"YOUR WILDEST DREAMS" moody blues
Went to the school board meeting last Monday to see if there would be any mention of the levy, along with the chance to meet the new board member. Mr. Powers did not attend his first meeting. I am sure their is a very good reason but none was given. Mr. Thompson also wasn't present but he is at home recuperating from hip surgery.
At the beginning of the last school year I believe Mr. Bull head of curriculum set a 7% goal of overall grade along test improvement. He had the teachers along with the administration on board. At the time part of me thought 7% whey not try 5% and another side telling me that 10% should have been the minimum goal. Well we failed to go up very much at all even dropping in some areas. Mr. Bull seemed very perplexed along with even going back and looking for a pattern.
During the comment time I mentioned there was absolutely nothing wrong with Mr. Bulls plan and the teachers also must have carried out their end of the program.
The students along with their parents lacked the desire to make this goal. Most students look at school as a social event along the lines of "Saved by the Bell." most parents view the system as nothing more then a glorified babysitting service.
Someone somehow must get through to these students that a life on public assistance or a non-living wage is not the answer.
Mr. Bull don't pull the plug yet, and to some in the administration and board please don't get the idea that throwing more money at the situation is the answer.
Just a thought but could students look at our 50% policy as another way of telling them, we don't think you can do the work on your own.
Where in life experiences will they ever run into this 50% policy again?
just a thought their are only seven school districts in Notheast Ohio lower then us. That includes Cleveland, East Cleveland and Akron.
People in Painesville can complain about property values, rental property, zoning along with putting a flower pot in front of every building in town.
Painesville will never improve without it having a high ranking school system. Painesville City ever gets into the top three in school systems in Lake County people will flock to buy in Paine Falls.

The whole bunch know whats wrong.
Now if you think for one minute they will ask more from their "customers" as well as the people who made them.
There's a levy and anyone who does not have an interest in PCS will be voting "NO" so who will they scare, and threaten?
AS long as Hanlon sits at the head of the table I will not lift a finger or add a penny.
Sorry people you can't have Harvey High run by a sweet young lady that wants to be friends with the kids. You need a principal who the kids respect and not show up in his sights to often.
This is another "failed" experiment by the administration. Got to wonder if the present principal wasn't married to the distric treasurer if we would even be having this conversation? Will Dr. Hanlon be moving to Painesville soon?
Levy? what levy.
Do these educators think for one minute I am going to raise my taxes over $120 for a failed system. It least if theres no money they could blame it on the lack of money.
Council was last night. What? No comments or posts?
Someone asleep at the switch?
Am I the only one appaled with Mr. Flock allowing that woman to continue?
Come on people-lets get some chatter.
To 3:27,
Thinking like that is exactly why we get no where with changing what is happening. Everyone wants to point to a scapegoat instead of pointing to the real problem "parents". I have volunteered in our schools for many years and with few exceptions you can divide the good students and bad students with one common denominator "do the parents get involved and value their childrens' education".
Until most of us are ready to point our fingers at other parents and hold them responsible for their children our educational system will not change.
To 8:22.....I can't speak for everyone else but I was not appalled (check your spelling) that Mr Flock let a citizen finish her statement. It's intimidating enough for most people to speak publicly...let alone have a measley three minutes to talk. Mr Hada looked a little foolish interrupting her the way he did...he might have told her that although she was over the time limit they would be happy to hear her out. Please don't insult me with procedural issues...this is a small town and the citizens deserve to be heard and put things on the public record. And Ms. Rita tongue-lashing that citizen and all but calling her a liar wasn't called for either. She was complaining about a rude (and devious) city employee and was treated rudely by two more employees. The only good out of that whole incident was Rita informing residents that they have some recourse in situations like that.....very important information for the majority of folks that don't have any idea that there are official channels they can explore. Thank you Flock, for having some common courtesy.
To 3:27 and 6:46....I agree with you both but 2:33 has some valid points too. Our local schools have paid lip-service to improving things and gutted their intentions at the same time with the absolutely insane 50% rule. This undermines what little authority teachers have left and sends a strong message that failure (or little effort or whatever else you want to describe it as) IS an option because you will always be given another chance. Sure doesn't apply in the real world...not even flipping burgers or washing dishes somewhere. Kids don't think or reason like adults, we've had that jammed down our throats from all kinds of scientists for years now. And if anyone reading this is a parent, then you already know. Kids are like water, they take the path of least resistance and try to wear you down until they get their own (misguided) way. I don't have any easy answers on how to motivate parents that don't care or don't really know just how important a good education is. I do know that throwing more money at the problem is not a viable solution.
To 7:42 AM::
What outrages me is, not one council person said anything after the lady spoke. Other then Mr.Hada complaining about the time limit and Rita calling her a liar.
"Crickets."
When things are going to court you are better off keeping your opnions to yourself. A. Flock told her to continue ,and take her time. He also thanked her at the end of the meeting for coming forward with this. Believe it, it took alot of guts for her to get up and say what she did. She isn't the first person treated shabby by this person.
I could never figure out why zoning board will let one homeowner have a shed and another one a garage?
Very rarily do you get a responce from the front table. Why? If they don't answer you it must not be that important or really far fetched? I mentioned that the city manager quoted me a figure of $4,700 that grew to $89,000 and no one seemed to concerned. Did they already know or could care less?
Unrelated to the school issue, but TERM, did you see the headline on the Newsless Herald this morning?
Millstone Condos, Bob Gibbs, lawyers, etc...
As one of the commenters on the NH website stated, and I am also wondering: "I would like to know what Gibbs has on the City of Painesville that they let him get away with so much."
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the article and hope this summer is treating you well.
Adam, Lets just say some things are not always as they look.
Trust me there is no love lost between the two.[City &Gibbs]
I promise you I will follow this story. The Bear, Rabbits, and Queen.
Maybe they just could care less about you and your rants.
You have even turned on friends. Please explain your problem, besides not knowing what your talking about.
Who will you throw under the bus next? cm,cp,hw, Dr.H
To 7:00...who's ranting now? And if they (and you) could care less then why are you bothering to even post here? Also if you and Term were friends at one time and are not now then I suggest you look in the mirror...it is usually a two-way street not the one-sided affair you are trying to portray here. Please get over yourself...its annoying.
Just heard an interesting rumor, maybe someone out there knows the answer .Where is Painesville Aerial Fire Truck? I'm getting conflicting reports.
Please tell me we don't need a new one.
The aerial fire truck is O.S.warbi waiting for the powers to budget the money to repair or replace it.
In the meantime try to stay on the second floor or lower. The old resue vehicle is now painted in black primer sitting in back of the fire station. Why? What you call the "fire bus" is now being housed at a satation in Painesville Twp.
After seeing how pooely we do in testing . People should understand why no one wants their child in the city schools. A heisley Park resident mentioned to me they would have never thought to buy there if they were in the city school system. Great job to whoever's in charge of lowering my property value. Dr. Hanlon? The board?
