"MONEY FOR NOTHING" dire straits

Just saying; Just received my February edition of the Painesville Pride today. Low and behold Andrew Flock is still a councilman from Ward I. I wonder how much longer Andrew must be associated with this group and please don't call him call councilperson Shoop. Also I no longer want to hear about spelling errors here on the blog. Winter is not spelled Witner? (Top of the Fold)

Now that ain't workin' the way you do it

The other day while driving south on State Street I followed a 53' ft. semi south out of town it veered left at Bank St. and proceeded to Walnut St. Now I have no idea where he was going and what he was caring but that vehicle can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds.

I remembered the council work session when the subject of Bank St. came up? Me I was under the impression that we had solved that problem? No I guess we haven't as I looked over the edge of the cliff on Bank St. it appears the plan to build up the ground area is a complete failure? But I'm not an engineer it sure doesn't look promising.

Now before the city embarks on another project to shore up the eroded cliff may I make a suggestion that Bank St become a cul-da-sac? Closing it at State St.

I realize this could be an inconvenience  for people living on Bank St. as well as people heading in and out of town but it appears to me to be a foolish investment to try and shore up the bank if we will let heavy truck traffic on that street?  With possibly more to come as the Coe building's get busy.

I believe as the truck rubbles, by the houses vibrate and so does the bank.

Yes it's an inconvenience for many but presently do any of you have a better working solution?

I fear if something isn't done soon S. State St. will become the new Bank St.?

Hey it's that time of year! The Vermont  Teddy Bear Commercial time. This year surprise that woman you love with a 4' Hunka Love Teddy Bear.(remember size matters!)  All this for just $99.00. They also are pushing a 3' Lovey Buddy and throw in some Shari's Berries. Smaller Bears are available but I fear they could become the family dogs new love interest?  Look I need to know does anyone purchase these Bears and what is the real reception of it? To the rest of us every kiss begins with K. Live and learn.

Rerouting traffic to S State St will be of no help.

State St was repaved about 8 or 9 years ago. Since that time there have been so many openings made in the street that I could not even begin to count them. I would venture a bet that not one single opening was restored properly. They street is now littered with pot holes and erosion because the poor restoration of the openings.

Now add in the fact that the water or sewer lines appear to be collapsing and the problem will become worse. I invite you to drive the street and you will see what I mean. It is especially bad in the area of the old State St School and near 502 S State St. I can assure you that trucks going down State St are destroying the infrastructure. You can hear sewers rattling with every truck.

Nope, routing the trucks on State St will not help even a small amount.

10:58 So what's the solution? Bank St. is not a state highway and if you want to go from Rt.84 to Rt.84 you use State St. Now I don't disagree that S.State also needs major repair work my concern is we lose no more of the bank.

Term,
I do understand BUT destroying another road isn't a good option.
Trucks going the direction you saw would have to be heading east on Rt 84.
Why can't they be routed east on Madison Ave?
That gets them out of town faster and uses a better road as well.

"Major work" is an understatement. It is very easy to see where the road is collapsing in a number of locations.

BTW, if State St is a state highway, why can't ODOT be responsible for damage and repairs to it?
Realistically Rt 86 should end where Rt 84 turns east on Walnut St.

6:19 Well the trucks are going to come and to what degree other roads bear the brunt is unknown. Also let's make another street suffer along with the fact that Madison Ave. is not a state route.
As a community as a whole we can't ignore this or put the problem elsewhere. Closing Bank St. is a good first step.
Plus most of the truck traffic enters the city from the south on Liberty St. or State St.
Now a question for the administration. How many ticket's has the city issued for vehicles exceeding the legal weight of a road or a truck traveling on a street in Painesville marked No
Through Trucks? I hazard to guess but not many. Last summer I witnessed a PPD vehicle behind a semi that had traveled down Chestnut St (marked no Through Trucks) heading south. it did not stop at any business on Chestnut St. and made a left turn onto Mentor Ave. and a right on Newell St. As the police car headed east on Mentor Ave.
As a former truck driver when a community decides to enforce these laws the word gets out fast, most companies will hold the driver responsible. It ain't cheap. In my driving career I have been stopped over 20 times in Bedford, Maple Height, Garfield Ht. without a ticket due to the fact I was delivering milk to a school on that street. Only reason for not getting a ticket. If these communities enforced this so should Painesville
Plus it is way past the time for both the county as well as the state to hold the city responsible for that embankment. It's an election year?

