"I COME FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER"

As I reached my mailbox today my February issue of "Perspectives" had been delivered. This is the publication sent out to residents to inform them of some what's going on in the local schools.
It seems the "NEW" Harvey High recently held its opening dedication.
Many speakers spoke and the general theme was how proud and thankful to the community for the investment in all of the new schools.
Two thing struck me. One, Dr. Hanlon mentioned the hard work and dedication Mr.Beeler has put into making this project a success and how dedicated he was in making thing perfect. Mr. Beeler who is presently out on sick leave. I believe maybe he should have received the stipends for the construction project from the school board?
The second thing that grabbed my attention was that one of the student speakers gave his speech in Spanish? Why, was this approved by anyone? Were written translations made available? Why did this student feel this was important to do?
I have been told by some educator's that even the younger children are not allowed to speak English in the family home and it will only be accepted at school.
No matter what their heritage to be successful in this country you must be able to speak English.
Whats your thought on all of this?

You want my thoughts, TERM? Well, I am furious! My money is paying for these schools and I say everything should be in English! We are only aiding and abetting the takeover of our schools, our city and our country by enabling them to keep speaking spanish. I am so angry! Who's stupid idea was this?

I have never received a copy of "Perspectives". How do they decide what citizens receive this? I am a taxpayer. I have kids in the school. How do I get a "Perspective"? I am afraid to ask, but is there a spanish version? And I am paying for that, I'm sure. So why don't I even get a copy?

This is America. This is America. This is America. I see no reason for school speeches to be given in Spanish. Not too long ago, one of the leaders in our national government (can't remember which one now) spoke to the American people in Spanish. I was so ticked off, I wrote to President Obama to remind him that this is America. I don't like it and under the circumstances, I don't think that we should allow that to go on.

I have often wondered if the reason our city leaders have turned this into a sanctuary city for the Mexican illegals is to get more federal school money. Isn't that the way it works -- more kids, more money?

I have no idea why you don't receive a copy. Call the school administration and get put on the list. Some people have told me they got their over a week ago, maybe yours is in the mail?
6:34 The people that run things around here will tell you your just not "enlightened"
I believe money plays a big part in all of this though.

The next school board meeting is March 8 @ 7:00pm. GO and ask these questions or call the BOE office. It's all about money received - per student enrolled. There are teachers and aides employed as ELL (English Language Learners) in ALL the school buildings. Ask about their effectiveness or the methods they are using to teach English to the students. Spanish is not the only foreign language of the students attending Painesville schools. Get informed before you get mad. Painesville City needs every student they have to stay enrolled to get the funding dollars. The amount given in the state of Ohio has been reduced - this affects ALL of the school districts. The districts are all doing different things to accommodate the loss of revenue. Painesville City had to lay off some people in November. (It will happen again in March according to current "talk" - I hope that is only a rumor). P.S. I do not support ANY illegal activity in Lake County or in the rest of the U.S.

I really don't understand what the purpose of the student to do this. Did anyone O.K. it? were there written translations given so people could understand. I agree with Term I'd like an explaination.

I wasn't making a judgement on the students speech, just a reason.
As far as the HOLA newsletter being passed out in school I believe this is a bad idea. Having read the Hola paper I realize how slanted it is and only shows one side. Wonder if the school system would let me pass out a FAIR newsletter or one from the Grassroots group? Bet not.
On another subject my Mexican sources, [yes I have some] There has been a rash of robberies to hispanic patrons of a Hispanic eatery and store on N.State St. The people will not come forward to file a police report? Wonder why? but the city is aware of the problem. Yes we have problems everywhere.

I was at the new school dedication and remember the Harvey principal saying she requested the young man give the speech in Spanish. I hate to see anyone lose their job, but I wouldn't mind seeing her go in the next round of layoffs.

I do not recall what the reason was for the speech. I might actually have the English translated version at home and will look later.

