"GET BACK" beatles

Well it's been awhile, again.

Glad to report that the custodian problem has been resolved?  Seems union officials from Columbus payed a visit to Painesville. So to some of you the union does resolve things.

Now can someone explain why a Principal was MIA for five days? What is their position for next year.

School comments are the most interesting comments left on the blog. Many comment that they expect more for their children than they are receiving. I don't believe most want their children to be used in some social experiment.

See the city honored some for contributions made to the city? Three I believe were on the city payroll doing their jobs? Paine, Huntington, and Casement would be proud.

I see Painesville Council is doing interviews for a new city manager. Have a feeling this has all been decided and just another dog and pony show.

Will leave a post on the email I sent the Charter Committee, wonder if any read it? Seems when the subject came up the former city manager threw council under the bus, again? Her story is not quite how  I remember the story.

Downtown Streetscape seems we are short some money to complete the job? Doug Lewis is asking for another $100,000+.

The bridge to nowhere exactly how wide is it, officially?

Is another road levy in Painesville's future?

Someone mentioned the $400,000 figure for CORE, Ask City Hall it was the talk of the building that morning than remember if I was off base we would have heard about it. The County is going after it's money will we? Or just write that off too?

As a lifetime resident of Painesville I still can't figure out what positives have come out of Ms. McMahons tenure as city manager? It appear's we have lost more than we gained , and please don't tell me that annexation is a plus for Painesville. In the end all this new residental property will cost us more than we will receive. If anything she should be given a failure award.
Tell me how Painesville is better off now than when she first showed up?

Somethings wrong with a city group that has to blow its own horn time after time. The downtown Painesville group brags and brags but I don't see much happening? Well, without taxpayers money being involved. No one will go downtown until there is a reason to go there. flowerpots and B.S. ain't the answer.
Do they really believe we're that stupid?

I'll add something else to your list: the riff-raff who congregate in certain areas of downtown. No matter how much money the city pours into revamping Main Street, these individuals - and a lack of free parking - would keep away potential shoppers, even if there were more stores. I know people who have even stopped going to Morley Library, due to the loiterers on the main floor and outside the entrance. Certainly, what to do about this group is beyond the scope of the city, but it's a problem that's not going to go away any time soon, no matter how much is spent on paint and flower pots.

PAINS VILLE deserves the quality of leadership you willing to put up with and nothing more.

Core - County going after their money ?

Good luck ... they have gone out of business, bankruptcy and liquidation ...

Why are your posts so vague?
What custodian situation?
What principal?
Who was honored? When? For what?
Who cleans house & yard work for whom?
Why post this stuff if it can't be clarified?

Can you shed some light as to why we are going to pay Dr. Hanolon through December? Won't he be working for Chardon starting in July?

5:23 Only the BOE can answer that question.
9:19 There was a large article on Mondays 04/07/12 News-Herald I believe it is still on there web site.
Maybe you should find this stuff on your own?
I clarified it.
6:44 Your 100% right to bad people running Painesville haven't figured this out.
1:31 I will check into that.

"Resiential property is always a tax drain, business is a tax gain."

Are you really that naive?
Contrary to what politicians will tell you, businesses do NOT pay taxes. They merely collect the tax money, as required by law, and pass it on.
If the taxes go up, they raise their prices on their goods or services to reflect the change. Who pays when the business raises its prices? Why you, the customer does.
In the end, it is ALWAYS the customer paying the tax.
Saying that "business is a tax gain" is delusional. The money they "pay" comes from somewhere.

Jim, look at your residential property tax bill. How much does the City of Painesville receive? Don't count school levies. Now with what Painesville receives they must provide you with police and fire, snowplowing maintence of roads (well they are supposed too.) all recreation and all other services.
The businesses pay property tax,and in Painesville their employee's pay city income tax. Thats why you would rather have commercial rather than residential property, You look at Heisley Park and Cobblestone it would be interesting to know what percentage pay city income tax?
If say Home Depot was in Painesville all those employee's would pay Painesville income tax instead of Mentors.
All that property at one time was called Diamond Business Center. Please administrators show us the businesses dont just give it to us.

Term,
You are (I think) partially missing my point and making my point at the same time.

I understand that those properties pay more tax than I do BUT they only pay it as a "pass along" from the customer to the City. They don't actually pay it, they collect it.

When more taxes are levied, they raise their prices to compensate. They sure as heck don't rely on the shareholders to come up with more money to pay the increase.

Employees paying a City income tax is an apples and oranges comparison. That is not the business paying the tax at all.

That being said, don't think for a minute that I am anti-business. far from it. I want lots of business here. It is just that there are people (like every politico selling a tax increase) who want you to believe that more taxes on a business will lessen the load of the home owner. The homeowner still pays for it, just in a different form.

