"WORKIN IN THE COAL MINE GOING DOWN"

This coming Thursday 04/30/09 7:00p.m. Andy Flocks "Town Hall Meeting" at the New Huntington Elementary School on Elm St. will have someone from the "Ohio Action Committee" to discuss with city residents the 1000 megawatt coal plant being built by AMP-OHIO and its partners {Painesville is one of them.] All factors of the plant, its costs and effect on the environment will be discussed. AMP-OHIO as of this time has refused to send a spokesperson to this meeting or a future meeting. Even if your only question is "whats electric power going to cost in ten years" you should plan to attend.

Ohio action committee? Who is that? Are they the group that is sternly against it? I wonder how that presentation will go. I doubt the whole truth will come out, I would encourage all with questions or those who are told something that disturbs them to get both sides of the story.

AMP-OHIO has been invited, and Andy assured me they have an open invitation at any meeting.

How do we know they were invited? I don't believe you.

So what? If they came their side would be slanted too. Just beware of taking anything the Ohio action committee says at that meeting as gospel. I don't care who you invite or who shows up. I only care if what I'm being told is BS. and that is what I anticipate from the "Ohio action committee". Who is that anyway? Are they government? Or did they just pick that name to sound more official and try to gain the perception of credibility by picking that name?

Just a note I don't think a city copuncilperson can do anything about keeping swine flu out of Painesville.

Do you anticipate B.S. from Amp-Ohio? Your welcome to come to the meeting to find out. Also I guess you could come to the meeting and ask Andy if Amp-Ohio was invited.

I would expect less BS from Amp Ohio, they are an organization covered under PUCO rules so everything they claim is backed by numbers available to the public. They are forced to deal with known facts and nothing else.

The Ohio action committe can claim anything they want as long as it is short of slander that they can be sued for.

Amp Ohio.......
they are, all in all a good company.....
we live in Ohio, rich in coal.
Amp Ohio does have hydro plants and is looking into other alternative energy resources.

Amp Ohio is a business this was a no brainer for a coal rich state, make that tri state.

There is no such thing as "clean coal" With the new administration in place things have changed; funding, environmental laws and governing agencies for green energy.

The real question...... Will Amp Ohio play ball with the new administration.

There has to be an power source we can use without poisoning the planet. So far coal doesn't seem to be the answer. Neither are the side effects of blasting off mountain tops, clear cutting, contamination of ground water, CO2 emissions and all the other nasty things that go along with coal.

I would rather see the other reactor a Perry go on line than see a multi million and possibly billion dollar coal plant built.

Canada has figured out the waste problem. GE has a pretty tight lock down on why we are not using the Canadian process of degrading the waste.

I am more concerned with the contract this city signed with AMP OHIO. Where are we with this contract if the plant is not built? Not sure anybody even thought this plant might not be built at the time the city signed the contract.

The plant will be built. I am just as much for clean power as the next guy but the bottom line is with out coal power Ohio cannot support our economy. There is not enough affordable alternative energy sources to supply the tri state needs at this time. 20-30 years in the future yes, but right now we either get some more coal power on line or watch our tri state economy continue as it is going -- downhill fast.

Bad Andy and the Ohio Action Committee are going to save the earth with Al Gore and Streisand. give us a break with the B.S. already

He'd better get hot on getting stuff fixed here in our town and quit worring about some greenpeacers from another county.

Keep sticking up for him. He throws a wrench in the works all the time and gets nothing accomplished. I bet he's listening to Streisand right now.

Next time you see a councilperson that voted for the AMP-OHIO deal ask them what the total financial exposer is to AMP-OHIO,[ZERO} and whats the City of Painesvilles? Just to clarify something, the state PUCO has zero control over AMP, and the City of Painesville Municipal Power Plant.
Ask them why AMP wants government money to build a state park on the property for them to use during construction? Did they vote for that to?

Keeping an open mind I listened to the presentation, I can only wonder what 7 councilpeople know about the cost of a power plant? They have put us on the hook for alot of money lets hope there right. Bad Andy? was the only councilperson that was against the 3.9 mil charter change from the begining if that would have passed that would have added over $120.00 a year, every year to my property tax. Safety Levy tell me what has the city done but explain how well off we are even to the point of raises in these tough times. That was a plain money grab nothing else. He also was the only councilman at the time not to vote yes for the present city manager. All this without a fundraiser. Bad Andy? Thank God for Andy.
