"COUNCIL MEETING 12/06/10"

The only thing I can tell that is on the agenda is the second reading of the 2011 budget. No departments are to make a presentation.
My question to the seven members of council have you no questions?
Where in this budget is the figure the city spends on health care, pension benefits?
What are Painesville's assets and what our our liabilities? What percent of the budget do we spend on interest? How and where does it show where the city pays for outside legal fees?
Why doesn't this budget even have a ledger let alone a line by line accounting?
Pies are nice, to eat but is this how a city with a $82,647,020 budget explain itself to the residents?
You would only hope that people ask some questions Monday night before the next meeting when they vote, with what they know now how could you vote "Yes"????
Investments what do we hold now, and what did we hold five years ago?

Just a quick note on the "Lyin" King" return to Cleveland a couple of things that you might have missed . Assistant coach Jamahi Maseley comment as LeBron talked to the Cleveland bench, S_T_F_U_ LeBron, or the look on the kings face at the start of the game when Mo Williams told him to G_F_Y. Priceless!

You have to wonder what "OTHER" represents in our budget.

Why is no one questioning why we pay 100% of Gurley's benefits, provide him an office, a car and full medical and yet he works part time for several other cities. And how can he be full time for us when he is part time to so many other cities? Maybe that's why so much legal has to be passed off to outside attorneys. He is only one person. It is not possible to be giving us what he is getting paid for.

That is a good question you should ask, at the "COUNCIL MEETING 12/06/10"?

Wish I could attend the meetings, but I've been on straight afternoon shift for the past few years.

First arm chair quarterback, then arm chair politician, now arm chair basketball expert! I am amazed.
Is there nothing you can't do?

One thing right off the top of my head.... Ask questions "Anonymously". You seem to have that market cornered.

Asked some questions at the council meeting. I'm one of those people that if they don't know the answer to a question they ask. I have the sense that some councilmembers don't know, and don't ask.
At the end of the meeting council -president Hada took councilmans Flocks remarks at the last meeting and stated the city managers only acts on the wishes of council? Sorry Joe I've sat in to many council meetings where the city manager recommended some legislation and council have followed her recommendations. The city manager RECOMMENDED the AMP-OHIO AMGS plant in Meigs County numerous time [check the council minutes].
Live by the sword die by the sword.

Some very interesting questions coming up on this blog.

Logic might dictate that if the city manager only 'recommends' then council should have a good working knowledge of the subject in order to vote on and pass her recommendations. Someone is dropping the ball here....either the city manager's suggestions are not thoroughly explained (the cons as well as the pros) or council isn't doing its homework to make sure its a good fit for our fair city. Sure would like to hear, for example, Fountain or Hach's explanation to one of their constituents as to what the whole AMP Ohio deal is all about (or any part of it for that matter) Its time for some thinking people that can vote their consciences (rather than how it will affect their re-election campaigns) step up.
The status quo has got to go.

Flock is like a pit bull with these attacks on Hada, McMahon ect. over Amp Ohio He should give it a rest.

Give it a rest? Lets see the city manager claimed we might not know the final cost of Meigs County before sometime in 2012. Over a year away. Now who's paying interest on the money that AMP-OHIO has already invested in that coal power plant? Who's paying legal fees to the lawyers representing AMP as well as the City of Painesville? Look at the contract, we are. NO wonder there's no hurry for a settlement. This power plant is the gift that keeps on giving, everything but electric power. I expect AMP-OHIO to propose a new plant on that site for us to invest in long before the present issues are solved.
I'm glad he's keeping their feet to the fire. Along with the parties mentioned wanting to divert attention from this issue.

Term....I'm going to hazard a charitable guess that Anonymous 6:18 and 5:29 is hoping you may have to eat your words someday because alot of things you talk about are so grim. None of us can be right all the time but it has been my experience that crow pie is usually eaten by ostriches...you know, those birds (or people that act like those birds) that bury their heads in the sand and ignore reality. I may not like many things told to me but it doesn't change the facts of the matter nor do I 'kill the messenger'.

4:00 these are some of the people that have bought into the city and it schools propaganda. They don't want truth they want to pretend everythingn is just fine. I took a quick glance at the citys financials last night and low and behold I must be mistaked Painesville has 26 million in reserves and investments? I have to check with some one who can figure this budget out. Now if its not in the fund we can use then just maybe their charging us to much for our utilities? Waiting for answers. P.S. In May I don't want to see one sign from the schools that reads "It for the Children" either.

Term are you an auditor? Maybe in another life you think you were?
You talk a lot of numbers, investments, funds but seriously do you have a clue about finances and budgeting for a city?
Its easy to sit around and talk the talk but I doubt if you were a department head or city council person you could walk the walk.

At December 13, 2010 at 9:31 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

TERM>> is not or never was an auditor. Only in government or say the healthcare field can you be critized for asking how much?
When you go into a grocery store and fill your shopping cart then go to the check-out where the cashier tells you $114.45. I guess you just shell out the cash? If you ask they ask you what do you know about the grocery business?
Eggs are from this fund and milk and cheese are in this fund ect.
All I'm asking for is some transparency. As far as your seven council members take them into a room one by one and chances are you will get seven different answers.
I gusee in your world I just shouldn't ask?

At December 13, 2010 at 12:34 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 6:53...I don't think the city administration or department heads are all that great either....if you ask any of them separately (those that you are allowed to talk to) you get different answers from them too....even different answers on the same question from the same person. Yes Term...a little transparency would be nice.

TERM >>Your answer to Mazed doesnt make sense. "Anonymously". You seem to have that market cornered. Since this is your blog you have the power & right to have it so people have to sign in before they post. That would eleminate those hiding behind "anonymous".

The whole point of this blog. is to hear what people think. Most would not comment if they had to use their real names. Mazed was making a point about me. I just wondered aloud who they were?
