"MY SWEET LORD"

After debating with myself over the past week what Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan motives were. The only conclusion that make any sense to me was he was a terrorist on a mission to kill Americans. What other motives would there be to kill and wound all those people at Ft. Hood?
One thing I kept hearing on the news programs were "He was a Muslum first then an American soldier."
That stuck in my mind and I started asking myself;
Am I a Christian first then an American?
Now before you say this is a crazy proposition. Think back 60 years, how did the German Government convince a mostly Christian Country made up of mostly Protestants and Catholics to take part in the extermination of all the Jews? Where is something like that "final solution" in the Bible or anywhere in Christian Doctrine?
In my whole life I never gave that any thought, There never seemed to be a problem being both. Christian and American. When and where the rubber meets the road what are we first? Christians or Americans. Please feel free to offer your thoughts, help me resolve this.

Interesting thought Term.

We can and should apply that to most people thou. You are an Italian American, and there are Irish Americans, Japanese Americans, and so forth. Then we come to religion. You are a Christian as you said. So are you a Christian American or a Catholic American? Then there are Jewish Americans, Islamic Americans and it goes on. Dare I bring up Democratic Americans or Republican Americans. How about Liberal or Conservative Americans.

We are all suppose to be Americans first with all our heritages added to the pot. I think that is what can and does make America great. Maybe this is where our problems begin. When someone or some group of people put something else first, with little pride or faith in being an American. These can be the radical terror groups or the religious fanatics. They believe that anything goes including killings and bombings as long as it institutes fear and tries to tear apart our society.

I think everyone knows I'm upset about Fort Hood. There have been other plots that were stopped before they could take place. Attack on a mall (Columbus???), bombings in New York tied to an attack on a military base in Newburgh NY come to mind. I have also said that I feel a greater need to be able to protect my family these days. I question my safety constantly.

I've also said that not all terrorists are Muslim, it't just that most terrorist are Muslim. Same as most illegal immigrants just happen to be hispanic. Joe Hada said we can't profile. Well, sometimes it is for the better. Is it profiling by stopping cars when the bars close? How about our teenagers? They are involved in more accidents than older drivers. Live in a house with 15 to 20 other people looks suspicious too. Have ties with a radical group whether it be say the KKK or maybe Al-Qaeda makes you suspect.

I'm not an Italian, a Mexican, a Christian, or a Catholic. I am an American with a deep heritage and faith that I hope makes America a better place. Just my thoughts.

In short,

Being an American means you have the freedom to be a Christian, Jew, Muslim or whatever. It also means you can be proud of your ethnic origin and heritage. If we want to keep these freedoms then we must stand strong and be willing to defend them. I question anyone who puts any cause first. As for my faith, that is between me and God.

Simple, why not do what I did at the age of nine, about religion?
Show some guts and walk away from that collection of clumsy lies.

I'm so sick of people calling themselves Italian, Irish, German or whatever. Unless you were born in Italy, you are not Italian. My parents were born here, my grandparents were born here, and some of their parents were born here. How the hell does that make me Italian or German? I'm American. What if I were to move to Canada, then what would I be? Would I be an American-Canadian, or would I be an Italian-American-Canadian?

I'm also an atheist, so does that make me an atheist-American? No, I'm an American.

Everyone here has a right to belong to any religion, or belong to no religion. Everyone also has the freedom of speech. But if you preach murder, death, or other threats to the U.S., then you need to be arrested and deported.

If I repeatedly tell someone in my neighborhood that I'm going to kill him, I'll get arrested. Why is this any difference when Muslims preach death to America and make other threats?

We need to be tolerant, but this is clearly out of hand. What do the Ft. Hood shooter and the 9/11 murderers have in common? They are all radical Muslims. I think we should be profiling these Muslims and getting them before they get us. For as much as most people on this site complain about Mexicans, I don't recall any mass killings by Mexicans. I think your anger is directed at the wrong people. We need to go after these radical Muslims, as they clearly are coming after us, and they have no problem saying that.

Sincerely,
An American

We live in a different world now. During WWII,

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." is a quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.

