"IT TO LATE BABY,"

Thought I'd clean up a few ends today.

Last week Asst. City Manager e-mailed me with some information about the lawnmowing of properties. There is no bids but the city puts out for "quotes" This year J.D. Skytta Construction, and Yardmaster had the best quotes. If next year you would like to enter a quote e-mail nsivetsen@painesville.com or call 392-5922. Just a reminder you need more equipment than a 20' Toro, but I see possibilities of a student home from college, or someone needing income to give a quote.

Lake Hospital Systems sent me a letter, plus T.V.ads, full page in the News-Herald. Why? Ask a business person what it costs to change your name, everything from letterheads, signs, you name it. Someone should ask the Hospital Board how this name change has improved healthcare in Lake County this bunch knows how to spend money. If it looks like your area might use another hospital they build emergency rooms at 5 million dollars to keep them from using Geneva Hospital {UHS} but if you have been in a community for a 100 years they ask you to help find 2.5 million to clean up their fogotten site. I'd like to tell them "tear it down yourself" and tell city residents go to University Hospital maybe they might build an emergency room in town?

Anybody read the Cobblestone article in the Lake County Tribune 06/12/09/ I will ask to reprint it. but if you get a chance read it then tell me who "dropped the ball" That article tells alot on how the City of Painesville is run.

Got an e-mail back from Cleveland Magazine, for $30.00 they will send me the figures and facts I asked for. $30.00 to be called retarded or willfully ignorant by some on this blog? Nah, I'll spend that money at the Depot for dinner.

Watch the school board meeting on Ch.96 Dr. Hanlon was asked if the school property sites could be sold? The district Treasurer stated the schools could sell the land sites for as little as a dollar, if they choose to. Thats what I think I heard. My apology to Dr. Hanlon. Well Dr. Hanlon if you payed one-third of the cost of tearing down the building doesn't it make sense that you should at least get your money back for what the taxpayers of Painesville spent to tear it down?

Something I just was sent
http://www.downtownpainesville.org/map.html.

Just to throw in a trvia here in the Meatloaf video "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True" who is the female star of the video?

Money seems nothing to some of these people changing the name to Lake Health so what? your right it doesnt provide any better services and I pray another Hospital system moves into the area. Sell that land for a dollar and watch how fast I file a lawsuit. I havent seen proof that the board has even payed their share of expenses for the traffic lights at Cedarbook, and Kennsington.

Just read the Cobblestone article, We didn't have a contract just an agreement? What was Grand River to receive out of this agreement? Grand River, and Painesville Township wanted a sitdown with Painesville and they were ignored? Painesville could use a fire chief like the townships, what you say he's the former Painesville fire chief. Probably had had enough. Joe Hada it was your resposibility to inform the rest of council when you found out. Quit hiding behind that ladys apron its unbecoming.

The CM LIED.......Period What did she expect a small village like Grand River to do for free? Go back to the council meeting minutes a read what she said about Grand River as first responders when ir was first proposed. When she assured council it was presented as some contract. This Lady is in so far over her head she can'r keep the story straight.

A little correction Mr. Term it was Treasurer Andy Taylor that said the land could be sold for a dollar Dr. Hanlon just let that srarement stand. Another resident first complains about all the money the residents have spent on the city schools, then he wants the Huntington property for a dollar also? Two school sites two dollars and then they said they could reject the highest bidder. This is what happens when you give control of property which they have no monetary stake in.

I stand corrected I know I heard someone say the land could be sold for as little as a dollar.

looks like it's going to be a long hot summer in Painesville. Anyone else see the situation over on East Erie Street about 11pm Saturday night. Over 100 mexicans and blacks, 6 police cars, and a couple sheriff cars. What happened? Rumble in the city? I'm sure we won't read about this in the paper.

Its our diversity whats wrong with you? We import Blacks from the Cleveland and illegals from Mexico and they battle over turf that ain't worth zilch. The city has lost all control thanks to Rita.

As for Lake Hospital..sorry to see you leave..maybe someone could coax the Cleveland Clinic or University Hospitals to build here.

Township Fire Chief Frank Whittaker.. Good man and you're right.. he left for greener pastures and better working environment. Now he runs three exceptional fire stations, vs being micro-managed by Rita at one station.

Not sure about the police response the other night, contact the pd as they should have record of it. But I do know the gangs and fighting between different groups has worsened in the last year.

