"DEMOLITION LADIES"

No this is not a movie. Two very prominent ladies in our community have decided how to demolish Lake East Hospital. City Manager of Painesville along with the Lake Hospital CEO are going to use Ohio Issue 2 funds along with matching funds from the LHS. Clean Ohio Program [check it out on the web] will be asked for over 2 million dollars from their Brownfield Revitalization Program. [I'm assuming this is the only fund they could use.] Plus over 2 million dollars from Lake Hospital System. Bet your HMO didn't see this one coming. What a waste of Taxpayers money, along with Health Care Funds. If the County wants to pass off this problem to the city of Painesville we should not play a part in it. If Painesville cannot get the grant money will we have to pay our share out of the General Fund? Where else could the money come from?
I have e-mailed Clean Ohio Program to ask what were there criteria was to receive funding.

"CLARAIFICATION AND AN APOLOGY"

After a conversation with the city manager at Hal Werners meeting tonight, I realize the she has no intentions of using city funds for the demolition of Lake East. She has told the County and the Hospital she doesn't want to get saddled with a white elephant. She was trying to get the grant as a courtesy to the county and the hospital being the former owners they could not apply for the grant. I am sure the city will not be taken for a ride. Also the hospital match would not be 2 million but a 25% match.

For anyone who missed this announcement from our school system, something we as a community should be proud of.

Three Painesville City Local Schools teachers achieve National Board Certification

Painesville City Local Schools is celebrating the achievement of three of our teachers. We congratulate Maple Elementary School’s Kindergarten teacher Mary Jo Fuhrmann and First Grade teacher Silvija Resnis, and Elm Street Elementary School second grade teacher Emily Rogers. These educators have been awarded the prestigious National Board Certification. All three are now Early Childhood/Generalist certified. “This certification is a tremendous accomplishment and a symbol of commitment to excellence in teaching.” said Dr. Michael P. Hanlon Jr., Painesville City Local Schools’ Superintendent. “We should all celebrate their achievements and applaud their dedication to their students and their profession.”

These teachers join a select list of Nationally Board Certified teachers employed by Painesville City Local Schools. The District now has eight teachers that have achieved this distinguished recognition. These newly certified teachers are three of only four in Lake County and 175 teachers in the state to receive this certification in 2008.

“It has been proven that teachers who obtain National Board Certification are among the most effective teachers in our nation’s classrooms,” states School Board President, Andy Thompson. “We are very proud of Mrs. Fuhrmann, Ms. Resnis and Mrs. Rogers for their commitment to a process that makes them even more effective at helping children and improving education.”

National Board Certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession. A voluntary process established in 1987 by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that measures what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. The process typically takes more than a year to complete and requires that teachers demonstrate how their activities, both inside and outside of the classroom, improve student achievement. Through the assessment process, teachers document their subject matter knowledge, provide evidence that they know how to teach their subjects to students and demonstrate their ability to manage and measure student learning. This certification does not replace state licensing. It, in fact, strengthens instruction in the classroom, builds collaboration among teachers, teaches reflective and analytical skills to teachers and improves teaching and learning.

The NBPTS is an independent, non-profit organization governed by a 63-member Board of Directors, made up of classroom teachers and other educational professionals. Their mission is to establish rigorous standards for what teachers should know and be able to do. The goal of the organization is to improve student learning by strengthening teaching and instruction.

"Clarification and Apology"
O.K. I see the clarification but where is the "I'm Sorry"
Where is the I'm sorry for misleading everyone into believing that the city intended on wasting our tax money?

The apology was to the city manager for misreading her actions on trying to get funding for the demolition of Lake East. The county and/or LHS could not ask the Clean Ohio Program for the funds. She has no intentions of using Painesville funds or say buying the hospital for a dollar.
What I did in the post was ask questions. if this doesn't panout what next? I just asked the question I never stated Painesville would fund this project. Sorry if you were mislead.

TERM, Bee careful of the ground you are breaking here, no pun intended. It seems that you are looking into things and then posting, which was the premise of what I preached when I first started coming here. Yes, you did ask questions, but to what? It seems that maybe getting the info., waiting, and then looking into it would have save the "apology" in the first place.

Make no bones about it, I am commending you here even if it feels like a slight. I am glad that you were able to get a "positive" result to you quandary. I have spoken to someone about the long term plans for that area and am not ready to post it as of yet. I have gotten a preliminary statement and wanted to follow up on it. After I get a more definitive answer you can bet I will post something about it. Very interesting stuff and exciting for the City if it works out.

JT. Your probably right, all I could see was the City of Painesville getting stuck with another white elephant like the old hotel on Main St. At a meetimg where Commissioner Sines stated he couldn't sign the hospital over to the city fast enough, to get the county "out from under it." I worry we can't afford a mistake like that. At he Stakeholders meeting it seemed City Architecture and alot of people at those meetings, in a big rush to tear it down.

Thanks J.T. for posting a see/wait/investigate/find all of the answers/parameters before one jumps to conclusions and posts.Best to have every duck in a row (with absolute justification) before one even asks a question. Guaranteed, if a person has not researched any subject matter to the "T", they will be shot-down by any entity that they are questioning or attacking.
This was a great teaching by my Dad, the Metalurgical Engineer, of which I have followed for all of my years.

Why would all councilpeople vote yes on clean Ohio program without questioning the city manager of why are we doing this? term woundn't have to ask these questions if certain people on council did.

Traffic reports tell the story. Who will be held reponsible for moving emergency care to the middle of nowhere?

The article in the Tribune never mentioned the city of Painesville doing this as a favor to the hospital and county? If there was ONE brain cell in this city we would stay out of this!

What ever happened with the people in Millstone? Did they finally get their money? Must not have been good news in court or something would have been in the paper. Who screwed this up?

Robert Gibbs, was the one person who did not want to take the money, so he is tieing it up in court, the rest of the people will not get one dime until it is done in court.

Term.,
Will you post this one.
