"COUNT ME IN" gary lewis and the playboys

Well it seems the only thing the school board decided to do Monday night was for the board members to pay the election board $600.00 for a recount of the votes. Good Luck.
I for some reason can't get myself to understand the numbers, The administration claims since 2008 they have made 3 million dollars in cuts. Then they tell me that if the levy passed $950,000 would have been added to the general fund. The had a proposal that would cut 2.5 million out of the 2011-12 budget. So instead of drowning in 2.5 million dollars of debt we would have only drowned in 1.6 million dollars of debt?
The presentation can be viewed on the school web. site early Tuesday. You figure it out.
The administration gave a price tag of $700,000 to the Professional Learning Community. Mr. Thompson is behind this program also.
He also recommend the buildings be closed at 6:00 pm daily to save money. Remember when they told us the new building were there to enhance the lives of all city residents? Only to 6:00pm I guess?
Mr. Thompson was vocal against pay to play in athletics, 80% of our students live near the poverty level. How can we ask that family for a $100.00 check so their child can play a sport? Well, Mr. Thompson how do you ask a woman who is unemployed to add $134.00 to her property taxes? They answer their own questions?

Now the AMP factor or disclaimer. These figures were estimated on the state having a 10% cut in education. "BUT" now with a new Governor it may be as high as a 20% cut?
Making all these figures useless. We don't know the final figure. "Wallstreet Johnny Kasich" takes his first punch.

Look I was going to suggest the employees from the top down to the bottom take a 10% pay cut and a promise from the board that no layoff would take place, but when 65% of your revenue comes from the state how could anyone make a promise?

Only one thing that fried me was I got the impression that all the par-professionals would be cut except the ESL ones, what did I understand that correctly?

Angelo Cimaglio......... Mr. Thompson claims alot of false facts are being presented to the community under ANONYMOUS names. I think he thinks I sent that letter out too?

They have decided some cuts and those people will probably be notified today. Happy Holidays!

Angelo, We at the schools know who sent out the letters, and we know it was not you, so you can drop that from your boohoo list

29 votes, recount? I'm willing to bet there were 50 votes in that auditorium last night. Problem was they didn't live here!

Termmy have you no shame? Your lucky that all you received were frosty looks last night.

Nothing was voted on or approved by the board last night.

The $950,000 is an annual figure. The discussion was based on 2 years or $1.9 million. That still leaves a gap of $600,000 but that was announced and expected before the levy even went to the ballot. Hope that helps answer some of your questions.

So correct me if I'm wrong the tax bill I will receive in January is for the tax year 2010, not 2011? Along with being told we don't have a problem until 2012?

It's nice to be able to tell people their both right. 1:37, 6:30 yes your both right.
I believe the boards offer to pay for the recount was a nice gesture but I don't believe they will find 1 vote let alone 29.
That $600.00 dollars could have been better spent, but what do I know.
11:14 What shame should I carry? I don't believe the people in town can add another $134.00 average to their tax bill sorry.
Leaving a 1% pay raise on the table won't solve the problem either.
The amounts of some of the wages I heard last night makes me believe it's time some of you started to exist in the real world. What kind of benefits can a school bus driver be receiving at over $10.00 an hour?
All paralegals will be let go except the ESL ones, did I catch that right we sorta mumbled over that. Isn't that discrimination?
The problem why the levy failed was quite simple. Many of the students in your system are here with parents who are illegal and can't vote, you lose a large voting block if they can't vote.
Maybe the best thing that could happen is that the state take over the schools. Maybe they can right this ship?

Its easy to understand that the only input the school board, administrators, and employees want from the public is MONEY you can otherwise keep your thoughts to yourselves.

Keeping the Spanish aides isnt discrimination. Any one can bump them if they are able to do their job. That translates into - speaking Spanish/Mexican fluently.
I said it that way because even one who is fulent in "Spanish" doesn't speak the same as these kids that come from Mexico - it's different. It's not a surprise they will receive preferential treatment with as many "non-English" speaking kids the school has. Why is that? Why does my kid need to know his ABC's and 123's but these kids don't and dont even speak our language. Speaking of priority-why do the Spanish aides get to surpervise the inside of the building while the regular aides have to be outside in the heat, rain, cold, and snow? Now thats what I call discrimination.

If keeping the ESL paraprofessionals would be considered discrimination, does anyone know a decent attorney that could help the non-ESL's? They really need the help as it's always about the ESL and they know it. They tell the others how secure their jobs are because no one else can speak the language of the hispanics.

