Get real! Liking this movie does not make you a racist. It is a movie. And nothing was said about liking the movie. It was just mentioned that it would be interesting to see what Painesville looked like in years past. You can just stop your attempt at discrediting. People like you feel threatened and you have to throw that kind of trash to make you feel good about yourself.

A heads up about the only movie made in Painesville and the first comment calls someone a racist. What does the pot call the kettle? If you can't say something intelligent, just call someone a racist. Looks like par for the course here.

Black. Black is the answer. It is the answer because they are both black. Does that mean you are admitting you are both racist?

You people crack me up.

Term..
Absent all of the remarks, I have seen the movie and feel it is an educational and enlightening movie regardless of whether you are white, black or hispanic. The movie provides substantial insight on a variety of important issues taking place within our diverse community today. Most importantly..don't judge a person by their color or creed..judge them for their individual contributions and accomplishments within society and the individual they are inside. Our diverse community is what makes this city a great place to live and work.

Hey, I saw the movie!

Thanx Term!
Recorded it because I hear so much about what Painesville used to look like. Since we moved here in the early 80's, when the city was really in decline I was curious.
All I can say is............ Wow, what happened? The theater looked awesome! The place was bustling and I had a hard time putting places together but figured it out.

That said, I was pulled into the plot line. This is how is was in 1963....... the entire country was racist. I think it is very cool that Painesville was used in away to bring awareness to the what was going on in the country. Did you read the statements that rolled across the screen at the end?
This movie was an incredibly important statement for it's day. This was just a few short years ago and look where we are today!

The black actors; the grandfather in particular was James Earl Jones father in real life. It was good too see black actors portray life in the 60's. (besides Harry Belefonte) In the intro I thought I heard something about this movie winning awards.

Also a nice thank you to the citizens of Painesville at the end of the movie.

Think this would be a good movie to show in history classes at Harvey.

MP..........

Yes I saw the movie, the use of the N-word did not offend me and Painesville looked so nice, the Lake Theatre and Angelas Pizza, oh to have a pizza from there again.
funny how they made that movie here and at that time we had very little hate between black & white

Glad some of you took the time to watch the movie. Here's a Trivia question for you. What school was used in the filming when the Judge talked to the little girl on the playground? {this is a trick question}

Did anybody Tivo this, or have it on DVD or VHS? I am a youngun (28) but have lived in Painesville my whole life, and would LOVE to see this movie. Unfortunately I do not have cable (had to cancel it, it got too expensive), so I won't be able to see it next time it airs. I can assure you, I am a non-creepy, normal guy and you will get your copy of it back. I live on the south side off of E. Walnut......drop me an email at straightonchaser@yahoo.com ---- Thanks!

Thanks for posting this - my wife and I, who both grew up in Painesville, watched it and wondered about the school. Do you know which street they used for the various homes?

I know the factory where everyone worked was Fassons on Chester St. When it was just starting out the field where they played baseball was the open area between Fasson and Lockie-Lee Dairy later used to enlarge Fasson. One note here that spot on Chester St. Before the Dairy and Fasson occupied it was at one time used as the staging area and big top when the circus came to town every year in the 30's.
Lake Theater was located where the old Rite-Aid building is. The apartment that she lived in was I believe on Prospect St. near St.Clair.
Anyone know any other locations?

I remember I was in elementary school (at Huntington) when this was filmed. The park downtown was taken over by the Hollywood crowd--lol. Over the years I've looked for it in stores and online. As far as I know it's never been officially relased on video or dvd...too bad.
