"TEARS IN HEAVEN" eric clapton

Sadly More Tears!  Our Thoughts and Prayer's go out to the families of the 50 murdered and 53 injured in the worst mass shooting in America's history. We all grieve with Orlando

Beyond the door
there's peace I'm sure.

But not here in the city of Pain. !!!

Just when I congratulate the city for the condition of our two cemeteries someone under the 'Golden Dome' throws a monkey wrench into the mess!

It appears since the city received bad press over the motorcycle headstone as well as  the alleged lawsuit over pain and suffering from relative's of the South Madison resident buried there. The fine people who make decisions for us down at City Hall have decided to clamp down on cemetery rules after what 20 years?

The biggest item is that no artificial decorations are allowed at the cemeteries between March and November? My best guess is that being artificial they may easily blow away into other's properties?
Myself I left a solar light next to the headstone of my father. Within three days it was removed? I placed another on and you guessed it the same result, gone. Myself I also accidently left a hand trowel next to the headstone also gone!

You have no idea how happy I was to find out that this wasn't personal? Some city employee didn't care to much for me was a thought I contemplated. I guess every week when the electric plant workers have nothing better to do, 4 or 5 of them walk the cemeteries and  they remove all "illegal" items?

Yes I am sure I will be told that Painesville cemeteries are following protocol of all cemetery rules in the state.

My question could you have informed us? Or was that to much trouble? Some people have been decorating the plots THEY bought for over 20 years. And now it's not allowed?

Was this a rule to make us somehow responsible for what happened out there?

Every once in awhile the city does something stupid... This is one of those times. They should have informed people of the changes, what to much trouble? That instead of workers at the cemeteries being verbally attacked with the only answer from them is " This came down from the top!"

From the top? Look our present city manager is not a novice at this, he must have figured he would receive blowback? Was this something else that came out of that executive session about the headstone situation? Council is the ultimate end of the road "The buck stops with them!" Is this their wishes? Do they even care about resident's feelings? To busy with bath tub races? I don't know but the city as well as the administration and council be held accountable. Two steps forward one step back!

Publish your rules let us know why the change and reasons. It's past time to hold those seven people on council  RESPONSIBLE!  If you don't what's left will disappear. Oh, and council  as far as the email I sent to all of you Tuesday. Thanks for not answering. One thing the administration always has done is answer my emails. Thank-You

To all of you Trump supporters, remember back in 1989 Trump  came out with a game called 'Trump the Game' at the time he held a news conference and told the press all proceeds of the game he receives will be sent to charities! Donald their still waiting. Seems I've heard this before?
Parker Bros. is as confused as many of you might now be.

I haven't been to the cemetery in a while, but I thought it was posted no artificial decorations summer to fall. This is the general rule of thumb for almost every cemetery I have been to. So if its been this way and it is posted, what is the problem? The workers are doing their job. If they weren't, that too would be posted all over here too. Cant win I guess.

5:42 You change the rules after over 20 years without even a heads-up to residents? Can't win just asking for a bit of an explanation and decency.
Worker's are doing their jobs? Yes they are. What about their bosses? Channel 12? Painesville Pride? No just upset people. Guess "Ain't got time for that!"

Term,
I understand your feelings and I generally agree with you.
After 20 years (assuming that is accurate) it would not be too hard to let people know that the "rules" are actually going to be enforced.
On a side note, what does "artificial decorations" really mean? I always assumed it meant artificial flowers but if they are removing a light I guess it means anything that doesn't grow in nature. Would placing a pile of stone qualify as not "artificial"?
If the electric workers are the people walking the cemetery and removing items then it really is time to get rid of the power plant once and for all. We don't need to be paying the wages of a qualified electric employee to do what a high school kid could do for 8 or 9 dollars per hour.
I am sure members of Council read you blogs so I ask them to step up and tell the people who elected them where this decision came from.