"Over 100 mexicans and blacks, 6 police cars, and a couple sheriff cars. What happened? Rumble in the city?"
This points to one of Painesville's biggest problems, in my opinion. I hate to say this, but I think that Painesville is perceived as a crime ridden town full of low income minorities who cause trouble.
That perception existed in the 70's when I was in high school in Chardon. Then, it was fear of blacks. I'm ashamed to say that our teams were afraid to come here to play Harvey. It was prejudice, pure and simple.
Now maybe we still have the same problem only we have fear and dislike of Mexicans added to the mix as well.
When I first moved to the North End I received several phone calls from my ex-husband, who was afraid I was putting our son in danger by moving to such a 'dangerous' neighborhood. (I've never had any problems, by the way, and I've learned to really like my neighborhood.)
I don't think that white people from out of town know or care much about the political workings of the City. I doubt that anyone says to his or her spouse "Oh, no, dear, we can't move to PAINESVILLE, their City Manager is a liar."
But when they hear people saying things like "Oh there were over 100 Mexicans and blacks causing trouble" you better believe that makes them think twice.
Racism exists. Prejudice exists.
Don't try to tell me it doesn't; when I have contractors here to work on the house and they say things like "Oh, how is it living next to them" meaning the Mexican family next door. Or "Oh, you've got a Rottweiler, yeah, the blacks don't like them". Or there's a report of kids trespassing and the remark is made "Well, at least they were white", like that even matters. Or someone buys a house on the street and we're told, in a relieved tone, "Oh, and they're WHITE" of the buyers. And I think it's behind some of the problems that we have here.
Don't ask me what the answer is, I have no idea. I wish I did. It's one of the hardest things to talk about. And I'm not holding myself out as some sort of superior person either; sometimes I wish I could move somewhere where I'd never have to hear booming rap or loud Mexican music again - maybe that makes me racist too. We can't talk about this issue if we aren't honest, though.
I think it would be interesting to do a survey and ask people, residents as well as non -residents, whites and minorities, "What's the first thing you think of when you think of Painesville?"

so, hatetosayit, tell me. If it was 100 blacks and mexicans involved what should be said. Should someone lie? It should be told like it is. Don't hide the facts. If it was a black mexican problem, then that is what it was.

Racism exists. Prejudice exists.

Yes it does.

So does Fear.

Fear of a perceived danger. Nothing happened in the 70's to justify that fear you had did it. Still the fear was there.

The different ethnic groups stay to themselves. Go to Rec park. How many hispanics are playing Little League? How many white or blacks play soccer? There are a group of hispanics who play baseball on Harvey's JV field. It can't be that any one group hates this sport or that sport. Racism, Prejudice and Fear exists. Everyone just sticks to there own. The fears will never disappear this way.

Now about fear and how it spreads to other communities and people.

One or two police cars at a traffic stop is no big deal anywhere. On a domestic disturbance, 2, 3, or more are needed for everyone's safety including the officers. Still no one thinks twice and they don't draw a big crowd.

The police need to back each other up at these calls for their own safety.

Now, what did happen Saturday night for that many cars to respond? Did the sheriff's department dispatch cars too? Why did the police need to call in that much backup? What made all those people (100?) leave their house and walk down the street to see what happened? Just how many were white, black or hispanic?

Something happened that's for sure. Since this happened on a major street heading into/out of Painesville, what do you think people who drove by and saw this thought. Who were the people involved? All these unanswered questions will only add fuel to the rumors.

Without any answers we only get more Racism, Prejudice and Fear.

Good post, Badger. And you are absolutely right - nothing happened back in high school to justify the fear.

Once I learned an interesting way to think about Fear. Fear is:

False Evidence Appearing Real

Worth thinking about.

That said, you're right again when you observe that people tend to stick with their own. I've noticed that too. Though it warms my heart sometimes when I'm out and about in town and I see a group of kids playing together - white, Hispanic, black, all together, having a good time. THAT is one of the things I love about Painesville. What happens to us as we become adults, I wonder. . .
And when I say "us" I include myself, painful as it is to realize that.

Bigot? The question is why are some making $2.00 more an hour? Would it be a bigot question if an hispanic asked why is son makimg $2.00 less? How do you run a summer work program with a two dollar differencial? Isn't it more important that they fix this? I don't think it had anything to do with race, just who hired you.

As for proof..hmmm..I've known JD Skytta for years..big talker..owes money to everyone..and he keeps a horse at the building inspector's barn..imagine that.

Yes, if a mexican was getting paid $2 less the ACLU and HOLA and the big Veronica would be all over the issue. But the other way around, and we are just complainers. That is what is wrong in Painesville and what will cause this city to blow one day soon.

No, I don't know that. In fact, I know that is not so. You are a racist. If a white person made a comment that the non white didn't do as much work there would be an outcry. As someone said earlier, the whites are the descriminated race. But we just don't complain. We work and work and work. You people are a bunch of mooching bellyachers!
