"COUNCIL MEETING 05/04/09
Wow! Checked the city site nothing on the agenda, no resolutions, ordinances.
Just a presentation by the Fire Chief.
These are usually the most interesting meeting. Will report Monday Night.
Mrs. Hall is still having the same problems with the house next door, I wonder how many others in town have the same problems and don't share them with council?
A resident shared her concerns about the new owners of Union Sand down on Bank St. The operation is in the township but pressure should be brought on this company to be thoughtful neighbors, noise and dust. $100 fines don't affect a company of this size its like someone fineing you a quarter.
Heisley Park residents seem to be at the present time happy with the results of the city dealing with the water problem, another resident there was unaware of possibility of condos going in behind his home.
The Fire Chief gave a presentation concerning the Fire Dept. Guess what our new $350,000 Fire Truck has a smashed door...already. Great Firefighters just hard on equipment.
Also of note Patrolman Jay Adams is Painesvilles Police Officer of the Year Congats! Jay.
"Laika" One of Painesvilles K-9 officers is retiring after 6 years. What a great dog. Thanks to her and Officer Collinsw who she will live with.
One final note I have noticed at the last 4 to 5 meetings Lori Dinallo in the vistor section taking notes and watching the running of the council meeting. Her and John Murphy, who attends all council meeting leave me with the impression that they want to be ready to take office if they win in November. Where's everyone else?

IF THERE IS NOTHING ON THE AGENDA FOR MONDAY NITE, LET THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY HAVE AN OPEN FORUM TO DISCUSS SOME ISSUES THAT ARE SOME CONCERN TO THEM.IN THE PAST YOU ONLY GIVE US 3 MINUTES TO SPEAK,HOW ABOUT LONGER TO VOICE OUR CONCERNS? SURELY THE COUNCIL CAN SPARE A FEW MORE MINUTES SEEING THAT THERE IS NOTHING ON THE TABLE TONITE.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE CANDIDATE
the interesting part will be what conspiracy theories you come up with afterwards from an otherwise uneventful meeting.
I wish someone would ask the council, why the street lights are so dim? Many on our street are amber and only a few are bright.
You or any resident can go to council and ask that lighting question.
No conspiracys but,....will see.
NO YOU CANNOT ASK QUESTIONS AT THE COUNCIL MTGS.
Term,
stop telling people that.
You can only voice your concerns, but they are not there to anwser your questions, the mtgs. would last all night.
Try going thru. the right channels to get your anwsers, call the city switchboard and ask who you need to talk to.
352-9301 works for me, every time.
Go to the council meeting and voice your concern over the dim lights, but don't ask why there dim?
O.K.
sounds to me like -- what's the point in attending?
Its always interesting theater, the looks, the disbelief the mean looks, the confusion, the look at the council president, who looks at the city manager, who looks at the law director. The what did that person just ask?
"Try going thru. the right channels to get your anwsers, call the city switchboard and ask who you need to talk to.
352-9301 works for me, every time."
Thank you. Good post.
weren't the lights an issue before and wasn't all that talked about? How short is your memory?
Why ask a council person why the street lights are dim?, call the city and ask the electric service dept. they are the ones that can replace them. I'm sure they probably don't have a person that drives around and inspects every street light in the city, I know from experience, call, bring it to their attention and I'll bet it's fixed within the week.
Talk to the switchboard operator? That woman doesn't want to be bothered. She can be plain rude.
Seems some lady gets more than three minutes. A lot more. Have dealt with her in the past and she is very pushy and rude.
You want to look into wasteful spending..inquire as to how many days Officer Collins and his k-9 worked in the last year... Big waste of money for something that provides miminal benefits other than a PR tool.
Minimal benefits? You are the worst. If he didn't have such a tool you would be the first whining about it. You are so transparent.
How did the new fire truck lose its door? Why does it have to be fixed in Pittsburgh?
That new CHASE vehicle costs $20,000 and it sits outside while an old Laketran bus sits in side? Please explain.
What does sitting at a council meeting have to do with being ready to take office?
If that is a qualification why isn't term running?
The "old Laketran bus" is actually a command post with computers, technical equipment, and other specialized equipment, which why it only makes sense for it to sit inside of the F.D....
" So transparent"...no I have seen six years of wasteful spending..show me results..talk to any officer of the PPD..let them give their firsthand view of the program. "Here kids..come pet the pretty doggy.." was about all it was ever good for. Oh wait..I forgot nice trading cards and an abundance of time off for its handler.
When was rhe last time you used your command post? It along with so many things are a waste of money. No other fire dept. in Lake County has one, ever wonder why?
Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins,
Every other fire department has well-equipped suvs that serve as their command vehicles. Obviously you have never been to fire scene and seen the usefulness of such a vehicle.
Someone may want to research this, but I was under the impression the Laketran bus was acquired either for FREE (donation) or ultra-cheap (auction). I'm pretty sure it was painted by Auburn students pro bono.
The bus gets used any time one of the local FD's needs a command center for a major event. The nearest similar vehicle is the County comm-van, which is housed in Kirtland and, when requested, has to be manned by Kirtland firefighters and delivered to the scene.
And part of the reason that not any other FD in the county has a command van is because it is in the interest of mutual aid. Why would our immediate neighbor have something we already have, that they can borrow? Fairport has stuff that PCFD doesn't have...
If you guys are talking about wasteful and unnecessary spending, I don't think the PCFD "big red bus" is really any part of the problem.