5:35 I have been to every council meeting since the headstone incident and not one word mentioned about cemetery rules? This all might have been avoided with some openness? Unfornatly asking council to 'step-up' might be a waste of time!

As a resident of another location I want to honor my father who fought in the Korean War. I don't have the time to run out to Painesville to water plants. I put a secure imitation decoration on his grave site that now has been removed twice? I couldn't figure what was going on until a friend suggested I look here. A warning, a memo I guess that would have been to much to ask from people after close to 8 years now it is forbidden. Sometimes I'm proud to say I grew-up in Painesville, but that was a different Painesville.

I attended a council meeting a few years back and remember a little old lady appealing to council to allow her to put artificial flowers on her husbands grave. Joe Hada was council President then. Somebody made a motion and it was approved. why do I remember? because I live across the street from the cemetery and the silk flowers, plastic flowers etc all blow over here. I was a bit upset council passed that rule at the time but as I have watched older people struggle to get to loved ones graves I see the point. there must be a away to go back and check. the old clerk of courts was at the council table .....

11;00 You know now that you brought it up I do remember that incident? I guess if someone just puts some artificial flowers down and they blow away. Some of these people take the time as well as the cost to make a grave site honorable. I remember the joy my Mom received after coming back from a trip and at dusk taking her out to Riverside and seeing that solar light lighting my Father's grave. As I have mentioned before each to their own. Some never even go back to a burial site and some make it a destination. Mom told me she likes it at Riverside! I remarked just don't like it to much for a while longer.

12:05 Thanks for the heads-up.

12:03 No time to even let the bodies get to room temperature? Look as I hear it the shooter was an American born in this country? What's Trump's immigration plan going to do about people like that? Yes I believe his was a terrorist attack as well as a hate crime against Gay's. Probably both. One thing all these killings have in common. They all mention a AR-15 being the weapon of choice.
If I thought Donald Trump had the answers I would probably understand supporting him. Myself he knows as little as the rest of us.

If one were to go to City of Painesville website, then to the cemetery information there is a two page document explaining the rules. Under Decorations: there are 5 different bullet-ed items, an explanation as to where decorations should be placed then states No items (decorations of any kind) are allowed between our scheduled cleanup months except the specific dates listed above. Spring Cleanup (March 1st to Memorial Day)
Fall Cleanup (October 1st to November 15th)
ON PAGE 2: The following items (but not limited to) are reference as artificial decorations: Crosses, non-live wreaths, vigil lights, solar lights, Styrofoam, statues, balloons, wind chimes, flags (non service) banners, glass of any kind, stuffed animals, etc.
If you look for yourself, you will see if you were in error to place such items at the cemetery during these times.
Are you upset at the workers and admin for following rules? Are you upset at the city for following through after all this time and not notifying you that they mean business now, after letting things slide for years?
Are you upset with yourself for not knowing and following these rules?

So as I am to understand all this. The city approved a headstone not originally approved with a skull and knives going threw it? And over this no artificial flowers, wreathes, lighting and so forth? Well in all honesty it sounds like a decision the city would make, This bunch is so incompetent!

Thank you President Obama for not using the term "radical Islamist "! Why, because this was all still under investigation when Mr Trump tweeted this statement. President Obama did state it was a terrorist attack. Can you imagine the backlash if President Obama has mis-spoken or it was found not to be true? Then Mr Trump would be yelling for his job again. Yes, Donald shoot from the hip, the entire world is watching. Yes, Mr Trump, not one word on the victims in Orlando, quite despicable and someone who should not be President because you really don't understand its not about you, it is about the people of America.

