"BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL" beach boys

Sure was  different school board meeting from last month when I was the only "visitor" to attend.
This month the room was filled almost to capacity. When entering I asked "are they giving a car away tonight?"

I was unaware of any new scandal but as I looked around I recognized teachers and staff from Harvey.

As the meeting stared student Nathan Webster was introduced as the spelling bee champion for the district  (his fourth time)
Samantha Weber a fifth grader was runner-up. ( I expect to see Miss Weber at many future spelling bee award presentations.)

Mr. Bull discussed "Race to the Top" as well as a new program "Straight A" on another note the computer labs brought into the schools when built  in 2007 well their obsolete seem computers  go to people and people no longer go to computers. Nothing will be wasted but the computer labs will become literacy labs. with a different format. 30 chrome books will also be added to the labs.

No mention of the change to hours instead of days. Or any discussion of "Blizzard Bags" at tonight's meeting . Fine I'll ask again at the April 14, 2014 meeting.

Now for the "meat" of the meeting. Wendy Camper a former teacher at Elm St. Elementary gave a project update on her 5th grade single gender classroom project. All I can tell you if you want to see what a teacher can accomplish when they think "outside the box". Physical activity 10 minutes an hour. "Get them tired out and they will listen" Her knowledge that teachers talk to much, class presentations on a video screen instead of her doing it live? Special Tuesday dress shirt and tie, school service helping kindergartner's from day one in the cafeteria. Watch her presentation on the school channel it's well worth your time.
As one student mentioned to its "knowing who you are and what you want"  The only drawback was another teacher had 24 girls and 3 boys in her class. The project was funded for one year and presently isn't being done this year. I have been told Ms. Camper is presently working out of the board office. Oh, and if your wondering her class scored high in all phases of student achievement.

Now what's with all the Harvey staff and teachers present at the board meeting? Showing support for their Principal. Well a teacher made a presentation to the board of the turn around the past two years at Harvey. I guess most have seen the results from taking Harvey from "Saved by the Bell" status, to a Safe Learning Institution. The reason?  Principal McWreath has taken a wild west town and brought peace to Dodge. So what seems to be the problem? It seems the administration has not offered a contract to Mr. McWreath for the upcoming years. It was mentioned to me that they just let him "twist in the wind" Well he won't twist long he has a family to feed, and with his qualifications he won't be out on the market to long. Then we will hear how Mr. McWreath was snatched away from us. For the life of me when we find something that works in Painesville it seems the first reaction is to get rid of it?

I guess if you care anything about Harvey you will call all board member and ask what seems to be the problem?

The Harvey FBLA team were state champions this year Thank you Students and Mrs. Rapport

As mentioned before the Harvey High Band will lead the parade down Main St. Disneyworld.
A Spaghetti Dinner will be held on March 19, 2014 dinner tickets are $5.00. take out available.
Seem our Superintendent will be manning the kitchen. Maybe his real last name is Shepardio?

Principal McWreath has been a great addition to Harvey High School and I can't understand why the Board Members aren't rushing to extend his contract.
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised....after all the majority of our current BOE members tried to hire Dr Robert Moore. The same Robert Moore who was recently arrested in Richmond Heights for theft in office. What were they thinking? What are they now? Please keep McWreath!

WE also have a very good Principal at ELM!! she is doing allot! the school has never been like this I HOPE THE administration gives her all the support!! and lets her do what she needs to do!! Who knows what they are thinking.
I don't think they even know! If you ask the members of the BOE they will claim that they never offered Dr. Moore a contract. If anyone had done their homework Dr. Moore should have NEVER been at the "Meet the Candidate" session! He should have NEVER been a candidate! We don't offer McWreath a contract and he has worked hard to turn around Harvey and yet we "hide" an assistant elementary principal (Elm's former principal) who could not turn that school around and we continue to pay him a salary of $90,000. to do little! Same old stuff just different faces!

FYI - no administrative contracts have yet been renewed/extended. This is due to the new state evaluation system for both teachers and principals. It is just as frustrating to everyone since dates for completion of evaluations have been set to May 1 instead of April 1. No certificated staff will have renewed contracts until May meeting. I agree that Mr. McWreath has done an outstanding job at HHS - we don't want to lose him.

Grammar, punctuation, and proper sentence structure would go a long way toward getting your point across.
BTW, turn off your caps lock key too.

Look if anyone from the school administration is reading this. You got some big issues you need to take care of.
Please look around you might see thing your not happy with. Remember rules are for everybody, Friendships can cause blindness.

It is just good practice to notify your administrators if you intend to offer them a contract or not- before the deadline and NOT leave them "twisting in the wind". Most other districts extend that courtesy and PCLS used to. Why not now?
Perhaps upper administration is at times intimidated by Mr. McWreath, he is vey action orientated and outspoken.
It is quite evident he has the support of his staff.
Harvey has become an institute for education. FINALLY good students who want to learn and know how to behave have the advantage. Teachers and staff can see how all the positive changes have made a real difference.
Why when we have good people do we fail to recognize, until it is too late?

11:25 Agree 100%. I'm starting to think if good people are what some around here want?
Someone once told me good people go to good places........OK
But good people will also stay in good places when they are appreciated and treated right.

If you read the News Herald on Thursday the Mentor Board of Education has already issued a contract to their Superintendent.
As late as several years ago discussions about what staff that would be returning HAD to be completed by April 30th of that year. If not told one way or the other that staff person was automatically rehired. To say that now because of the new evaluation system it will take longer doesn't fly! Mentor has many more staff to evaluate than PCLS! Again it amazes me to think that you have a staff person that has done his job very well and their is even a small question about his contract!

Mr. McWreath has indeed brought peace to Dodge (aka Harvey High School). He has brought discipline, respect, good citizenship, and an emphasis on academics back to HHS. He has raised the bar with both students & staff. If the supt/ asst supt ever visited Harvey, they would know that. IF they were smart, they would renew the man's contract now. Why wait? God help them if they even think of non-renewal. Staff, parents, & the community all have McWreath's back and it is well-deserved.

If they were smart they would have him go around to the other schools, train other principals and show em how it's done and done right. That's what we need.

To This is How We Do It....
You're right, but if they had wanted his influence for our other schools, they would have given him the Superintendent position.

Good Point and I am very upset they didn't. Nothing against the one in place but why have meetings, presentations and community involvement then totally disregard the opinions.
Grateful the third option wasn't chosen since he's always on the front page of the paper.

TERM
seems the great union president PCLS is starting his crap! wants to vote about calamity days. most agree to work 30 mins. over to make up the time. They got payed for already what is his problem? He is not going to work it anyways! just hide or another 30 mins. Have you found out anything from the BOE about him? and his Maintenance license and log? I will stay tuned. THANKS!

TERM I saw the post where that grandmother had to remove a condom from the child's bike. What is going on with the new schools? Is the new super is aware of the maintenance issues?

At March 27, 2014 at 4:05 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sounds like Term got lip service at his meeting. Maybe he should have gone to maintenance tech's boss in his chain. Is it Haffa or Englehart? Mr. Shephard is the man in charge of all, but the maintenance guy has a boss directly above him and I wouldn't think it's the superintendent himself. Mostly the principals are under Mr. Shephards concern not classified employees. Do your homework and check again.