I'm with 9:19. Half the time I don't know what you are alluding to. It would be nice if you would have the complete information so everyone would know what you are talking about.

Again, complete information. Stating check the BOE minutes means nothing. When? Which BOE meeting? The date is necessary as they post all past minutes and could be looking like a needle in a haystack if one has no idea what to look for. I was one of the people out of town on spring vacation when whatever the news was that hit the News Herald. You must not have all the correct details if you want us to read it in the paper and not here.

3:40 Start with the last BOE minutes. I hope your getting your information from other places too?
Want to learn about the awards go to the downtown Painesville site.

The only money CORE owed in utility bills was for the bill due in March. About $100,000. $60,000 was for electric, the rest was water and sewer. People at city hall must see you coming and start making it up.

At April 16, 2013 at 11:11 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

A payment was made but not to the total, Council-President Hada mentioned at a council meeting the $65,000 check was an arrangement between the city and CORE to catch up in late payments? If CORE has paid it's bill in full I am sure the administration would announce that to the community?
As I am constantly asked show me the proof?

At April 16, 2013 at 2:27 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

wile you may think a grand announcement that a company paid its bill is appropiate possibly others do not feel that doing the expected is. Again instead of investigating something that may be positive you avoid it. Call your councilman and ask if they paid in full

At April 16, 2013 at 10:57 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

As you said to someone else in an earlier post, "Do your own research." I did mine.

At April 17, 2013 at 4:45 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why would they announce it to the community? The arrangement between Core and city administration is a private legal matter, and therefor wouldn't be announced to the community. If you want to know, ask your council person. I did, and can say that Core paid up what was owed.

At April 17, 2013 at 9:25 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

2:27,10:57,4:45 You have left me with quite a delemma. First the POC as well as myself has tried to get information from city hall even to see if we had more caustic customers out there.
The citys reply;
The information you are requesting is exempted under Ohio Open Records Law See ORC 149.43 Availiability of public records for inspection and copying.
Public Records does not mean any of the following bb) Usage information including names and addresses of specific residential and commercial customers of a municipally owned or operated public utility.
So unless you are a city employee or know someone who is, you are breaking the law? Or maybe covering for someone.
I will stand by my numbers for many reasons first CORE must have many vendors they owe money to and *I don't see Painesville getting their money before everyone else along with the Council-President admitting they were on some repayment program.
So unless you can show us a paid in full invoice you have nothing.
It would be interesting if you shared your research.

Check the minutes, check the minutes. Well I did and I found an answer to the principal dilemma but nowhere any information about a custodian and the union big mucks coming here? Again, what are you saying in your veiled comments? My paper is long gone and there is nothing on the NH site from the
7th. What was the heading so I can narrow it down?

but did you ask your councilman?

11:30 Well why would there be anything about a custodian if nothing was changed?
Look tommorrow 04/19/13 at the Painesville Elks Club between 11:30/1:30pm awards will be given to Rita McMahon, Jarod McCrone, David Whittaker, from the city along with business people from the downtown area such as Maureen Conwayto name one.
Go to the downtown painesville site if you need more information.
Lunch will cost you $25.00.

Did you play the game Telephone as a kid? Cuz you sure don't make any sense here. You posted - Glad to report that the custodian problem has been resolved? Seems union officials from Columbus payed a visit to Painesville... Yet when people reading this don't understand what you are talking about, you won't answer their questions. Why is this? Maybe there really wasn't a story at all. Or maybe you do what you accuse council of doing, avoid it and sweep it under the rug?

11:01 Look maybe you should check-in more often? The custodian post was "SECOND CHANCE" 38special.
Sorry I don't feel the need to repeat now go to the archive and read "SECOND CHANCE"
Cuz I neither have a broom or rug the size of council.

but you ask your councilman about CORE? or have your asked your city hall source who told you about them not paying? Or a 15,000.00 raise for someone your new accusation? If your boss transfered you from one building in the plant to another would there be a investigation by the companies customers?

At April 19, 2013 at 11:29 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It was a move from 1 position to another. Who has to talk about it? It's done all the time. And sometimes whether a person wants to or not. They do it. Ask other employees and they'll tell you the same thing. It's no big deal to administration but it is to the person moved unwillingly.

4:20 Its against state law to take an electric department worker and use him in Parks& Recreation.
About that raise go ask the city for information concerning financial payments to the finance director.

Financial payments to the finance director? Can you elaborate?

At April 20, 2013 at 6:03 PM , Anonymous city worker said...

Look it's public record. Check salaries of ALL department heads over the last five years from the Doug Lewis to any department head.
At the same time ask yourself what those electric plant workers do all day. Why the salary for the electric department head if we're not generating electricity?
