"YOUR THE ONE" vogues

I would say over 100 people attend the Q and A, of the finalist for our new school superintendent this morning at Heritage Middle School.
First off the school board should take a bow for the transparency that they have shown the residents in this search. No one can say they weren't given an opportunity to give their input.

As I said I kept an open mind when listening to all three.
A person asked Dr. Moore about signing a three year contract with Richmond Hts Schools and here he is already looking for a new job?
The answer wasn't satisfactory in my eyes and I really don't want to higher a person who isn't that committed to a contract. Been there done that.

Mr. Shepard qualification include being fluent in Spanish, a nice plus. Yet it appears he's carrying some baggage from his last job.

Many quality questions from the audience and at times I felt these two sometimes did everything but answer the questions.

Harvey Principal Mr. McWreath gave his presentation and appeared to give us an open book on his life. Many comments made were of the nature of the job he has preformed at Harvey in the last year.
He has a track record although short in Painesville we can view and judge him for his accomplishments and the changes at Harvey.
He brought up the word of the day "structure" students as well as staff and parents appreciate that being a foundation to put our school back where they belong. I as well as some others viewed his military background as a plus.

This is now in the hands of the BOE and again I thank them as well as I believe speak for many to include us in this search.

I will leave this up to you and what direction we want to take PSLS.

My vote goes to McWreath, hands down.

I felt a little more comfortable after the forum. I do however, feel that Mr. McWreath did as much, if not more, dancing around real questions. In my eyes, Mr. Shepard is by far the strongest of the three.

I felt Mr.McWreath was best for the job before hearing anyone else. Now I am convinced he is the best choice. My concern is, he made such a big impact by starting to turning the high school around, how is #2 going to handle this. When he began with the district, #1and #2 were ready to get rid of him. Now 2 has to work with him and for him or else. I am for the or else. If she doesn't like his way she can leave.
I also hope the board doesn't disappoint by not choosing the one the community wants.

McWreath needs to be given the job! He had done wonders in less then a year at the High school and believe he can do the same for the entire district. The one guy is bailing on a three year contract and the other guy was sent to work from home as a consultant. There has to be a reason and it wasn't because he was doing a good job. The BOE sent him there on the advice of their legal counsel. It was they wanted him gone and wanted to avoid the lawsuit by firing him

We want a person with experience. Van maybe a great leader but he is not superintendent ready. He couldn't answer the questions that were asked. Like someone else said he skirted around them. He turned Harvey around in 2 days, that's great..but anyone coming in after Martin is going to be held as a hero. He just isn't ready. What happens when they put him in and Ward leaves (She's not going to he around forever) ? He has zero experience as a superintendent and then we will have a new assistant as well? Scary. Why not put Van in as the assistant superintendent when that happens, let him get the experience he needs.

Our district needs someone with experience. Someone with a proven track record, someone who has raised his districts scores. Someone who is fluent in Spanish. Someone who will be our neighbor, someone who wants what's best for the city he resides in.

The guy for the job is Shepard.

Good luck to the BOE. With eveyones different opinions, no matter who you pick, it will be said "they didn't listen to us".

I personally do not know why the rush. I can't believe that out of all candidates these were the best not to mention that the job wasn't posted for long. This is not a decision to be rushed. As we see with other positions people are not moved out if they do not do the job well. There has been so much transition the past year and still no stability at the high school in the asst principal and AD positions. I believe McWreath is great for the high school but if there is another transition, it adds more instability into the education of the students. Sound familiar (Cleveland Browns). We do not need to continue to get new quarterbacks. The team cannot build or strengthen if we so not keep people in position for the terms of their contracts. Yes he is doing a great job, but we have not seen a difference in our teat scores to say he has made the necessary changes for that to happen. Before offering praise and promotion, lets see what the reults are. I believe more candidates should be made available from a national pool not local. Let's entertain some candidates from outside Ohio.

Being at the meeting what seems to be Mr. Shaperds present position where he's at?
Also maybe someone could explain what he was explaining about when he mentioned South Euclid-Lyndhurst school district?

Something to think about.
First we need a new principal at Maple, along with Elm and if the right people hear what a job McWreath has done at Harvey we might have him stolen from right under our noses.
Are any of these candidates perfect? will we ever find Mr or Ms. perfect.
As I listened to the presentation Saturday I noticed all staff members were behind Mr. McWreath now if they believe shouldn't that count as something?

Check back to past BOE minutes and find where this district paid Mr. McWreath to attend some type of superintendent seminars. That said, why isn't he qualified when his home district sent and paid for him to go?