The power point from Monday is on the PCLS site. Do I understand this to say they will not eleminate busing? This is wrong. High students are able to walk as are the middle school students. Was the middle school busing cut even proposed? Kids can get all over town to go to their friends they can walk to school. Their mind-set on pay to play is hog wash. It's not up to me to provide extra curriculars. Education should be the priority not sports.

After reading the minutes of the last board meeting I have questions to ponder. I know if I were to ask these at a meeting I would just have smoke blown you-know-where.
Why are there out of state trips? Students pay for these but what about the staff that chaperone? They are usually advisors and are paid for their time to co-ordinate these trips and then accompany students on the trip.
Which brings me back to the pay to play question. If parents cant afford pay to play, how are they affording thses trips. With so many students below poverty, how can any of them afford it???
Was the salary correction for Ms Ward for more or less money?
Why are people being paid to help at events? Someone made $600.00 along with all the others. Where are the parents who cant afford the pay to play. They should be volunteering at the gates to free up money for education.
Why have a play, concert, class advisors. All of these should be suspended until the budget is repaired. All this is fluff-stuff and should STOP. I have always supported the school system but I am very disappointed in what is being done now. Get back to basics.

3 parapros were cut Tuesday (day before Thanksgiving break and day after the board meeting at which "nothing was decided") They were the lowest ranking in senority at the elem. buildings.

Happy Holidays, let the bumping games begin!

HAS THE SCHOOL BOARD thought of asking the OHIO LOTTERY for help. the home-owner's tax levy process was decided to be unlawful 10 year's ago [ask your state rep's.] THEY ARE MORE FAIR AND EQUAL funding for SCHOOL'S. HADA NUFF...

I'm with 7:52, and I'll add my own take to it. Yes, making the homeowners pay for the schools like Ohio does is wrong. They've had ten years to figure out how to get this monkey off the homeowners' backs. Add on top of that the fact that Painesville decided to do all the schools in the district at the same time, and I'm just done voting yes. I don't know what to tell them except they had better figure out what they are going to do about it. And Painesville knew that the amount of taxes that homeowners are paying for schools was an unresolved problem already, but that didn't stop them from doing what they did. We should have done one school at a time. I'm just done voting yes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when the BOE pitched the new schools it was to save money? What went wrong aside the fact they are cutting staff from the bottom up to save money. That's not how it was presented just a few short years ago. I feel I was lied to as a taxpayer.

Wondering Why?
Since the board isnt stopping busing for the high school or middle school and surely not the elementary (ever watch a bus stop at Kensington Apts and drop off at Chestnut, that doesn't fall into the states minimum requirement, meaning those kids SHOULD walk).
1. How do those laid off or future laid off employees feel when the busing could be cut instead of some of them?
2. Since the union president is a bus driver (assistant president too) were the non-bus employees thrown under the bus?
3. Gifted kids parents, do they feel the program would be kept if busing were stopped?
This is suppose to be the business of Education---"for the children".
Doesn't look that way from what Im seeing. There are many unhappy taxpayers seeing it too and feel no way will another levy be approved unless the proper cuts be made.

As unhappy as I am with the schools, busing is not a thing I would cut. Get them to school as safely as possible.

$27.50 per hr. to drive a school bus? Give me a break. The school system has no business in the transportation business. Yes and all the smart people that voted for Hal that don't drive a bus? Get ready to be runover.
Why would you bus a child from Kensington Apt. to Chestnut School?
To provide a bus driver with a job?

At November 27, 2010 at 6:40 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought that there wasn't any busing for the high school. I had to drive my kids there. Did they start busing in recent years? I'm confused.

At November 28, 2010 at 5:52 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

If it's true or not I can only imagine. The reason I was told that they bus the high school kids was that to many were skipping school because they had to walk? So for the schools to get state funding money they made it more "convenient" for students to attend school. Do I know this as a fact? No. The reason I believe it is ask when they take attendence at Harvey? What time is homeroom? Then ask why.

At November 28, 2010 at 3:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's what the problem is. If the district is in such bad shape WHY is their responsibility to be sure the kids get to school? IT IS THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY. Make parents responsible and lesson the lay-off burden within the buildins so the teachers can teach.
As a taxpayer I take exception to the fact it's my dollars responsible for getting them to school, my money should go to the education process not busing.
