"COUNCIL MEETING 02/07/11

If you plan on attending bring your pajama's.
8 ORDINANCES, 5 RESOLUTIONS. Plus a presentation from the Police Department.
We have three resolutions authorizing grant applications for the three new parks. New bucket truck for the Electric Dept. "One" new police cruiser.
Ordinance relating to classified positions, One relating to a subdivision regulation? Housing code, parking and storage of vehicles, Permits and Fees, Property maintenance, Rental Dwelling Regulation. One concerning unsafe structures. And the beat goes on.
The one that intrigues me the most is ENACTING SECTION 1113.211 RELATING TO SUBDIVISION REGULATION.

#####################################################################################

Attended Mondays council meeting everything passed as expected. One item that was brought up was the purchase of a new bucket truck for $185,000 dollars. The CM said that replacement parts were unavailable for the hydraulic's on this truck. City councilman Andrew Flock asked how many miles were on this truck? He was told that this truck had 30,000 miles, his quote was this is a sin. Now the city claim that the bucket portion of this truck was the problem. Council President Hada chimed in that the workers using this vehicle must be safe. Now why can't the truck have a new body put on it? Also who wants to bet that the bucket parts on the new truck will be manufactured by the same company? $185,000 $20,000 trade-in, can any one say $165,000 added to the "Power Factor"

Want to bet it has something to do with water and basements?

Want to bet if you go to the city web site and read the managers report it tells you exactly what all of them are!

At February 6, 2011 at 8:56 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

....To 7:55...Weelll...not exactly. The manager's report just sort of whets your appetite...does it include a future phase of a present development? Or is that excluded and its really just a gesture so people will think something got done while more basements are dug into a high water table? See what I mean..doesn't really cover what needs to be covered. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised and someone will come out and actually state the answer to my question.

I WISH TERM. WAS OUR CM I BET EVERYTHING WOULD BE PERRRFECT.

Won't happen, but I would be cheaper.

Term, please tell me your not surprised? The city has done nothing to cut costs. 30,000 miles this truck can't be 5 years old,
yet they can't find replacement parts?
This is how government operates at all levels.

Maybe the CM should start clipping coupons!

Today, I received great news from Time Warner Cable, my cable service cost is going up...again? Why a 8% increase, the cost of living rate hasn't increased half that amount!

12:22 This is like anything in life. The maket drives the price,
on most any commodity. I have been told most programs can be accessed on their computer. Until enough peopkle start canceling cable, or dish the price will rise.
I had a friend that watched the Super Bowl on their computer.

A long with this waste of money, new bucket truck with spending $20,000 for half a year on a recycling center, that is reality is just another place to dump trash. The list goes on and on. Wonder when Joe Hada will worry about all city residents as he does the city employees?
He's had over 30 years to prove himself.
The hospital still stands with a $1000 aday fine, who gets the money? This project looks like a Mickey Mouse operation from the start.

By the way the truck is 11 years old, and if you clowns knew anything about LINEWORK you need good equipment to work on the electric when idiot drivers are running into poles knocking out the power.Oh yeah our reliabilty is also much better than any private electric company.

The truck is 11 years old and only has 30,000 miles? 2,727 miles a year? That vehicle should be like new.
On another point could you guys state putting up the lightpoles straight? Every stree seems to have them leaning one way or another.
Keep the truck for another use ,or repalce the bucket portion.

You'd be cheaper? I dont believe that for a minute. With all the responsibilities she has and all the elbow rubbing functions she has to do in the evenings, she isnt paid enough. Compare her salary to the schools superintendents. Oh wait I forgot hes a man; that in itself means he will make more. As the volunteer mayor of Owego now the CM would be a pay raise for you SIR.

You know, the people who run this city lost us millions AGAIN - this time on the AMP deal, AND they lost us a hospital, etc., etc., etc., but STILL people stick up for them. I don't get it.

1.11, it's simple. Our city administrators are democrats. They are driving us into the ground. The control that our local government is using to keep us subservient is the same control the national democratic leader is doing. It's the same correlation. And yet democrats will defend democrats no matter what.

At February 12, 2011 at 1:46 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 8:34: OMG - WHO are Democrats? You are blaming what Hada, McMahon, Fountain and Hach have done to this city on them being Democrats? Which ones are Democrats?

And you are saying that Obama is trying to keep us subservient. Oh, yeah, right, by what means? Last I saw, he gave us all kinds of power back by keeping the big businesses of America (credit card companies, insurance companies, etc., etc.) from sticking it to us and having all the means necessary to get away with it.

Sticking it to the citizens is not usually a Democratic trait. Who is this city council, etc. is a Democrat and which ones are Republicans?

At February 12, 2011 at 4:41 PM , Anonymous Wolverine said...

It has nothing to do with Dems or Republics and a lot to do with letting go. Let it go an act of God/nature took away condominiums, move on so those people can put that past behind. Let it go the hospital didn't want to be located in the county seat and deal with the poor and homeless. Let it go our economy is in the toilet and things have come to a halt until it gets better. At least with the city no one has had to lose their job as the schools are now doing. Let go of the past and move forward. Nothing can be done by sitting around complaining, it just makes one miserable. Get out and run for an office. Be the change YOU want to see.