4:34 nothing shocks me anymore. The bank ad? Dollar Bank probably doesn't want to lose any business to Key Bank. Key Bank is running a radio spot that tells people we want to cash your checks with a photo I.D. even a Matricular Card can be used for I.D. Isn't greed wonderful? If and when these banks get into trouble who will they come to?
I rethink that, what shocks me is how we have lost control over everything in this country.

5:09 says that Painesville needs every student to stay enrolled to get the funding dollars. This seems to verify what I have always thought, and that is that part of the reason Painesville needs the illegal population is to support the schools. I believe that they built those schools based on the illegal population, and now must keep them here. Scary, stupid tactics and thinking. I still do not think we can have the mindset that we need to save our schools, so we will sacrifice our country. I was at my son's house one day and we were talking about the illegals in Painesville and in this country. He told me to come look out the door if I wanted to see what was really going on in Painesville. An elementary bus dropped kids off at the corner, and I do not believe that there was one child there that was not hispanic. Seeing as how this is America, and not a hispanic country, that was pretty startling.

Term, you said you think the illegal problem in Painesville has all been about money. Can you expound on that?

Im sure Term can put it better than me...but IT IS all about money. Employers get workers that they can pay less and who won't make any waves demanding rights that legal citizens take for granted...This translates into increased profits for business owners. Illegals are still consumers so local businesses benefit because they are spending money on food, gas, housing, clothing etc. As has already been mentioned, schools gain from the additional enrollment. Politicians win because more heads counted in their district translates into more money they can demand from government and the size and influence of voting districts is based on population...not registered voters. And lets not forget the jails, Jobs and Family Services, courts etc. More people going through the system is job security. At the very least those budgets won't be cut in these hard economic times because of the perceived need for them..even though it's based partially on illegal people using these services. And don't forget the flow of dollars that goes back to their country -of-origin...there is even an official term for them..."remittances" ...which often keeps the family back home from starving. This is money that is NOT being spent here but just vanishes from our economy and tax base. Latinos are not, by any means, the first immigrant group to remit money back home...but in today's world we are talking on a huge scale.
We, as a country, have to make some hard choices here....if we really want the illegal immigration problem to be eliminated, then be prepared to pay a little more for some things and some Americans will have to step up and into the shoes of those workers that work at jobs that many Americans presently do not wish to do. Many of the local economies that are propped up artifically by illegal support will have a rough period of adjustment that all citizens will have to deal with. I for one, am more than ready to make what sacrifices will be needed to get things back on track. I'm too old to work at a nursery and live on a low income, but what-ever would be necessary is OK with me because I am part of the problem as well as part of the solution. This happened on our watch, and we let our elected officials and the business community get away with this up to now. There is a price to be paid for ignoring our duty as citizens. I'm willing to pay it though....I'm tired of 'press 1 for English'.

I don't believe we will have to be picking vegetables if we get rid of the illegal populations if we don't want to, although there ARE some Americans who want those jobs, too, as far as I know. There will need to be some kind of controlled workers program, where people get in line and can come here to work IN THE NURSURIES ONLY. They can give them two year passes, and after that they go home and the next person steps up. Americans always DID work in landscaping, factories, roofers, etc., jobs that these illegal people do now, and they will work those jobs again. When the "migrant workers", as they used to be called, come to work, someone should be watching over them to make sure they are not preyed upon here. That will be possible at that point because they will be here temporarily, but legally. Their work should not lead to citizenship. If they want to be citizens, then they can get in a separate line and wait their turn for that. Any children that are born to them while they are here should not be automatic American citizens. If their parents are not legal citizens, then they should not be either. I personally think that all immigration, except for what I just detailed (that's MY idea about the whole thing anyway), should be stopped for a while until all illegals are out, there is a comprehensive work program in place, and we can take careful stock of what we think our immigration policies and numbers should be.

