"COUNCIL MEETING 04/15/13

Couple of interesting things to discuss at Monday's meeting.

Two resolution's caught my eye. The first a Resolution for the Millstone/Gristmill WRRSP program. This will be funded 100% by the Ohio EPA in the resolution the cement retaining wall will be removed. Last I check that wall was owned by the Bear? Someone mentioned the state payed him many jars of honey to purchase that property.

Also the Ashlawn Energy Vanadium Redox Battery Demonstration. Seems this is a perfect example of how a former city manager can mislead a council. The deal was Ashlawn received a grant for research and development for this battery and Painesville obligation was to construct a $400,000 building to house the battery. That's what was told to council at the time of the vote. So what's the problem now?
One fact that was left out although Ashlawn had received R&D financing they didn't have the financing to actually build these batteries?
So now if Ashlawn can't find financing for the batteries Painesville is stuck with this building.

This is what I mean that people are voting on something without all the facts being told to them.

Term ....thought you might like this for a new topic to get word out...got an email today about it.....

The Painesville City Local School Board has named three finalists in its search for their next district superintendent. The Board is inviting the community and staff to meet the finalists and participate in a “meet-and-greet” Question and Answer session. The three applicants are:

Dr. Robert Moore II - Richmond Heights School District
Mr. Van McWreath - Painesville City Local School District
Mr. John T. Shepard - Northridge School District

The finalists were selected from a pool of 25+ applicants and will be introduced in a forum to be held this Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Heritage Middle School (135 Cedarbrook Drive, Painesville).
The forum will be divided into three 45 minute time slots. The public and staff will have an opportunity to ask each finalist questions and hear their vision for the school district. Comment cards will be available to give feedback to the Board as they consider their selection of the next district superintendent.

Since February, the Board has engaged the public in several community and staff forums related to the superintendent search. Additionally, the Board received responses to its superintendent search online survey. The data and comments have been reviewed and used in the selection process. The Board is expected to announce the new superintendent before May 1st.

I think his comment was kindof tongue and cheek and not to be taken seriously. Freebies to council members would be conflict of interest. Besides, he doesn't look like he eats many cupcakes.

Ashlawn lines there pockets with federal grant money and somehow Painesville is at fault? Go after the offender, not the victim. I'm sure that building can be repurposed. Maybe some peak shaving generators?

The BOE has announced the 3 finalist for the Superintendent position. There will be a meet and greet 10AM Saturday 4/20 at Heritage Middle School. I plan to keep an open mind until I hear all the candidates, but I must admit, my favorite is the current principal at HHS, Mr Van McWreath. See PCLS website for more details.

4:50 Odd how some can see sarcasm in Mr. Hachs remarks but not mine? Kind of selective?
3:07,9:25 A post is coming.
10:07 Ashlawn wants something from us? How about a promise in writing that they will produce these batteries in Painesville for ten years. I'm afraid the project will move after the have used us.

Richmond Heights schools are pretty much in our wheelhouse. both have close to each other in low scores. The other super quit and worked from home. The school board felt his resigation was a mutual benefit to all?
Yet it's odd we are even considerating these two?

How odd was it for Chardon to consider the 2 from Painesville? Then picked the one that allowed the 50% grading policy at Harvey.
What were they thinking? Lets hope Painesville doesn't make the same mistake. Keep Mr. McWreath.
