"TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN" steve miller band

Something to think about.

This was on the county ballot in November 1982.

 OFFICIAL
QUESTION AND ISSUE BALLOT

PAINESVILLE CITY
PROPOSED MUNICIPAL INCOME TAX

A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage
*********************************************************************************

"Shall the Ordinance providing for two percent (2%) levy on income on and after March 1,1983. for the purpose of general municipal operations, maintenance, new equipment, and other municipal purposes be passed?"

**********************************************************************************

30 plus years and during that time somewhere between  150 million 200 million dollars has been collected.
The reason I bring this up now is after the need for a road levy and the $8.00 a month surcharge for water department repairs that council passed last year. It begs to ask the question what
percentage of the passage of this tax has been used for MAINTENANCE?

*********************************************************************************

If your curious
FOR THE INCOME TAX              1127
AGAINST THE INCOME TAX    687

12:45 your figure is quite low. If that was true we couldn't do much. I also believe that when you look over all the time this income tax has been on the books 8:10 meant of all monies collected damn little went into maintenance.
Would like to see a 30 year breakdown. Most went to wages and benefits .

Maybe MR CARSON the new city manager, will have a meeting with the public, and let us know, what we spend the city income for. Looking at the language on the ballot, I think the past administration has been misusing the monies. WHAT SAY YOU???

To bad your father still isn't here. The Chestnut Food Mart installed (2) gambling machines in their front window.
The neighborhood now has it's own little casino! Painesville could tax winnings to pay for roads?

5:27 Why are you bringing this here? I have been told that Painesvilles administration, department heads and council are more than capable to handle this as well as any situation. Look around to see the proof.
Although I see your point blind eyes see nothing.
Plus my Dad loved card's and horse racing slots never appealed to him.
Call your councilman. He might solve this in 15 minutes?

PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, CONCORD TOWNSHIP has no income tax dollars and more residents HOW DO THEY MANAGE on this planet???

The townships do not provide any services to their residents - recreation? senior center? electric, water, sewer? That's all done by the county - that's how they survive.

5:37 Where do the township kids play softball and Baseball?
How much in dollars does Painesville send to the Senior Center? Do Township residents allowed to us it.
Electric, water, sewer? Now if a township resident does his homework and since deregulation can by into an electric plan like NEOCA and be priced within pennies of the city, don't look now but overall Painesville residents would be paying LESS for water service and sewers charges if they were with the county.
The Township does not provide police protection.
And if you work and live in the township do not collect income tax.
Any of you out there that still believe living in the city is a bargain you are mistaken. Where has all the income tax money collected just from 1983 gone? Simple. The number of employee's, along with wages and benefits.
You have created a great opportunity for 350 city employee's. 80% that would never consider Painesville home. Enjoy!

Township kids play baseball primarily at LaMuth Middle School in CLP (self supported). Softball is in the the Concord girls league (self supported) played primarily at Hadden Elementary in Painesville Township. There are no recreational programs provided by Township, if you want to do something you find it and pay for it.
Painesville Township DOES pay into the Painesville Senior Citizen Center to allow its residents to use it, not sure how much but it is appropriated each year.
Electric depends where you live, some areas are on Painesville City (at a higher rate then city residents) or through FirstEnergy.
Water depends where you live could be Ohio water or Lake County water.
Police protection provided by lake County Sheriff. There is a minimal amount provided as mandated, the Township passed a levy a few years back to specifically purchases services of one full time deputy to be in Township 24 hours a day. Township maintains its roads through property tax levy.

The township does not survive because of the county it pays for the services it needs. It survives by not wasting money on bloated programs and by coordinating manyt of its purchases with the other townships.

thank you 6:39 It sure would be nice, if painesville city council wouldn't waste their millions like they DO. shame on the city residents, for electing, and continue to re-elect Joe Hada.