Its a matter of public record what party council members are affiliated with...just like anyone else you might be interested in. Since city politics is supposed to be non-partisan I'll leave parties out of it and just ask why a majority continues to spend money we don't have on things we don't need.

To Wolverine: "Let it go" is what most people do. Sit around and just let it go. That's how this city and the country got into this mess. That's also how we got into, and continue to stay in, this illegal immigration mess we are in. Too many people sitting around and just letting it go like you propose. it just allows those that have done all this to continue to do so.

Annonymous,February 12,
Let go of the Past means to Start Fresh. STOP digging up the past and move forward.
And just what are you doing to be a mover and shaker for Painesville?

At February 13, 2011 at 9:08 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wolverine, this is Feb.12: Again, NOBODY should forget the past. And certainly not as it has occurred in this city. To forget it would mean that nobody would be striving to change it, or to change the people that have done the things they did to get us here. You can remember the past and still move forward. They are not mutually exclusive.

What are YOU doing to be a mover and shaker for Painesville? Answer your own rude question.

At February 14, 2011 at 3:26 PM , Anonymous B.E.WARE said...

Wolverine, I can somewhat agree with letting go of the past, but how can you do that with the same people at the helm.
Until enough people get good and fed up and go to board meeting and council meeting and explain their displeaser with the ways things are done around here. We will live in the past.

At February 14, 2011 at 4:07 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (Santanaya) This has been proven over and over and we now have a perfect object lesson here at the local level. We cannot afford to forget the mistakes of the past administrations lest we allow the present group in charge to exacerbate those errors.
For example:
Why would we even consider another venture with AMP - Ohio when we have a huge tab (with nothing to show for it) for a previous deal. How about embroiling the city in a drawn out land deal that we had no business being involved in (Millstone) when we just recently purchased a swamp for a quarter of a million dollars? I can go on...and on...

and how often is councilman werner going to thrive on the past and the old mikes cafe. everything he has read is based on stuff that happened many years ago and has no bearing on the current owners. as for the restraining order it is true and has been seen by council members and the police department. The guy needs to get a grip and be replaced as a councilman. Everything he does or says is for his own benefit.

At February 14, 2011 at 6:08 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, Werner definitely needs to be replaced as a councilman. He a real piece of work, and I don't mean that in a nice way. We have to make sure we have someone better to replace him first though.

At February 14, 2011 at 6:40 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Werner gives historians a bad name...you are right....all his grand-standing is for his personal agenda which doesn't do a thing for anyone but himself and his re-election campaign. Its been that way since day one. Lets hope that young man that ran last time is willing to step up again..or maybe 'Adam' ...he sounds sensible.

I beleive Hal had good intentions and expected more co-operation from fellow councilpeople and the administration.[He thought he would be welcomed with open arms] He didn't realize how he upset the applecart. Did anyone on council call and congradulate him on his victory? Sorry, that business next door got the best of him.He really should have been as concerned about finding a business to fill the empty Coe property.
When you run for office and you spend so much time and money to get elected you might start doing and voting with your re-election in mind. This is the road to failure. You are better off serving your term and voting what you believe rather then how this will be viewed by the voters. You should always beable ton look a resident in the eye and know your intentions were made to make Painesville a better place.
Don't buy a home near railroad tracks and complain, don't buy near a factory, and complain. What would posess a person that would buy property next to a bar, with as Hal stated with a checker pass?

At February 16, 2011 at 6:49 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hal has the moral code of a ... a .... a .... I can't think of one animal I would want to compare to him to. By the time he got there, he had lost the backing of a lot of the people who put him there. I am ashamed to say that I am one of those people. The only good thing about getting him into office is that it got Horvath out. Others on council tell lies about other people to make sure the other people don't get in office. As it turns out, Hal is no better than them. We need someone better. Does anybody have any ideas in that ward?

As an aside, I think Fodor is a real disappointment, too. It doesn't matter what issue is up with the citizens. He will try to sweep it under the rug so the administration does not look bad. Very unhappy with him. Is there anyone in that ward to run that would be better?

At February 17, 2011 at 5:44 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 6:49...I think the animal you are looking for is a chameleon...changing colors (sides) to suit himself. His childlike behavior over the bar will probably sink him. Even people that might have agreed with him got tired of hearing about it...especially when it was so blatantly exaggerated. I was almost embarrassed for him because he beat that dead horse so hard.

If I remember correctly CM MacDonald was the one who approved the urban renewal and destroyed this city. When the mall came to Mentor, people choose to do their shopping there and not locally. Who was the finance director, Miller? That lost money but a lot was recovered. These people are long gone and that's what I mean by moving on. The hospital is gone, thinking they are in greener pastures (wait for a takeover from the clinic or UH. Be pro-active yourselves, contact a business you want to come here, contact economic development with not only your complaints but your ideas too. Else, go to Your Vine and get some cheese for your whine.

Wolverine, You make a good point. Painesville was the business and government hub of the county. The Great Lakes Mall is older then our urban renewal, along with places like Bargin Fair, Giant Tiger ect.
The city leaders somehow were lead to believe a Mall setting with a parking garage would save commercial trade in town. Success has many friends, failure none.
We have made many mistakes in the past and we seem to be doing the same now. When and how do we stop?
