"IF YOU GOT THE MONEY" merle haggard

All this money that just seems to fall out of the sky? "Race to the Top" $637,000, Emergency funding $975,000 going to our schools and the year isn't over. How all this funding should affect the school's budget should be explained at a board meeting. I really would just want accountability on where and how all this money will be spent . Along with knowing that before election day.
To say I am disappointed in the administration on how they have handled this "Replacement" levy so far is an understatement.
I would expect them to go all out beating the drums on the need for passage on this levy. Not a whisper?
Maybe we should look at this in a different way. How much money does the school district want this levy to raise every year?
That's the main purpose of a levy to generate X amount of dollars. I Will promise to call the school treasurer Tuesday and find that information out.
1) What amount did the old 6 mil levy generate.
20 What amount will the "Replacement" 6 mil levy generate.
The community seems focused on the school issues presently. It's either by the state scores or the money issues.
To be truthful a poster on "I'll be watching You" hit it on the head. To solve the school issues it must fall on its main "customers" The students and their parents
More parents need to take a role in what's going on. PCS is not meant to be a "Glorified Baby-Sitting Service".

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

FYI

I had a short conversation with the school administrator Mr. Taylor who is the Treasurer. I asked him what were the figures between the existing 6 mil levy along with the "Replacement" levy

Presently the 6mil levy we have today generates app. $329,000.00 yearly for the system.

If the "Replacement" levy passes in November that levy will generate app. $1,282,000.00

Now if it passes the old levy ends so the true cost to the citizens of Painesville;

$1,282,000.00
-329,000.00
$ 953,000.00 increase in revenue to the district, and added to the tax rolls
starting next year.

Again Mr. Taylor was very helpful and open with my questions.
You and yours have to judge this levy for yourself.

I'd also be interested in knowing what services/jobs they plan to cut if they don't get the levy money? Don't tell me they haven't considered a levy failure and have a plan just in case.

Sorry Term,You do not reward failure with money, what will they tell us the scores will go further in the dumper? Only 65% will graduate?
What cuts or as you put it sacrifices has anyone in the educational community made. teachers, bus Drivers, principals, custodians Along with the administration?. I do not understand the logic that the rest of the country takes a hit but government doesn't.
Tell Dr. Hanlon to take Rt.20 home to Mentor? He should read the sign in front of Clyde Hadden Elementary. When you put that message infront of your schools message boards you can ask for more cash.

Where did they find the money for the new football field after they layoff teachers aides? I know, it came from a different fund.
LEC didn't pay for the whole thing either.

Anybody hear about a dispute played out at Elm St. school between a teacher and Dr. Hanlon played ouit in front of the children in the cafeteria?
I know it happened but why were parents not informed what the children witnessed? Please if anyone knows the facts let us know.

Wasn't sure where to post this. I have been waiting to see this issue come out. Has anyone else heard about the $700,000 missing from LCCDC, which is now called Western Reserver Community Development? A letter was sent to current homeowners explaining this. Why are we not hearing about an investigation into this? The letter mentioned names and misappropriated funds. Specifically $700,000 to date.

With the number of dropouts and the low graduation rates, we have far to many "Stupid is as stupid does" now.

To the person who comment was concerning LCDC I will look into it. Your right they have changed their name.
Concerning the rumor 1:52 brought up.
Yes something did happen at Elm St. near the end of the school year, and that issue should be addressed by the administration to the parents of the children that watch this unfold. As of now they are borrowing the large broom from city hall.

Until the administration takes a pay cut and/or Dr Hanlon steps down I will never vote for a levy for this school system. This administration does not have the best interest of students or the city in their decisions.
Dr Hanlon really needs to learn to have meaningful dialogue with parents, this one very important task he has failed miserably.

I find it interesting you can cut aids and other jobs directly impacting students and yet sit in the castle with no impact on your job or family....... amazing! Take a pay cut , step down, go teach a class or better yet do an aids job once a week.

Elm St. I would best let the administration take a shot at that. No Prince as far as I know.
Its their building, their employees, their students along with their resposibility to inform the public, call and ask?

These numbers you gave us. Are you telling us the same 6 mill levy is four times as large?

its a lot more than a replacement.

The "incident" at Elm St. is sad because for a lot of children school just might be their only normal place, probably theres a chance thing are going on a home that are far worse than this, but school should be a safe santuary with adults behaving that way.
Did anyone explain any of this to the children?

Yes,,,it replaces the old levy. The old levy amounts are determined by the rate at that time and the new rate will be determined by today's dollars. It's very confusing and VERY EXPENSIVE given today's economic climate. On the one hand, you don't want to hurt your schools (and your property values), but the damage is done in that area already. On the other hand you don't want to send a message that what has been done up to now is acceptable and reward poor performance. I don't see the point in throwing good money after bad....since the Painesville City schools are already abysmal in test scores and graduation rates and there has been NO IMPROVEMENT in recent years. I've carefully considered this from all angles and I just cannot, in good conscience, vote to give more money under the present lackluster and out-of-touch administration. Let the school board make some SUBSTANTIAL changes and then come back next year and ask again. And I cannot help but wonder what the golden dome is doing to help the schools...they may be separate governmental entities but they belong to the same community and are paid for by the same people. A healthy and viable school district is in the city's best interests as well.

I am a volunteer at our high school and when I read the negative things said about our schools, our administration, our students I can almost guarantee not one of those people posting on this site know the first thing about our schools' problems.

My experience is the biggest problem with our schools starts with the parents. A child is brought into this world like an empty sponge and quickly soaks up what goes on around them. We somehow expect that by the time they get to school that our school system should work miracles and change them. If a parent has no value in education then the children will not either.

If a parent allows the child to drop out there is nothing the school can do to force them back into school. If a parent will not enforce attendance all the school can do is enforce truancy laws.

Those of you who complain about Hanlon and the rest of the school system need to give up some of your time, go volunteer, see how hard they work, and how much they pull out their hair trying to figure out how to overcome all the negatives some of these kids bring in from home.

I would wager that most of you complaining wouldn't last a month working with some of these kids and you would be so frustrated you would be losing your anger at them.

Do any of you wonder why the Painesville Township Schools changed their name to Riverside Local Schools? Believe me it had nothing to do with confusion.
Painesville name had a negative meaning.

"Mr. Taylor was very helpful and open with my questions."

Nice of him to give you the time of day. My carefully-worded yet lengthy e-mail to the school board (which I also copied to Councilman Werner) did not get ANY responses.

Maybe I will find the old e-mail I sent and ask Mr. Taylor some difficult questions.

Until then...
No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

6:06 Couldn't agree with you more.
Now does Dr. Hanlon handle these student's and their parent's?
You have to wonder sometimes who's running the asylum?
Sometimes you can't be nice.

Adam, Try again I'd love to know the questions along with the answers you get.
If the email you sent to Hal can't get him re-elected don't expect an answer.

I hate Yahoo e-mail! I cannot find the copy of what I sent to them. I'll have to spend some time going through the thousands of 'sent' messages.

Pretty funny, but very true, what you say about Hal not responding to anything that won't get him re-elected.

Send Andy Flock down to my neck of the woods...please.

Wonder if she ever apoligized to the students that had to listen to her Rant? Teach by example?
