"THANK-YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND"

The big news coming out of tonight's NOVEMBER 16, 2009 council meeting was the City Manager acccepted and council approved the resignation of Police Chief Gary Smith to become effective in early March of next year. Chief Smith has spent more then 26 years with the Painesville Police Department. Thank-you for your excellent service chief.
Our Fire Chief explained the added costs and times to EMS runs now that the hospital has shifted to Tri-Point, the usual turn around time at Lake East was 20 minutes, its over 50 minutes now, plus the extra wear and tear on the equipment. He stated the EMS unit the blew its motor Thursday had less then 25,000 miles? Ford Motor Co. was extending the coverage even though it was out of warranty.
The Martricula Card was held on second reading.
The budget was held on second reading every time I see that paperwork it begs to ask questions about it.
We will try to get the grant from the Clean Ohio Fund to clean up part of the Coe Manufacturing Land, did anyone know Coe was foreclosed on ?
In todays News- Herald it had an article that there were 205 sexual predators in Lake County. 58 lived here in Painesville more then any other community in Lake County. Mentor was second with 35, Painesville Township had 2. Could this be one of the statistics that rates us at the bottom in safety with the Cleveland Magazine? Just a thought.

Another problem brought up with the new location of the hospital in Concord, People are being released at 3:00a.m. in the morning and some have been found walking north on Rt.44 It is not the city's responsibility to transport people there and back but something has to be done about this before it turns tragic.
Still no solution to the Cobblestone problem, Mr. Hada I don't care about Tuckmore Dr. thats not our problem. The only real solution to the problem is a fire district comprised of Painesville, Painesville Twp., Concord, Fairport Harbor and Grand River. Never will happen it makes to much sense and would save money. Thats not on anyones agenda.

Again Thanks Chief Smith

Did the fire chief mention how many times there was No firefighters left in town because everyone is tied up on EMS runs? Please ask questions people. It is your safety being compromised.

We (Painesville) should be responsible for or people after they are taken care of... At the new hospital.. Painesville should give these people a ride back when the EMS comes back to town!..

The fire chief said that many of the transport calls are for such minor things as a bandaid needed, but if the patient requests transportation to the hospital they have to do it. Sounds to me like the new hospital is still being used as the primary care physician for a certain ethnic group, and you and I are still paying for this, only now we have to add the cost of transportation into our payment.

Did you notice who voted against replacing a retiring police officer? Guess who; Flock, Werner and Becks, the first two constantly waste the time of our police department. Becks said that safety is her first concern, why did she vote against replacing an officer? People in Painesville wake up and realize who the good people are. They are not Flock, Werner or Becks.

Painesville City annexed the Diamond Center area to increase its tax base and the ability to sell utilities further out from the city. The city sold this to the people two ways. As a city we can provide better services to the area then the township, and telling Painesville residents this would increase tax dollars into the city. They then let the Goldsmiths build a 350 plus apartment complex there never giving any thought to providing services there. When council voted the city manager claimed Grand River would be first responders to that area, knowing full well the length of time from our station there was unexceptable. Why else would she bring Grand River on board? Remember this was her solution to the problem. When Grand River sent a letter to the Painesville fire chief that due to economic conditions they could no longer honor the agreement to be first responders at zero cost to the area for Painesville. What was the next action of the city manager? Did she inform her bosses on council? No she did not reveal this until asked at least six months after the city received notice from Grand River. Why?
Only see can answer that but when exposed she blamed council. Councilpeople you annexed the land and you are responsible for the safety of that development. Do your jobs!
You bought it you eat it.
Now wheres the lies?

What do you mean by a certain ethnic group? There is more than one group of people that abuse this system.

At November 17, 2009 at 3:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

8:54, That was an ignorant statement. I think that if you would ask the Fire Chief you would find that a far majority of EMS calls are for Caucasians. (it is reported to the State). Stop assuming the worst from the certain "ethnic groups" you speak of.

Just who will be this taxi service you propose. The fire department, the police department, the schools or you????

3:02PM Your right theres enough blame to go around, its not any one group, they all seem to contribute to the problem.
Badger, University Hospital gives taxi vochers, the last I knew we had a taxi company in Painesville. With this hospital opening reported all over, LakeTran was asleep at the wheel.
Right or wrong what are my tax dollars supporting with this bus line?

Went to the "Holiday Open House" tonight in Downtown Painesville. All I will say it was a well organized event, and even in these trying economic times I was surprised at how many people were downtown, These a potential shoppers willing to spend money. Wonder if anyone will notice?

