt.

The real way that works, a program runs on the website server in the background everytime you load this site. That program requests from your computer what IP address you are logged in on. The program then counts how many different IP addresses have logged in.

The problem with that system is depending on your mode of connection, internet provider, and a few other variables you might get a different IP address every day you log in. So the program could see someone who logs in everyday as a different person.

If this site has a way around that it probably means this blog has dumped a cookie onto your computer to track you.

Blogger just keeps stats at what time and counts the number of hits.

I guess you just have to take my word that no one is dropping cookies or brownies. along with me having no real interest in who anyone is.
Nice try 4:32

This is 4:32, not sure what you mean by nice try? Are you becoming paranoid? I work in the computer field and I'm just explaining how these stats get collected.

And I bet you would be horrified to learn how many sites add a cookie that you don't know about.

At January 4, 2011 at 6:12 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term....4:32 is pretty much right. And those innocent sounding 'cookies' track a helluva lot more info than you can imagine.

At January 4, 2011 at 9:37 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Please explain this "cookies". I've heard of them but what exactly are they?

go to this link and it will explain cookies, site tracking, etc. to you.

Seriously? Term is the armchair politician, mayor of Owego, patron saint of Painesville, and since this is his blog site, computer genius all rolled into one! Is there anything he can't do?
See, Sunshine can do sarcasm just like everyone else!