We are being invaded every day. Problem is they can be behind any blade of grass, any over crowded rental, any radical church or maybe the person who lives next door. When did we let this happen? 9-11, lack of security at our borders, or letting the ACLU or politicians take our God given rights away from us.

Terrorism is an act of war, plain and simple. Trying these people (???) in civil court in NY invites another attack. It also gives them recognition and possible condemnation by the rest of the world. Do they deserve this? Do we?

Badger, I and probably 70% of Americans agree with you. One small problem is the Constitution which gave us three branches of government. Now the way I understand it the twelve people who sit on the Supreme Court say these terrorist deserve a trial?
Why they haven't been tried and executed over the last eight years is truly a joke to me.

Term, It is 9 Justices and 12 on a Jury.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced the decision Friday to bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to trial at a lower Manhattan courthouse.

He is an Obama appointee. His job is to close Gitmo prison. Is this the way to do it?

WOW! All I can think of is WOW! Proud of my heritage but I always know that I am an American to the core. My grandparent immigrated here to provide a better life and to be Americans. I served for this country and what it stands for. The fact that 2:47 can post that type of...comment...is the direct result of the sacrifice that so many have made to protect their liberties. I am a GOD fearing person and a Christian and will never mistake my love for my god over that of a canine. JT

Badger where is alright to torture someone, in either God's law or man's law? Do you really think your getting the truth? Give these terrorist a fair trial and please have enough faith in your government that they will have the evidence for a conviction and do the right thing.

9:32

Do you have evidence of me torturing anyone? How I live is now going to trial? Just what are the charges against me? You and the government have the evidence and faith to convict me?

So just where does this torture issue apply to me. Sounds like you have judged me and these terrorist yourself already. You are judging me by the actions of other people.

Just what truth are you referring to? Yours? I have said in the past that I get my news (????) from many sources. I don't listen to just one source or site. Propaganda comes from many places. The government, news media, political parties, religious organizations and even this blog.

We all must follow man's law or suffer the consequences as in these trials. As for how I live my life according to God's law, that is for him to judge, not you.

2:47 All I can say is I wish I was a better Christian than I am, I don't question anyones beliefs but with all you see around us in this world it didn't just happen by chance did it?

Term, You seem brighter then this. Evolution was the cause over millions of years.Religion is only used to control people since the start of man.

10:25 Lets for a minute assume your right. I follow my faith and try to live a good Christian life. I die and thats it. No Heaven, no Hell just turn to dust. The End. Now if I'm right and you die, your going to be in a pretty awkward position explaining yourself don't you agree? Goes without saying "better safe then sorry."

Heaven and Hell my butt.
How about you live your best today, right now. It's all you have. Religious wars are responsible for more suffering and death than the black plague or any other pestilence visited on mankind! Believe what I believe or I'll smite thee dead.

It doesn't matter what temple you're praying at. The dogma divides everyone. Live for today not covering your damn bases. What if it happens to be Allah or Jehovah or Dog and not the "God" your were intending? You just don't know do you?
Did you ever think Heaven might be here and it's what you make of each day. It's not about tomorrow it's about today and what you do with it.
I'd rather have the sky the over my head than sit in some building professed to be the house of God and let the high holy idiot tell me what to believe or how to interpret some holy book. The bible and koran have an awful lot in common. Much more that differences. Go take a comparative religion class at the local college.

Go lemmings Go!!

5:43 Is it me, or why is you seem so angry the other peoples beliefs? Live your life as you wish but time will tell which one of us is the fool..
This was not really what the question in the post was about?

TERM, "To argue with a fool in public, the publicc does not know who the fool is"

Abraham Lincoln

This person is trying to relay that they do not have a way other than wondering. 5:43, Whatever God one chooses is of their own choosing friend. I would also think that if we were all "lemmings" as you so obviously represented, then why do we go in so many directions. Don't lemming all go the same way? Maybe it is a different lemming that they speak of that I am not familiar.

Maybe a little faith is not succh a bad thing anyway. Do you not beleve in your own type of faith? Think about it. If others feel the way you do then do you not all walk the same path? If that be the case, are you not a "lemming". JT