Just occurred to me that trying to get a 53' trailer around the corner of S State And Walnut St would be close to impossible.
The turns are far too tight.
There would be no way to do it without the truck leaving its lane and forcing traffic to back up.
What if the auto drivers simply can't/won't back up?

Looks like it is time to fix it properly instead of the usual Painesville "patch and pray".

What's with your "poor, poor Andrew Flock" crap. He wasn't an indentured servant. You act like someone made him continue to take that office FOR DECADES when everyone I know, and everyone I know in his Ward, Ward 1, to be sure, wanted him out of there DECADES AGO. And what...you say don't call him, call Shoop, like it was just such a problem having calls that he ran for office to take. Well, that's because it WAS a problem for him to take the calls. He didn't do anything about 99.9% of the calls and problems that people and his neighborhood had all those years he was in office. So poor, poor Andrew could have stepped down at any time and let someone who actually wanted to do the job have it. Poor Andrew...give us a break. How many years did he have the office -- 30?! Whatever the number of years was -- more than 25 that I know of -- that's how long people in his Ward were asking him not to take the office again. And now it's just such a horrible thing to be associated with it, and to even THINK about those calls. Don't let the door hit ya, Andrew...

I wish they would fix the sinking manhole at Bank & Walnut.

Just came north on S State St.
Four City trucks, including some sort of vacuum truck, with an open man hole just south of Walnut St.
This can't be good.

7:20 No never a good sight but VACTOR is at the scene! Hope no ones basement backed up?
6:35 Report it to your council person Katie Jenkins.
12:24 53' trailers isn't it amazing what the trucking lobby can pass through state legislatures? I see very few streets anywhere where the truck can make a turn without breaking the law.
5:17 Talk about wishing a door would hit them in the A**! You have zero idea what your talking about ,again. Flock served 20 years and at his last meeting countless Ward I residents as well as others wished him well and thanked him for his service. I had never seen that before. Second if Andrew wanted to run for another 20 years I don't believe he would have been challenged. You are a very bitter angry person hiding behind a keyboard to try to impress people of what little you know or do about anything. See I'm done with you. Andy is just another private citizen that probably knew you were some kind of head case. No more Flock this or that I control the delete key!
What's sad is you don't have someone to complain about (presently) I expect a new person to take Andy's place soon. You are what's wrong with Painesville my dear please look in a mirror.
To the Painesville Pride it's time for a new picture. That was my point.

In reply to the question of why Police don't enforce truck weights, I asked on a different post about enforcing jaywalking and littering. Same as vehicles parked in yards, etc., etc.

Some say police are too busy? I think they just believe they are too good to be enforcing "Minor" annoyances. Sure each one is minor, but keep adding them all up and it makes this city look terrible.

9:01 Agreed. Years ago we had a garage sale and Mr Schira stopped by to inform us our sign was improper because it was in the driveway on the sidewalk. Oh and don't think of putting it on the tree lawn (city property) or the edge of the front property line (blocks the view). So now the PPD doesn't do this because they are too busy? Now Why and what changed? According to what I was told the complaints go elsewhere and the elsewhere people will handle it. BUT they are understaffed and cant do it either. So that explains why Nothing Ever Gets Done and the town looks like Tijuana.

One of the biggest violators of the "no parking on lawns" rule is apparently the manager of the Waste Treatment Plant who lives on North State. If that's his house, he's got cars all over the lawn all of the time. Bet there was no citations issued there.