There may be abusers in all races, but if I use these services they know who I am and I am billed. Others are virtually anonymous with no identification, false identification, matricula (unverifiable). Something needs to be done.

When the Hosp. was in Painesville no one paid taxi service for the other towns people, to get home, so Painesville people better get used to it.

If Terms is correct on the happening at Cobblestone. I have lived in three other communities with a city manager and that manager would have been gone. It begs the question maybe someone was told and decided to keep it under wraps. What else don't we know?

Part of the anexation was to include the move in of a large chain store, possibly a Super Wal-mart. I understand that they were looking in that area and getting that land and trying to win the bid to have them build on the City side of the line would have created Jobs in the City and a nice tax base. Look at the businesses just across the line in Mentor there...do you really think that no one will ever occupy that land. It might take a bit of time to get it done, but my guess is that a big chain store will eventually take up the Citis offer to be there across from Cobblestone. Rome was not built in a day folks...JT

How many years has this land been annexed? Wal Mart would not cross that line even for cheap electric rates Why? That will become apartment heaven and an anchor around Painesvilles neck.
Ask ciyt hall what they have spent to develop that land yet it doesn't even rate a decent safety response.
JT. you don't try to look at things positive, you sir live in a fairy tale world!

Good response, very inciteful and loaded with information and, big surprise, insults. Why do I bother??? Because I really do like Painesville. If Painesville is so bad why does everyone stay? Go ahead and fire off the responses that you can't sell your houses now, here's your chance. I bet most that preach that they can't sell their houses never even put the sign in the yard, some may have. If I was able to buy a home here recently, I know for a fact that houses in Painesville are selling. Start the onslaught. JT

JT. calm dowm what does selling a house have to do with the Diamond Business Area? I think people like pulling your chain, this all started to happen after you went off on Bob Gibbs. You take this way to personal.

JT - Get a Clue and get one right now. P'vile City Manager stated that she would do her own thing to insure that Cobblestone Apts had Fire/Rescue Service. It has never materialized with her supposed meetings to insure that this annexed development would recieve the same benefits of fire/rescue as do the rest of us.
How far down the road with your statements of development who will pay for this service do all of these folks have to endure the wait, and wait, and wait process?

Rome not built in a day? Rita, through her lies to council, built this development in a heart beat.
Read all of the court cases and you will find-out that Rita McMahon has never ever followed through with the court documents, her word, to insure that she would do her own thing to have the protection for the Cobblestone Development. Rita McMahon, as an appointed individual is most guilty of every feasance under the law. Yes jt, appointed officials and elected officials can be procecuted under the same law.
As for the statements by the inept Fire Chief regarding response time: gee, how come he did not break down the times to show when a squad shows up at an emergency, the time it may take to stabilize, and then the trip to the hospital??? If the supposed Great Fire Chief wants to report stats; then he should do this in the proper manner of order: not make it appear as "whoa is me I am so frustrated."
Get it right, report it right and quit your whining!!!!!
No other city stats extend their response time by the time that they arrive and provide a stabilization to the patient. Their reported times are when they have stabilized and then leave towards any hospital.
FYI to all of you. The judgements by all hospital personnel towards any Rescue Unit is the time they reach the patient, their stabilization factors, and after the process of stabilization, the trip on the Road is fast or at their own pace. Accordingly, if you do not have the expertise on staff, your trip will be at a high rate of speed as you do not have anyone experienced to stabilize the patient. This whole process is not about distance nor speed: this process is about the high certification to handle medical emmergencies that you are called to and how experienced you are to handle the situation.

Term, you always stand up for Mr.Killer what is up with that, and stop telling JT to calm down, why don't you tell everyone else to calm down or stop dumping on other people like JT.

You are so one sided.....

TERM, As usual my point got lost. I never lost my cool so calming down is not needed friend. I just knew that the negative would come out of the woodwork when I asked why they stay in the Ville. I am trying to evoke a response to the question, "If Painesville is so bad why does everybody stay?" I mentioned the house selling as a precursor to the obvious line of attack that most would have taken here. They can't move out of Painesville because their houses won't sell, and the reason their houses won't sell is because of the terrible City policies and practices. Same old rehtoric. It's not because they let their houses run down or anything I bet...it is never the fault of the complainer, always someone else.

But, I said that I bought a house and I see others buying. And as far as Bob Gibbs, and "all of this starting because of that". His record speaks for itself. I make no bones about the fact that I do not like what the man, and I use that term loosly, stands for and the way that he treats others.