3:44 I guess my problem is changing past practice without notification? And in the end those people purchased those plots. So if someone can have the headstone of their choice a Cross or chimes and yes a solar lite should not require $30.00+ an hour employee's to remove. We all know this city has far more important things that need attention in this city. And I guess just maybe your rules stink?
Just maybe the way the resident's are treated over the cemeteries is pretty much how leadership care's about us? THEY screwed up with the headstone and now we will rule without any notice. Thinking like this is why this city is empty of businesses, young families who can move to a more welcoming community that people like yourself don't run.
5:07 Your words not mine. To the people that have contacted me over this issue, if you don't show up at a council meeting to let these people hear what you told me. It will only get worse!

5:20 Trump will be Trump. Trump plays to people's fears.

I guess the solution to this mass killing would have been to carpet bomb Fort Pierce? Friday? He didn't immigrate here he was born and raised here! Yes he was a Jihadist, and had no use for Homosexuals being on this earth? Where have I heard that before? Goggle Christian Pastor says Gays 'Worthy of Death at conference attended by 3 GOP candidates. Huckabee, Jindal and Cruz! It's time to quit letting others lead us in fear and time to be American's.
Either that, or change the slogan;
Home of the Free and Not So Brave!

sorry to go off topic here .... but during my out and about trips in town I'm still hearing comments on Dr. Shepards commencement speech. I did not hear it and can't find a record of it on the World Wide Web. If in fact Dr. Shepard did throw down his speech and say; "ain't got time for that!" I would like to say, as a tax paying resident who votes for school levies, I do have time for that and could he post his unread speech on the Painesville City School Website. Wondering if there really was a speech at all? For those students who do go out in to the world I would think Dr. Shepard has time to shed some light on their path into a brave new world. As someone who has his salary paid by residents of this school system I do believe he some responsibility to students, parents and resident who fund the public school systems.

I Hope You Dance (Lee Ann Womack

or was it

The Dance (Garth Brooks) ???

No surprise here we are in our present condition!

What condition is that you speak of? If I read correctly, the graduation rate has increased as promised by the administration. Ms. Miller, why vent here? Go to the board of ed and ask for a copy of the entire graduation, then start throwing stones.

10:30 Maybe she's venting about the F grade by the State of Ohio? Or why we are paying someone over $135,000 to make jokes? Congratulations on the graduation rate increase, let's see where these grad's are in a couple of years? What to hang your hat on! Weak!

I would bet that HHS seniors have better grammar, punctuation, and spelling than Term does.

Funny how he wants to return to the good old days. I want something better from HHS than Term's level of education.

Seems like some paid 6 figures and benefits could do his homework. And that "F" grade from the State review perhaps you should do your homework. Who would move here with school age children? My statement is more of a question than a vent. Wondering if other residents even care?

11:27 I can only hope you are correct? That 68' class was loaded and prepared for the future. Me not so much? But this is not about me. The world is in a different place than 50 years ago.
Plus I viewed the Harvey commencement today (1:00 pm) And yes his speech lasted less than 30 seconds? Not counting the video. I guess I expected a little more?

If you have been decorating a grave site with solar lights, etc. for many years with no issue, why would someone go to the city website this year to see if things have changed? If there were changes there should have been something posted at the cemetery, even if it was a notice to go to a certain website to see the new rules. Some kind of warning. This was unkind and stupid to do it this way.

Painesville isn't the only one, another local cemetery did the same thing. After 30 years of placing artificial decorations from Memorial day to Labor day. This year everything had been removed. I stopped at the town office where I was sent only to find a huge pile of all decorations from the entire cemetery thrown into a heap. Luckily all were retrieved but no answer as to why suddenly enforce what they hadn't been for so long.

At June 15, 2016 at 12:06 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

9:35 Let's just say Painesville had a bad month in May. News of the parking garage. TV stories of a puppy thrown off a six story building. Followed be a grieving family on TV over a headstone at a city cemetery. That's much for even Painesville.

Whats wrong with putting solar lights at a grave site? I too have put solar light after solar light on my mom's grave site since they are removed by the workers each time I put one there. I have retrieved many of the lights as there is a huge pile of decorations at the workers site by evergreen cemetery that were removed from the grave sites.
