"SUMMER N THE CITY" lovin' spoonfuls

'All around people looking half dead'

You don't have to look to hard or to far to find someone who has a complaint about one city department or another. It seems to be the nature of the beast.

You have to be tough to put up with a lot of the crap that goes around here. I thought with a new administration things would change, and to some degree it has. But it seems it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Being rude just must come with the turf.

Along with if you somehow cross one of these department heads or inspectors you may pay an expensive price. Some instances were pretty obvious like the hoops Steele Mansion had to go through. Then there are others where average residents just get caught in this tangled web.

The first thing I would ask is that the city monitor and tape ALL conversation between a resident and someone who is answering the phones at City Hall or to different city departments. This may lower blood pressure amongest residents. Also the rudeness that some show  on site discussions. Inspectors should be taught who pays their salaries and to treat those people with a little more respect. I'm not suggesting they kiss someone's a**, just be a little civil to them. In the big scheme of things you really aren't anyone welding that much power.

First off, to certain city employees that own rental property in Painesville please  pay your property taxes. Then again, if all of us didn't pay ours, maybe we would have fixed up the multitudes of violations you seem to find in our properties. I guess I have to add... who inspects your property?

Second, quit suggesting to delinquent renters what they should do with their rent payments. Put them in escrow?  Really? One of the reasons they're getting evicted is due to months of nonpayment of rent. Never realized the city inspectors provided this kind of service.

Also, do inspectors have the power to 'Stop Order' utilities to a homeowner? Let's see, if a renter is kicked out on Monday you shut off all utilities on Tuesday? By who's decree? And mark it as a vacant property to boot? City Council should review some of the Ordinances recently passed by them... it seems inspectors are not taking it in the vein in which they were passed.

To many of you in charge in the city, news flash....currently only 47% of the people live in homes they purchased... the other 53% are rentals. May not like it but facts are facts. And for those of you that would like to know where I got those numbers...if I can navigate the National Census site...so can you.

Isn't it time that the powers that be quit pretending that we are something that we are not? Instead of the punitive policies against renters and landlords (over half of the city population), deal with reality as it is rather than as you wish it were. And for the lower level city echelon - quit undermining landlords that are trying to keep decent properties...especially since some of you are allegedly one of them.

Who watches the watchers?

And to Mr. Carson I think it's past time you took a certain 'inspector' to the woodshed she think she is responsible for things she's not. Case in point if your interested I will share the name of a city resident she has been quite rude too.

Also I have checked this post with my attorney and this time I don't expect a police detective to ask for my computer.

And could the watchers please pay their property taxes they owe before making life miserable for some that live here in Painesville not out in Western Geauga County?

While Mr. Trump is trying to build a fence, along with trying to stop Ford from building a 2.5 Billion dollar plant in Mexico. Have the Donald check on Hershey Bars and Reese Cups that are now made in Monterey, Mexico? Production has ended in  Pennsylvania . Now only a distribution site.

Is there some sort of City Ordinance that allows a City employee to turn off utilities to a house without due process?
If so, where do I find it so I can see how it reads?
Isn't this, more or less, what Judge Lawson complained about, a lack of due process?

TERM,

You are writing well today..

I have heard that the rental percentage is higher than that. The census is 5 years old, right? Or do they update year to year?

Detective? Your computer? Are you serious?

The city has spent a small fortune in sending people to those classes on how to be all kinds of warm and fuzzy. I feel that for the most part the department heads and workers do an exceptional job. Yet from what I see, hear and read its the new city manager that needs that training in how to fix his people skills not the staff.

Who is the watcher that isn't paying his/her property taxes. It is public knowledge on taxes but I just don't know who to look under. They should be held accountable. They're holding us accountable. TERM, one of your better posts.

11:40 latest figures available. The computer story? Let's say the city employee mentioned here owned a business out in Chesterland and a city resident [not me] visited the property and commented on how well, NOT! this inspector was following ordinances. Seemed they were just curious. A few days after posting that comment I received a call from a Painesville Detective who wanted my computer? Seems this city worker felt threatened by this stalker.? I informed the detective not without a court warrant. No threat was in that comment. But you must understand why I thread lightly now.
11:40 there's just a small minority that the classes didn't help? It seems more important that the city manager is respected and not loved? It seems to me many grew very comfortable under the former CM.
Let's see if they are held accountable?

Oreo cookie production moving to Mexico. Mr. Trump claims he hasn't eaten his last Oreo cookie. Cookies, candy, cars? What will we have left after all the greed is done?

There you go again, blasting employees on this site. You are going to get innocent people in trouble or fired by what you say here. If it didn't directly involve you or was hearsay from someone, you shouldn't put stuff like this here. Go to city hall with the facts and talk to someone.

5:11 here I come again. If only one or two residents made this claim I could be skeptical but not with the number that have told me this. Now if the phone calls were taped to the different departments it might show that the residents were rude. What's your fear? I make enough suggestions at city hall as it is. Now about those property taxes? hearsay?
10:34 Quite a situation, no Oreo's no Hershey bars wonder what's next? Oh and no matter who's President those jobs aren't coming back unless we quit buying them.

I just read a list of ordinance in Painesville Pride. One was about having indoor furniture outdoors in Painesville.
Since reading this I noticed 4 houses that have violated this. One on Chestnut with a love seat, 732 Cedarbrook, a chair 376 Lucille a chair cant remember the other as driving by. What gives? And why aren't these people fined?AND a huge motorhome past the frontage on Cedarbrook. You'd think the city was rolling in dough and didn't need to collect any fines, but we know better dont we?

11:47 Pretty good observation? That chair at 732 is mine. It was suggested by my surgeon that when sitting outside after my two foot operations I was told to keep them elevated. Now I kept the chair pretty well hidden and when I'm not sitting in it I cover it with a outdoor lawn furniture cover. To really see it hidden from the flowers you have to come up on the porch when I'm sitting in it? Now what city official or anyone new been on the porch? I know. You should be glad someone can still afford a motorhome that lives here. It is put in storage when not in use. Wow another 'watcher' or the same one?

Term,
11:47 sounds a lot like an inspector with an axe to grind, doesn't he/she?

5:20 I don't think so, but I do know who has recently been on the porch.

Now that you mentioned it, your chair has been visible from the street. So stop blaming the resident local raccoon or skunk family. It wasn't them.

12:22 The chair will be in the garage. Resident raccoon or skunk family? No way but a slithering snake has been seen in the neighborhood recently.
I hate being judgmental.

Hot News - someone's working on getting Fox 8, etc. to come do an expose on the shady goings on with city administration and council will have lots of splainin to do if they don't wake up before the news shows up. Lets dummy down the job qualifications and hire a secretary without any experience to run an entire department? That's just one of many problems to show up.