When I was a kid, my grandparents were farmers in Michigan. There were always the "migrant workers" in the summer. After the harvests, they all went back home. That was scary enough, I will tell you. There was no way to keep track of who was here, and if there was a problem, who it was that caused that problem. We always had to be careful about how far away from the farm we were at those times, and one day, if it had not been for the fact that my aunt, who was only a few years older than us, knew where an oil rig was in the middle of the woods where we could hide in an underground compartment, I cannot tell you here what I think would have happened to us. But I digress. We must know who is here in our country at all times. If they are here legally, then we are more protected and so are they. They, too, could go to the police if there was a problem. I also think that they will be much less apt to cause problems if they are documented, and if they do, we should be able to find out who committed the crime. And, as I said, if they are the victims of a crime or bad treatment, then they can also seek out help. (Sorry for the length of this. Got a little carried away.)

And since you are able to back up your opinion with personal experience, it carries alot more weight with me. And you are right about some Americans being willing to do jobs that they don't have access to right now...Thanks for a thoughtful response.

Clergy Press for Immigration Reform
Thursday, February 18, 2010

Some Northeast Ohio religious leaders have joined a national push to put immigration reform on the front burner in Washington. ideastream®'s David C. Barnett reports

About a half-dozen local church officials left a message for Ohio Senator George Voinovich at his downtown Cleveland office, yesterday.
Father Robert Reidy of the westside La Sagrada Familia church carried a plastic grocery bag filled with postcards.

ROBERT REIDY: I’ve got about 280 here. The people who signed these are in favor of immigration reform and they’re calling for these Senators and Congressmen should do everything in their power to make this happen.

Piles of similar postcards are being delivered to all of Northeast Ohio’s Congressional delegation. It’s part of a nationwide ecumenical effort that backs legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to remain in this country and have a legal route to citizenship.

A recent federal report estimates that there are as many as 11 million undocumented immigrants across the U.S. --- about 95,000 in Ohio. Opponents of liberalized immigration say legalizing those already here is a disservice to the millions waiting in in line who’re following immigration rules. Rev. Tracey Lind of Cleveland’s Trinity Cathedral says she realizes that Congress is currently pre-occupied with a troubled economy and healthcare reform, but…

TRACEY LIND: ...I rank this as just important as economic issues and healthcare and education, because I think it’s part of the fabric of our nation. And it is a part of the economy, and I think we need to not to be the underground economy.

Attempts at immigration reform in 2006 and 2007 failed to gain traction in Congress, and the Obama administration isn’t expected to bring the issue up again until later this year.

Senator Voinovich needs to receive calls asking him to vote AGAINST any amnesty bill!

One of the things that is really scary when someone starts talking about legalizing all the illegals in this country, is that the numbers are so off. As I said before, two or three years ago, the Mexican government estimated that there were 20 million illegal Mexicans here. And that's just the Mexicans. Even if our government was correct about the 11 million being the total number, that is still enough people to take over our country in a few short years. The fact that the government is still lying about the numbers, is very frightening indeed. If there were 20 million illegal Mexicans back then, there must be millions more now. And if there are more than 20 million Mexicans, how many millions from other countries do we have here? If we wait to fight, it will be too late.

Did anyone see the Saturday News-Herald (2/20/10) article about the Matricular identification cards? The Grassroots Rally Team has fought long and hard to get the commissioners to reverse their decision to accept these cards. Now Troy IS finally reversing their decision to use these cards as identification. This is fantastic. He is saying, however, that they never did. I do not think that that is correct information. If you go on the Grassroot's Web site (www.Grassrootsrallyteam.org), you can read the original resolution, or whatever it was, saying that they were accepting them. At any rate, though, they are now saying that the Matricular I.D. card will not be accepted as legitimate identification in Lake County. This is a fantastic first step in the fight against the illegal Mexicans in our city, and the fact that our city has the designation of a sanctuary city. Thanks for all the hard work Rally Team.

Sorry I read the story, yet nowhere did I read where Commissioner Troy even mention it was a mistake to honor them.
I believe they just all hope everyone forgets and lets things cool down.
Troy must realize this could be very negative to his reelection.

At February 22, 2010 at 2:51 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Troy is back pedaling, saying it was just an honor, not an endorsement. Well, we have copies of the actual resolution, and the minutes where they say they presented the consulate with a Lake county flag in honor of them. We will not let this situation die down. This will be Troy's downfall for sure.

