MONEY,MONEY,MONEY abba

Say whatever you wish about Painesville Council they love to spend money. It is a rare and awkward time when any one asks Why?
A good example were the purchase of two trucks Monday night $85,000 for a 2 ton dump truck? $128,000 to a tank truck to haul sludge. from the Mentor water intake plant to the Waste water plant on State St. [ They have a bid to take it to Avon, Ohio?] This over time will save the city almost a million dollars GREAT! Now please explain why my Utility Bills go up every year? Every department head makes a presentation of how this new, "This in That." will save big dollars over the years? Why do my Utility rates increase every year?
Leaving the meeting Monday a lady asked I wonder where they will find the money for all this? I told her to go home go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. Thats where all the money comes from. Yes I know it was proposed in the 2010 budget, but why don't they put street repaving front and center of that budget. The street's in this town have reached a critical point. Yet we without a blink of an eye show more concern for the first of $80,000 towards three million for a parking garage with about 25% occupancy.
The highlight of the meeting was when someone on council asked "How many miles on that truck?" The answer "A lot". Then they all vote yes to purchase a new one?

"A lot" Now theres one Hell of a great reason to spend $85,000.
Along with it being $35,000 over the estimate.
The reason our utility bills are high because the CM uses accounts
710.151.53920
720.721.53920
730.731.53920
To pay for all of the mistakess and Lawyers.

Nowhere in the council meeting was it mentioned by anyone how much sludge was hauled yearly, or how many trips would it take.
Don't you think a bobblehead would have asked?

Why is the parking garage even needed anymore? The LHS employees are not there to park in it. Do any other employees of Painesville even have a parking pass there? If it doesn't generate the revenue to warrant the repairs, just tear it down along with the hospital. It looks like an accident waiting to happen anyway. Who do you think will pay if it actually collapses and hurts someone? Painesville cannot afford that kind of lawsuit - OR anymore bad publicity.

The city manager stated that without the parking garage it would make it impossible to rent space at the New Market Mall.
The parking garage should be looked at as the legacy left to the residents of Painesville by a failed admininistration who knew best when they acccepted Urban Renewal money back in the 60"s.
Think positive residents, along with the only community in Lake County with a power, water, and sewage treatment plant. Well we're the only one with a parking garage.

After watching the council meeting I am left with a stange impression. The administration sorta looks at the council as a joke. [they are]
When a councilman asked,"How many miles on that truck/" THe answer "a lot" At that time the request should have been stopped. If thats the kind of answer the administration gives, coucil should have told them to find out and come back with a respectful answer when they have one. They seem to be laughing at council.
In there defense everytime they purchase something Hal Werner wants an extended warranty, why Hal they never take care or keep anything to long?

Ahh - point taken. I forgot about "Victoria Place." I guess they would need parking after all.

Main Street has plenty of parking for it's meager number of customers. As stated above, hospital is gone. So just what is the occupancy rate for New Market compared to the parking garage? How many county workers use it for parking? Without the hospital, the garage seems to be on the outside looking in. It is a long walk to courthouse or welfare offices, so who uses it now? Any new construction will be required to have adequate parking on site so this seems to be throwing good money after bad.

Victoria Place is a huge building and without the parking garage it would make it impossible to rent space in that building without parking. I may not agree with spending city money to revitalize the parking garage, only as a comment that decessions made over 40 years ago will have consequences in the future.
A good example is won't all five of the city schools built in the last couple of years all have to be replaced at the same time? In 50 years or so will the state kick in 75% of the replacement costs at that time?
The parking garage was a bad idea in 1965 and is still one now.
It will continue to be an Abbatross around Painesvilles neck for along time.

Victoria Place is a total disaster, when was the last time we actually Osborne try to do anything to get it filled. It has become nothing but a huge tax write off and Painesville should not be spending money on a parking garage so that we "hope" it is needed some day.

Victoria Place will not close as long as VD wants it for an office for HOLA.