Failed to mention also the Spanish speaking parapros were asked to be at this meeting to translate. How many Hispanics showed up?
What were they being paid to spend 3-4 hours on a Saturday doing this?

Well maybe we need two new administrators. I don't really think I would want any one to follow either of the present leaders! I like Shepherd and McWreath. Shepherd brings experience and McWreath brings the turn around. I am worried about taking McWreath from the High School. He may have begun the turn around but someone has to finish the job. Who ever gets the top position will need to work 24/7to get this system in shape by the opening day of school in Aug. We would need to get 3 new principals, new staff, and get everyone pointed in the right direction for success.
Many of those sitting in the room I was in on Sat. happen to be the ones that have played a big part in the success of PCLS in the past. Many teachers and administrators never see these people and yet we own homes, ran PTA groups, passed levies, worked on the development of the new schools, and had children all graduate from Harvey.
We CARE!

Any word if Mrs. Ward got the superintendent position in Warrensville?

Tried to go to the above site and could not find anything that leads me to believe Mrs Ward is leaving to go there but I did not thoroughly comb the site. Are you saying that she plans to leave the district? Do Tell.

WELL I FOUND IT. So now PCLS may be getting a new super and super assist? Warrensville staff, parents and community members are invited to attend a forum on Tuesday, April 9 at which two finalists for the Assistant Superintendent in the Warrensville Heights City School
The two candidates are Denise Ward and Henry Pettiegrew. Both of these candidates have experience in raising student achievement during tenure in their district.
Ms. Ward is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at Ashland University. She received her Master’s in Educational Administration from Cleveland State University and her BA in Elementary Education from John Carroll University. Dr. Pettiegrew just earned his doctoral degree in Urban Education from Cleveland State University. He received his Master’s in Educational Administration from Cleveland State and also his BA in Elementary Education from Cleveland State.

Ms. Ward began her career as a teacher in the Cleveland Heights/University Heights School District. She then moved on to become an Assistant Principal and then a Principal in the East Cleveland City School District. Later, Ms. Ward moved to Painesville City Local School District as a Principal and then in her current role as Assistant Superintendent.

Dr. Robert Moore is the man for the job, he has been an assistant superintendent and superintendent for more than one year

Hey Kids- some of you may get both your wishes. Maybe one of the candidates will be the super and the other the assistant super. Two out of three aint bad? Depends on which two.

It appears that Mr. Costell has blended into the group unlike what he was when he wanted our votes. I am also concerned that only an English message was received at our home inviting people to attend this recent meeting. On one of the blog posting it was listed that Dr. Moore has had 17 jobs in 22 years. It also has been mentioned that there are some legal concerns with him as well- so why would we even consider this person?
I believe we have a ship to run and at the moment we need someone that EVERYONE can follow. Having a Dr. with the name doesn't mean that they are good. The 90 day plan to fix PCLS is interesting but who in the world would believe this plan as it has taken at least 7 years to get to the spot we are in. This BOE needs to listen to the people that elected them which is something that they have not been doing for years! Because of the games they BOE is playing our home will not be voting for them to continue to mismanage.

8:55 One thing I have learned in the past few years when it comes to boards and councils. Your only one vote of five for the BOE, one of seven for City Council. If anyone tells you they can "fix" something by themselves there not telling you the truth.

In the end the BOE will have to answer to the public. My question is why make us wait?

I still believe Mr. Costell was a good choice. Time will prove me right or wrong.

Don't look now but Mr. Van Wreath did not get the job. He received a phone call last night telling him of the news. So it's now down to Mr.Shepherd or Dr. Moore. Again I do not hear good things about Dr. Moore. There were even more negative impressions about the two when you start to get members from the three focus groups together. This is really sad for PCLS and even more upsetting to those that really thought our opinions mattered. As for Mr. Costell he has let our family down and basically wrote off our children. As long as his were fine he didn't care of the negative experiences ours were having. We have now moved all our children out of PCLS and WILL NOT vote for any levy! Best of luck.

Mr. Costell I still have his back. Remember he is only one vote.
Now I had intended to vote for the levy absentee. I was going to vote YES if for no other reason the new superintendent didn't need to worry about a levy on his first day. Might not agree but that was my thinking. Now if the BOE doesn't announce who the super is by the time I go to the polls Tuesday I'm voting No for the reason of not naming him. Sorry might sound like a cop out but if your smart Monday you will call the board office and tell them the same thing.
They must believe we are stupid.