At February 22, 2010 at 2:51 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term, this is 12:19. Not sure exactly what you mean. In the article it quotes Troy as saying that at no point does this mean that the commissioners will accept this as a legitimate form of identification. I didn't say that he said it was a mistake to honor the Matricular cards in the first place. There was no such admittance. He said they never did accept the cards, as far as I can tell, which is incorrect information. The Grassroots Rally Team's Web site has proof to the contrary.

I agree that this reversal could have a lot to do with the upcoming election. It's not a small offense to be part of giving away your county to the illegals.

At February 22, 2010 at 6:12 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is 2:51 again. Here is some information that is a little more specific. If you go to the Grassroots Rally Team Web site (www.grassrootsrallyteam.org), you will find a link to the actual Resolution right on the home page. Just look to the right and click on the copy of a Matricular I.D. card you will see there. That will take you to the actual resolution that Troy, Aufuldish and Sines signed. The actual title of the resolution is "Resolution Endorsing Use of the Matricula Consulate for Identification Purposes."

When you look at what he (Troy) said in the Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 article in The News-Herald, you can see that he seems to be denying that he ever thought it was a legitimate form of I.D.

Considering the fact that so many citizens have been fighting these commissioners for years to get them to change their stance on accepting these cards, and they steadfastly held their ground until now, I think what he is saying now is pretty misleading, to say the least. It seems to me that they passed a resolution to accept them, and now is denying that they ever did. That's my take on it anyway.

At February 23, 2010 at 12:46 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is 6:12 again. I just now understand something about the commissioners and these matricular cards that I did not understand before. Will add this here in case other people are behind the curve on this, too.

What people are trying to get the commissioners to do is to actually formally retract the resolution they made on using the matricular cards. The resolution they created to accept the cards is "Resolution Endorsing Use of the Matricula Consulate for Identification Purposes." Clearly this does need to be officially recanted by way of another resolution. I hear that a member of the Rally Team consistently shows up at the commissioners meetings to ask for this but has not been successful.

This must have been what you meant before, Term. I didn't have enough information to get it. Got it now, I think. If these guys have any hopes of getting reelected, I suggest they make a new resolution -- and fast.

6:12 One of the things you might not know is the amount of big money the local nurserys pump into county races. Not just the commissioners either. The nursery business is fueled by illegal labor.

To 7:17. This is 6:12.
I just realized after reading your post that I have been using the wrong names for things. I had previously said that I thought the illegals could be brought in on temporary work passes (just a certain number of them every year) to work in the nurseries. I should have said farmer's fields, or something similiar, which, of course, is completely different from the nurseries, right? And, no, I did not realize that the nurseries were also fueled by illegal labor. I have thought that the illegals were working in a lot of the landscaping jobs, which Americans typically worked before we were run over by illegals, but I did not realize that the nurseries were otherwise large employers of the illegals. Doing what? I am not familiar with what actually goes on in a nursery.

The thought of big campaign money from nursery owners going to campaigns in the area never crossed my mind. That certainly could put a lot of pieces in the puzzle.

In the 1/25/10 issue of The News-Herald, there was an article about rampant corruption in northeastern Pennsylvania. The feds are investigating and trying to clean it up there. I have always wondered what they would find here. People have a lot of questions that need answers. We have many, many problems here.

Thanks for the information.

There is something else about nurseries I'm starting to find out. By law farming is exempt from the 40 hr. work week. No overtime in farming if you work over 40 hours, ie; time and a half. Guess what other business fall into "farming"? Nurseries for one and I'm checking into landscaping.
Now most big employeres in the area will tell you they don't hire illegals, which is true.
The landscapers that groom their properties might. They subcontract it out. also a few companies will hire temps from a temp agency, now do these temp agencys check the legality of their employees?
There are numerious ways to skirt the law 1099 income tax forms could be used also. We live in a very corrupt system people.
All these rules benefit people who hire illegals.
The question to ask are any of our county commissioners connected to these business? Just asking.
