"FIXING A HOLE" beatles stg. pepper
Recently, a little over two months ago, during a winter storm, a water line broke on Miller Ct. The city responded quickly and had to dig two holes; one in the street and one on the grass area of the court. Soon the water department had the line fixed, water service restored to the homes and filled the holes with dirt and snow.
Time passed. Snow melted. Children came out and started to play in the spring-like weather. I think you have an idea what happened next, an eleven year old girl ran across the court and fell waist-deep into the muddy hole. Screams from her and her friends summoned neighbors who pulled her from the hole. I can only imagine what might have happened if she was alone and her cries went unheard.
I have noticed the city departments do a great job to repair a problem but are weak on follow-up I have noticed barrels, equipment, holes, and landscaping left far too long after a job. With all the "field supervisors" the city has, a follow up should be made after a work order has been issued. We avoided something bad happening this time...lets hope there are no repeats.

My story doesn't compare to that one, but the city was out here to redo our street over a decade ago. We have no sidewalks, but before they came to "fix" things, we had a nice little walking berm with paving stones. It was not only a safer place to walk than the street, but it was a buffer to the street. One of the reasons this was nice was because it kept the edge of the grass from being wrecked by salt, heat from the pavement and cars parking on the street. It was a nice, easy little setup.
Well, they never would come and fix it, so it is a total wreck on my street now. I personally gave up trying to replant and replant and replant grass there a couple of years ago and decided the only thing to do is to let weeds grow there. It's the only thing that will. My street is Elm Street. The same holds true for all the areas of North State that they did work on. Never did fix it right, and it looks like crap.
Needless to say, I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion on the city not finishing up the work it starts. I am reminded of it everytime I look at my street. Used to be a nice little setup, as I said, before they came and wrecked it and then refused over and over again to fix it back up. Now instead of looking neat and trim on the sides of the street, it looks like a sloppy mess and really detracts from the neighborhood.
When Gary P. was here we had a hole or whatever you wanted to call it right in front of our house. It was almost 6 ft. by 18 ft. and about 8 to 10 inches deep. Of course the street drained right to this hole. We called almost every week to have them fix this. Kept getting the run around. They told us they couldn't fix it until it dried up. Well it never did because every time it rained it filled right back up. Finally, the wife started calling every day. Gary P. finally came to see it for himself and said "well this will never dry up". Duh. So they dumped stone (B19) that lasted about a month or so before it washed away with the heavy rains. And we got more mud. Still took them almost a year to fix. Talk about throwing good money down the lack of drainage.
Well I see the city is repairing a water line on Newell St. lets see if they cleanup after themselves this time? They left stuff there a year ago the last time they made a repair in that area.