My comments were attacking the hypocritical on this forum that will say things that they don't mean simply to gain a response. JT

JT. Your point didn't get lost, your lost. The hospital got fedup and left, need more proof? Tell us JT. how hard is it for a city to lose a hospital? We managed to do it. What would you rather have in your town a full service hospital or 100 townhouses? When will you finally wakeup and see how bad things are getting?

To 7:10 am, you sir do not know it all either when it comes to why the hospital left. It actually had very little to do with anything the city did or didn't do. Start digging deeply into financial articles on hospitals and you will find some very interesting info on Lake Hospital Systems.

They had studies done and some large financial institutions wrote summaries all of which basically said for Lake Hospitals to maintain their market share in Lake county against the pressures from University and Cleveland Clinic they would need a newer state of the art facility and better positioned to travel from the South and East.

The bulk of these were done years ago and the decision to move to a route 90/44 intersection was the totally right one from a business perspective.

If you now start reading current financial analysis you will find that Lake Health has very good rated bonds based on the new facility positioning them for market share growth in the future.

Stop thinking everything in this world revolves around Painesville, for a County wide hospital system we are nothing more than a flea bite to scratch once in awhile.

To 8:11, I am truly sorry for your situation, but if you read my comment they were not aimed at anyone person, or demographic as you suggest, let alone the dozens of "anonymous" persons that are here. You would not be person that the comment was directed if you read it again. I am talking about the person that bashes Painesville and stays of their own free will. Not because of an extenuating circumstance, like yours.
I am also sorry that so many have been so offended by a person speaking their mind, is that not what is preached here? Of course I know the real reason that I get attacked, I don't think the way some others do. Well get used to it. Not changing and proud of my views.

I would like to say that seeing the hospital go was sad, but boy oh boy is it ever quiet here now. No more screaming sirens at all hours of the night. I have been to the new hospital and it is very nice. Proud to say that is where I will go when I need care.

And the poster above is right, there was nothing that the City could have done to keep the hospital. They made a business decision plain and simple and we could not have sweetened that pot enough. They NEEDED a totally new facility top to bottom. There was no real way of doing that and still occulpying the current site and full operations at the samme time while still providing care.

Making this my last post on the topic and moving on...JT

JT. the hospital left just like you ask people to leave Painesville if there not happy here. The hospital wasn't happy here, you should ask why?
9:38 better positioning north and south? What are they 1000 feet from the Geauga County Line? The people in Geauga County didn't give them two facilities the people in Lake County did.
JT. tonight I will say a prayer for you and your family that they don't need emergency care during a blizzard when both rt.90 and 44 are closed do to snow.

At November 20, 2009 at 6:30 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey 2:16 pm bet you never said a pray for the people out in Madison & Perry who had to put up with snow on rt 20.

And if the city had helped the Hosp. take the rest of the block between High & South and Liberty & S.St. clair, and let them remove the part of High St. between Liberty & S.St Clair St. they would still be here.

Term, I was ignorant on the taxi service. I guess since I have enough family to help me in this, I never gave it a thought.

LakeTran providing a service like this is better than tying up our rescue vehicles. The drivers are trained to help the sick or elderly. I do have a question about handicap service with the local taxi service.

At November 20, 2009 at 1:45 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

LakeTran will provide free service to the hospital with Medicare and Medicaid picking up the costs, during regular business hours.
I guess there are alot of people who don't have private transportation or friends and relatives that can pick them up. The hospital must realixe that Tri-Point is alittle off the beaten track and as other hospitals do provide a voucher to people that need one. My one fear I see is people in Painesville using our EMS units as taxi's We don't have the equipment or manpower to provide this. Some Pastor mentioned that some people drive up to Lake East see its closed dial911 and let Painesville transport to Tri-Point. Our fire chief told council that they could not refuse transport. Another problem coming our way especially with bad weather coming.
Badger your ignorant? I was telling people there are 12 Supreme Court Justices.

The transportation is not free. If medicare and medicaid is picking it up, then you and I are paying for it.

It is unfortunate that Painesville could not unite with Lake Health to allow the hospital to expand right there in town - being closer to nursing homes and assisted living facilities especially. I agree that the new location is a travel hazard waiting to happen in the winter. I am seeking employment with Lake Health and have avoided the TriPoint jobs because I am afraid of the drive out there in the winter months. I hope another tragic car accident (with an ambulance!) doesn't have to happen before this issue is addressed. The way in and out of there is "different". (I tried a dry run and did not care for it) Good luck to all.
